JSM
I need some help! I'm trying to use Vista and Parental Control. What a pain. I've got the internet portion set to medium and it works great for keeping the porn down, however, I can't seem to let my user (son) use any other installed program (Maplestory) without wanting the admins password? I've tried disabling UAC via MSCONFIG which keeps the pop up from coming up but then the program runs, then crashes looking for the permission portion to continue. I can't give him the password as he will simply log into the admin portion and turn it off. Any simpler ideas other than having to bitch at him weekly to stay off the porn sites? My wife is unhappy having no parental controls and my son is unhappy with constantly having to ask me to put my password in. Is there a an option to disable the password function for running programs as a standard user?

cygnusx1
Not really clear on your situation but I have two possible chunks of info that might help. 1) Create a separate account in Vista for your son and make it a non-admin account. I don't think he will be able to bypass the "filters" in IE easily without admin rights. You can install his software for him as an admin but he wont be able to screw with critical stuff. He should be able to run his program with his own "limited" account. 2) ZoneLabs has software that can block "dirty" websites. It's contains a huge database of "dirty" sites and won't allow those addresses to open on the PC. It is password controlled and updates the database automatically. http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-computer-security-suite.htm
19762802+2
I have vista on my other laptop and I also had to help out my girlfriends mom with this there problem was that it would block almost all sites like facebook etc. What you have to do is choose the setting Custom and I think you can choose the setting medium, high all that. Anyways Once you go to Custom their should be some box that above it says Allowed programs or websites and you can type in that list and then those websites or programs won't get blocked. Hope you understood that I will go take a look on my other laptop to check it out to make sure I am right. Edit: Ok I looked on my other computer and under Window settings in the Parental Control's Window at the bottom of the list(this is on Vista Home Premium) There is a part that says "allow or block Specific Programs" click on this and you should be able to type in what programs you want to allow him to use. Also to the right of that where you select the setting Medium and etc. Below that there should be a selection that says "Program Limits" this should be off so it allows him to use programs. Hope I could help. Nathan
JSM
My goal is to allow a program to run without it asking for an admin Password for a standard user. I tried all the suggestions above previously to no avail. For the meantime, I ended up creating a second Admin account, giving him the password to it and allow him to type in the password himself to continue playing his game. I'm curious how long it will take him to figure out he has full access to the entire PC and wipe all the other accounts off himself.
