Guest Anonymous
Well I'll let you know if this works out, but I need to do something about the wimpy blower in the Z before I take the car to Tempe coming up in a couple weeks and I decided I'd do a little hybriding... I went to the P and P this morning and found a 90's Ford Ranger and copped its blower motor. After a quick measure it looked real close. The diameter is about 1/16" bigger, but the blades are deeper by at least 5/16". The motor is also much larger and has a 'air cooling' duct to hook into the heater box to cool the blower motor. I think the plan of action is to use a 3/8" ply shim to take up the space and I may be golden. I know only gain a bit of blower cage, but I think with a more modern motor and hopefully more speed it'll blow enough to get my A/C where I want it, on my face and not I got to go moving my head around to find a cool draft. More when I get it done and I'll let you know if I wasted time, or improved it. Here's a photo or two: Pictured, Ford Left, Datsun Right Pictured, Datsun Left, Ford Right Confusing huh? Shot on the cutting board, probably one reason I'm being divorced... Regards, Lone
Owen
I'm really interested if you come up with anything for the wipers! BTW, the 88-91 CRX heater blower is supposed to be a pretty dang good replacement. Saw it here or on zcar.com. Owen
DavyZ
Lone, that looks like a fantastic find. I bet if you get it to fit, that motor will blow more than enough air thru the system to chill you out Way to pick one that will work!!! Great find, Man Davy
fl327
has anyone seen that heatercore/ac thingy that sell at vintage air? i like it but that probs want way too much for it, i like the idea of transplanting a similar size motor into the stock housing or using a different one if it fits right, mines been broke for a while so im gonna leave it alone for now and proceed with other things. pparaska
Aah. That looks familar. I did something very similar with a mid-80's Ford LTD blower motor. I got the idea from someone else who did it. Man, that think puts out 3 times the volume of air the Z fan did!
