1983 280zx won't stay running

Recommended Posts

I've got a 1983 280zx that I picked up for a good deal in a "none-running state" Upon turning the key when I first got it i could tell it was the fuel pump because it wouldn't click. When i got it home I pumped all the old gas out of the tank for it had been sitting for a while, and got voltage to the fuel pump to get it to work, the fuel pump wasn't pushing much pressure, but after putting fresh gas in the car, i started the car and it ran for a few minutes. The tach stayed steady no vacuum leaks, or anything of the sort. I was just about to put it in reverse and it died, i haven't been able to get it to start for more than ten seconds since. In the process of trying to get it to start again, i have gone through a couple of coils, and I also have put a new fuel pump on, because my old one wasn't quite pushing. I'm about to go outside and check my injector's for pulse, and clean all my electric connections, but

have any of you had this specific issue, "if I haven't started the car in a while i can go out and turn the key and it will fire a few times then die"

then as soon as I try to turn the key again it won't even fire, but if i let it sit for a few minutes it will fire, but never quite start"

????????????????????????? I'm pulling my hair out in clumps

might have flooded it. Disconnect fuel pump. Try starting it while holding the gas pedal to the floor - keep the pedal to the metal and let it crank a good while. if it cranks and runs a few seconds a couple three times and then doesn't. Reconnect fuel pump and see if it starts and runs then.
