Delasangre4231
I just bought a 1984 300zx Turbo 5-Speed. It wont go into 3rd and 4th gear, the guy said that a dowel pin fell out or broke. He also said that I can just pull out the center console and shifter and I will have access to a top plate and be able to pop a new pin in without dropping the tranny. True? junglist
I don't know if that will solve your problem, but yes you can pull out the shifter easily. Its just 4 bolts on the shift plate to pull out the assembly. If your trans is indeed a T5 you can use any shifter or short shifter from the T5 '80-90's Mustangs. I have a Pro 5.0 shifter on my T5 out of an '83 ZX Turbo. - picture of T5 shifters. http://www.az-zbum.com/information.transmission.shtml - Z31 Transmission Info
Delasangre4231
Its not the shift lever itself, its all the linkages beneath it that it controls...
Trevor
Need to drop the transmission. You can't remove the top cover of a T5 through the shifter hole in the console and floor pan. It probably is just a roll pin betwen the rod and fork, but "while I'm at it" syndrome will kick in and you might as well rebuild (bearings, synchros, seals) the transmission while it is out of the car. batou
IE you will have to split the case, cant do it through the shifter hole.
