Rod in NC
I'm in the process of routing my exhaust off of my sanderson headers...I bought the flowmaster header toobs (yes, correct spelling) and just wanted to see if my ground clearance is about like everybody else. At normal ride height my stock oil pan is 5.5" off the ground. Routing my 90 degree exhaust pipe from my header and under my stock mounted oil filter and inboard of the slave cylinder, the bottom of the exhaust pipe is only 4" above the ground. If I try and tuck my exhaust pipe up anymore, I will be too close to the oil filter. I was just curious if everybody else was sitting about that low. I've got the JTR kit, Tokiko shocks/springs. I like the look of ride height when viewed from afar, but I guess I will have to avoid any speedhumps in parking lots! -Rod
John Scott
Sounds like a legitimate question. Plenty of variables like tire/ wheel choice, other suspension mods. Your specs seem pretty close to what I have running for the last 7- 8 years, a 6 qt Kevco oil pan and 4" under the dual 2.5" exhaust. I have no problems with speed bumps or roll over curb in front of my drive. Never hit anything since I dumped the MSA lowering springs and switched to Ariz Z car springs/ 16 centerlines/ 205 50 front/ 225 50 rear. IMO, Exhaust is a better sacrifice than oil pan when it comes to clearance. With my earlier Procharged V6 really low sump, MSA springs I had less than 3".. couldn't clear a roadapple. Looked really cool but not good. Completely happy the way the V8 sits now.
lgoodson@pacbell.net
I have the lt1 and my oil pan sits about 3 1/2 inches off my garage floor which makes it the same distance as my 2 1/2 exhust, The exhaust is up as tight as possible with less than an inch clearance to the floor boards which was heating them up pretty good. So I took diamond plate aluminum and made some heat shields that I attached to the floor board between the exhaust pipes and the floor keeping a 1/2" space from the shield and the floor for ventilation and it seems to have done the trick. No more hot floor boards. The air space is very important, I also fashoned a deflector to isolate the clutch slave. So far every thing works good. MY car has been lowered a couple of inches I was told by the PO and judging by your measurements, I think that is about right. I have 2 2 1/2" pipes back to the diff where there is a 3" resenator after the Y pipe and then 3" single pipe out back to the Magnaflow. And it roars when you get on it. Rod in NC
Thanks for the feedback....I'm looking to do 2.25" through two glasspacks near the driveshaft, then through a couple j-pipes and L-pipes to come out just in front of both of the rear tires with a Pacesetter dual tip resonators. I want the look of side exhaust having the long muffler along the rocker panel. Larry, I will keep your heat shield in mind as I route the pipes under the floor pan. -Rod
