afbrian13
I know I've seen some of you on here that own Mustang's and Z's. what year stang do you drive? How does it compare to the feel of a Z? I know about the mechanical aspects, avaibability of upgrades and mods. what I'm wondering is the "driving experiance". Anyone with a Z knows what I mean. I was tossing around the idea of a v8, 5speed convertible, 90's vintage. Any opinions let me know. Thanks
Trevor
I have 2, and '02 convertible, V6 auto. ....and.... '66 coupe V8 4-speed. the '02 is a very comfortable commuter, but after 50 miles I start to feel the bigger bumps in the road.... and the 100% plastic interior rattles and squeaks, but I'm used to that. Ride quality is better than my 280Z, which at 20 years older and the same mileage you would expect, but he Z ( stock springs, stock, new struts, 70R215 tires ) still handles much more precisely than the Mustang did new. In 120,000 miles I have only had a few parts go out. Hard Parts ( '94-'04 are basically the same) are plentiful and cheap on eBay!! One front wheel hub $45. One Driver's door pull handle $29 EGR valve $45 3 sets of tires. The '66 rides like a coal wagon, but acceleration is in the realm of a scalded hound dog. She was my DD for 15 years and we both have the scars to prove it. Now its a toy to cruise by Dairy Queen on Friday evenings.....
ZR8ED
I had two. Well one was a Capri does that count? An 80 and an 81. A coupe and a hatch. The hatch was better in the snow than the coupe. Heavy steering, lots of rattles, never wanted to run in the rain. I would pull over, and shut the engine down, and let the heat dry off the motor again, and then keep driving. They were both dd's, and saw your typical Canadian winter, which the auto choke didn't like. My stock 280 that replaced them was older, and had more mileage, and would outhandle and outbrake, and was more reliable, though more expensive to fix. The 280 was a DD for one year, and saw one FULL winter. Still have that 280. see sig pic. I loved watching the 87-88's back when they were new, though they didn't handle much better than my old ones. Leon
I have an '83 GT, 4-speed. It is nowhere near as fun as the Z to drive. Sure, it's torquey but it really understeers in corners (the M+S tires don't help) unless you are generous with the throttle. It only has 90k miles, but I've had to replace a few components that failed. The handling feel is definitely floaty in the corners, definitely not as stiff as a stock Z is. I always have a blast cruising with the t-tops off on a sunny day though, and I can't complain because I got the car for free! (shameless ad: It's for sale )
waddiejohn
The ideal situation is combine the two and have a Hybrid Z.
AkumaNoZeta
I have a 90'. The fastest accelerating car I've been in so far (the car is slow, I'm just too big of a loser to get rides in a fast car) but I believe it has a 4.10 gear or something because it's the only 5.0 I've seen that can comfortably cruise 35mph in 5th gear. I love the engine and never had a problem with it, but I've gone through 2 T5s already. It does have excessive understeer. I deem the Mustang only fun in the straight line but I like to corner so that's why I'm focusing on the Z (I've only driven the Z for about 5 hours total before it stopped and I haven't figured out whats wrong with it yet.) Guest Rolling Parts
ANY Mustang before 1974 was CRAP for handling. I had a 1974 Mustang II with a 5 speed and 2.8L V6 (German Capri setup) and it was the first Mustang I ever drove that handled at all...
