BluDestiny
Has this ever happened to anyone. I know I haven't touched the suspension since I bought the car and I've owned it for about a year and a half. The 2 bolts that connest the strut tube housing to the front control arm sheared and snapped on my driver side. Upon further inspectfion they were grade 8.8 bolts, not sure if they were just regular do-it-center stuff. The bump steer spacer was installed. I've replaced them With grade 10.9 industrial strength stuff but I'm stll shaking when I drive over bumps. Luckily this happened about 5 min after i got off the free way, when I was heading down a main street. The fender is going to be scraped, but should be getting a new pair this weekend. johnc
Upon further inspectfion they were grade 8.8 bolts, not sure if they were just regular do-it-center stuff. The kits sold by MSA and others all use generic Chinese 8.8 bolts. As you can see, they are inadequate. When I install bumpsteer spacer kits on customer cars I toss the bolts and install known (Wurth, Fabory, etc.) 10.9 bolts. You're lucky the ears on the strut didn't snap off. I've see that happen. BluDestiny
Yeah it could have been worse, if the wheel had just popped out over a bump, The driver side would have nose dived. I can't really complain since only the fender and tire were ruined.
Dan Juday
Wow that is scary. I'm going out to the garage right now to check mine.
