CamH
Alright, here's what I'm trying to do: I have a shift knob meant for a newer Nissan (84+) that is a very specific style that I cannot get for older transmissions. The thread pattern is too big. My question is this: Will the shift rod from a newer transmission (say from a Z31) swap in to my 280ZX transmission, or would I be better off rethreading my current shift rod in the new pattern? Thanks!
MAG58
Which 280ZX transmission are you talking about? The T5 in the zx and the T5 in the Z31 have interchangeable shifters.
CamH
The one out of a naturally aspirated 280ZX, not a T5.

MAG58
There were some pretty big changes after the T5. I highly doubt you'll be able to swap them. Never done it before though so I'm not 100%. Best bet is to be sure and re-tread the beast.
Mike Mileski
You say that the thread pattern is "too big". Maybe you could get a little adapter bushing made with your thread on the outside and the new desired thread on the inside???
