Hey Miles, your on the right track!! I am in the middle of doing a 305 Chevy into my 72 240Z using the JTR method. So far its been great. they covered everything I needed and answered my e-mail question right off. I have heard the MSA KIT is not as easy to use and is costly. I know of about 10 JTR conversions but no MSA ones.[sounds a little one sided ah].get in, sit down and hold on. icon_cool.gif

Hi, am in the middle of a 350 conversion in my 72 240. The motor and tranny is in and bolted up and was actually fairly easy and fits like a glove... the msa mounts are a little more but not only come with the conversion mounts but also come with new GM mounts that bolt to the side of the engine and a new rubber tranny mount. a plus) and really fit great!

davy,

I bought the MSA engine and tranny mounts before I found this site. After reading what everyone has said about the JTR mounts I thought I made a big mistake... But I am very happy to say that the engine and tranny fit very well, the mounts are strong, painted black enamel, and in the set back position. Engine went in right the first time, didn't have to pull it for adjustments. The tranny mount is a big U shape that fits in the tunnel. I am very please and would buy them again. For $197 you get the conversion mounts for a SBC and 700r4 and also included for the $197 is the stock GM engine mounts and the tranny rubber mount. It would be interesting to measure and see what setup (JTR or MSA) is lower and farther back.

One think I can say, the instructions are really poor that come with the MSA mounts. If anyone from MSA reads this... better get better instructions and the pics are really bad. But the mounts are great! I did buy the JTR book for 40 $ and is money well spent.

Now for the fun part, I bought the B$M mega shifter and installed it sunk down with a little cutting of the shifter hole and custom homemade mounts. UUgGhh not low enough, the shifter plate hits the neutral safety switch bracket! crap have to redo it. That's ok, when I'm done its going to be lower. The first time I sunk it down 1 1/2 inches. I'm going to try 2 1/2 if it will clear the driveshaft. Has anyone done this? Can you tell me how far you sank it in the shifter hole and how you made your brackets? I have a good idea what to do but added input is always good. It's going to be a bad ride, low, mean and black. hahhahhhahahha icon_biggrin.gif

Some of MSA's instructions do tend to be pretty bad. I think its because they're basically a distributor and the docs are written/copied by the original manufacturer. I bought they're A/C unit and the directions were ok but they referenced pictures on the page that were so badly photocopied that they were to dark to see. icon_mad.gif This was from a place called Superior Manf. that makes they're A/C kit. The kit is fine, instructions... Not superior at all... icon_smile.gif

72Zcar,

Good to hear the mounts are more than satisfactory in their design and fit. I hope you solve the shifter location soon so you ca get your car on the road!! If you can swing it, try posting some pics so we can see it! icon_smile.gif
