Guest Anonymous
i have a 240z shell, thats immoblie but... i need to have the floorpans/subframe connectors/rollcage welded in, now there is a place close by my house that will weld it pretty cheap. my question is how can i get the shell to the welders shop? or how do i get this shell onto a trailer? the car is just a shell no suspension. any suggestions? im stumped. pparaska
I did it by bolting the suspension sub-assemblies back onto the car. Pretty easy actually, if you still have them. Other than that, how about using some handcart/dollies affixed to the bottom?
Owen
I have those car roller skate things, but when I don't have the tires on, I just sit floor jacks on 'em and use those under the car instead. I wouldn't recommend towing or anything though, these wheels are small. How about lifting both ends with 2 engine hoists? I wonder how much the body would flex... Tim240z
If it's truely just the shell, you and a buddy caould just pick it up and put it on the trailer. The shell is very light with everything removed. Tim
Guest Anonymous
tim thats a great idea but how do i get the car raised for the welder guys to weld in the floorpans and subframe connectors? could i just put it on jack stands while its on a trailer??? your ideas rock, im formulating a plan for this weekend. it will happen! oh yeah at the Z car club last night some guy had an LT1 in his 280zx(79) auto tranny, 3.54 open rear end, with cv shaft conversion. some huge 17x8 17x9 ROH wheels, fairlady gnose spoiler and a nasty fiberglass cowl hood, it looked terrible you guys have such better taste in cars. Guest sball
I always use a rotissery like one in the oven It's 2 good engine stands with leg extensions, and a bracket made up to bolt to either end of the chassis rails ends. all you have to do is hoist the car to the height with 2 block and tackles or a fork lift. This way I can get the car on to a tow truck on it's 8 heavy duty castors and have the shell completely restored to new condition in 3 different locations. It makes life sooooooooooooo easy. I think some tool companies make them for panel beaters ?
