JoeinCA
Hey guys, i was brainstorming a cheap way to replace my broken power antenna... would hooking a spliced antenna wire to both posts of the rear defroster work? If anyone has tried anything like that, i would be interested in hearing about it... if not i think i will be trying it out tomorrow. later, Joe. JoeinCA
I meant to try it today, but i started working on carpeting the back hatch area. I'll make sure to try it tomorrow... Joe.
660Z
I tried it once..didn`t work as well as i thought it would but it worked ...thought a rear defroster was more important so i bought an antenna instead
TomoHawk
I Couple alternatives you might consider: "stick-on' window antenna: http://www.aerpro.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?pcode=AP259&make=&model= mini-antenna: look like a mobile antenna & sticks to the outside of the window. http://jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CATID=4959&BQ=jcw2
S30Z Bushido
i think i'm going to end up getting a 350z antenna. they look pretty cool IMO.
deMideon
Afraid the defroster idea won't work well. Antennas are tuned to specific frequency bands by their length. You can see this in the length of the window antennas on other cars. They are very short compared to the length of the lines in the defroster. JoeinCA
I see, I sorta tested it and the quality wasn't what i was hoping for (maybe if i have a good connection). I'll try to find a proper window antenna too though, because as demidion said, i think i remember reading about radio antennas being "tuned" to recieve the signals clearly... I was looking at my mother's civic and it appeared to me that they used the defroster for the antenna... but maybe i was missing something because... i dont enjoy looking at hondas for more than a couple minutes at a time for some reason. Thanks, Joe
JoeinCA
I found two things that resemble what i am looking for: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2402698552&category=6774 http://www.aerpro.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?pcode=AP170&make=&model= I may not even worry about an antenna, i have CDs and i despise commercials... Guest TAlchemist
i have ridden in both a lexus and mercedes that uses the front windshield as an antena. they embeded little dots around the edge that look like trim work but connect to the radio. looks really nice, wish the defroster would work. how about a signal booster or noise reducer for the defroster
denny411
I`ve got one that sticks to the inside of the glass. I`m not sure how well it will work, but I`ll post the results after I install it.
JoeinCA
Maybe running a tuned antenna wire underneath the metal trim that is inserted into the windshield gasket. i'll have to look into that, Joe.
