Negligence
I remember reading it on a site (and I DID TRY to search it here, prob used the wrong combination of words), but I cant find it any longer. What is the standard list of parts that I should replace after getting an imported motor (sr20) Spark Plugs, Belts, filters, Oil, Coolant....anything else? Is it common to have to replace injectors? If so, could I use high flow injectors?, can the car be tuned (Megasquirt) to just run them at a lower capacity? or will the car always run rich? Injectors are a bit expensive, and I plan on upgrading them, was wondering if I could go straight to the upgraded ones and run them at lower capacity while I still have the stock turbo on the car. Thanks Pete
Guest Rolling Parts
It's a crap shoot. Inspect the mystery engine when it arrives, do a compression check, and go from there. A lot of what to do depends on "why" it was available in the first place...
Negligence
Its actually coming from a highly recommended JDM motors distributor, JDM Engine Depot in NJ (like 45 min from me actually) my friend got a great sr20 their for a fantastic price, you can check out the motor and do a leak down compression test before you get it. I just know doing visual tests and a compression test wont always spot out everything that may need to be replaced

Guest Rolling Parts
I did a BBB search on that company and they get a C+. There are also a myriad of consumer complaints on several car forums. The "fantastic price" is because it's a junkyard engine. Imported engine? well, I'm sure it was imported at one time with a car as it's shipping container... Negligence
Ive found complaints about every good place though, everyone has horror stories and everyone complains, i know my one friend got a great sr20 from them and my coworkers and his friends have gotten numerous honda motors from them as well with zero issues, who knows
sticky280zx
Well pete at any rate, go with the bigger injectors, you can run them even if you dont need them something like a 440-550 on that motor wont hurt especially if your adding that standalone, you might even be able to get away with a SAFC although i wouldnt put alot of faith in it or tuning with it (hence me suggesting a full standalone instead of a piggyback). If you get on zilvia.net im sure you can get alot better answers as well as other sr20/240sx related sites, We have a company down here called "j-hot" and ive heard nothing but good from them but alot of bad from other "importers" that are within dallas as well. -Jeff
Guest Rolling Parts
i know my one friend got a great sr20 from them and my coworkers and his friends have gotten numerous honda motors from them as well with zero issues, who knows As long as you KNOW that it's not really a low mileage JDM imported engine and just a regular JY engine, that's fine. That being the case there is no way to even know what injectors are on it now. Have a look before doing anything!

silverarrow27
I've owned and swapped five s13s with sr20s. All parts I replaced was on all of them: thermostat Coolant hoses that runs into the firewall top and bottom radiator hose belts spark plugs Obviously you want to change engine/transmission oil Never had a problem. All had compression of around 155-156 psi on all 4 cylinders. I bought my sr swaps from reputable and no name shops, all are the same. I usually just have them do a leak down test before bringing it home and look for signs of fluid leaks. I usually bought the swaps that have been unwashed because you can see if they were previously leaking before or not. Also if you're not planning to upgrade the turbo anytime soon, take off the stock rubber intake and spin that turbo. I made the mistake of not checking the turbo on one of my engines one time, got home and the compressor would not budge. I had a spare t25 so no biggie. If injectors are bad, just buy some z32 injectors...they're also purple top 370cc injectors just like the s13 sr. If upgrading anyway, Deatschwerk injectors are very reasonably priced and comes with flow sheets.
