darkzebra
WTB: Stainless Steel DP for a 1982 ZX Turbo. Anywhere from 2 1/2" to 3"
jacob80
Good luck buying one. The only thing I can think of that you could buy in stainless steel is called a "scotty" downpipe, which are almost non-existant on the market. Your best bet would be to have a fab. shop make one for you. You may also want to check Motorsport (www.thezstore.com), they offer a fairly cheap downpipe. Good luck! Challenger
Good luck getting the MSA downpipe or Scotty's downpipe (same thing, MSA was selling his a long time ago) to fit on a ZX. The firewall is way to close to the back of the turbo on a ZX and you cant hardly do anything but a quick 90 coming out of the turbo. Best bet is to make your own in cheap metal and have a shop make it in SS, assuming you can weld some exhaust tubing together. You also might consider removing the stock wastegate, thatll give you an inch or so more room to make a smoother bend downward but youll still have sharp bends since even as you get the downpipe pointed towards the transmission tunnel the sides of the transmission gets in the way. ZX are a ***** when it comes to a downpipe, another reason to buy an s30! haha Edited August 7, 2010 by Challenger
darkzebra
Thanks!. MSA actually still has the DP for $100. Since i can't weld I guess I will have to get one custom made. But then as Derek said the turbo is so close to the firewall. Is there any turbo upgrade that will alter the position to allow better turns? Or any simple modification to the exhaust manifold? Challenger
Do you have ac? No easy way to modify the manifold. Now if you made a custom manifold you could cut off the pcv tube on the block and move the collector to the front half. But really all that's really not worth it. I do have a/c, and can't do without it since my Z is almost a daily driver. In fact the only reason I have not installed my MS (bought since last year) as yet is because I am still inquiring how to run EDIS with all 3 pulleys (need my power steering too). Cutting off my PCV will choke my old engine, so I guess I will just get someone to do the best they can with the DP. Maybe I should have gotten the S30! LOL! Thanks again.
