willyp
I've been reading the net & this site for the last couple days & am VERY impressed by the knowledge & help provided by the members here. I have a 74 260Z w/SBC, Scarab car, it's supposed to be either an original early Scarab or one that was built by them, I've owned the car since 1983 & it had 62,000 on it when I bought it, it only has 85000 miles now. It's been sitting since the early 90's & since I just finished a couple other "projects" figured it was time to bring it back to life LOL! The "magic" of the internet (which didn't even exist when I got the car!) revealed to me that the V8 Z's have grown into a field unto themselves & I'm amazed at the tech, parts, etc that are available today. My car at this point has the original 327 that was in it, 5 spd T5 (replaced the original 4spd), R200 posi rear, triangular front strut/firewall brace, roll cage that ties into the rear strut mounts, bracing between the front & rear wheel wells/frame pickup points, Sumitomo calipers (took almost a yr back in the day to find that out, learned it from a guy who owned a large Z only business in NJ about 1984, he's the one who told me it was an original Scarab built car, he had a pristine one in his shop, they looked like twins!) When I got the car the floor boards & front rails were rotted (I'm in the NorthEast), they were replaced & the car was painted white (it was originally silver), 2 weeks later I ran into a guy on a bicycle (literally ran into him!) when he came through red light on a major highway, he wasn't even hurt (blood alcohol reading of 37!) but the car suffered about $4000 damage which his "bicycle insurance" didn't cover. I had the damge repaired, that's why the cars only partially painted in the pics below. The pics were taken last year when I finally got it to where I live now & I've just started taking it apart (in the last week) to redo, so I figured I'd "introduce" myself & the Scarab here, it's an "old timer", probably one of the earlier V8 conversions done & thought the members might enjoy a bit "history" on the life of one of the early V8 conversions which you guys now have brought to a fine science! I'd like to thank the members here for all the info that I've already found here & will apologize in advance for all the questions I'll probably be asking of everyone in the future LOL!!!! DavyZ
Good to have you here. A few members have original Scarabs and they are truly coveted for their rarity. Have a beer and enjoy the site. Nice Cobra by the way... Davy
Scarab 155
Welcome: You may indeed have a very rare car. I keep the Scarab Registry and am always on the look out for real "Factory" Scarabs to add to the list. Please PM me and we can discuss the areas of authentication. Don't molest it ! emeraldlion
I love Z's and you scarab looks to be a nice one, but I am absolutely drooling over the Indian. I love that motorcycle, it has so much character! Welcome to the site. Edited October 15, 2010 by emeraldlion
GOTHALOSISM
Yeah those scarabs are hard to find. I know a guy in Denver that has a low number scarab (at least he used to not sure if he still does). Now that was a super fun car to ride in. willyp
Thanks very much for the welcome & replies! Scarab155, thank you for the info you've already provided & I'll get those pics to you as soon as I can. Thanks also for the comments on the Cobra & Indian, greatly appreciated. The Cobra's an ERA 427SC replica w/an original 427 dual quad motor, 4spd top loader etc, the Indians a 2000 w/the 88" S&S motor & they're both definitely a lot of fun! I have a web site w/additional pics of the Cobra & Indian, will be adding pics of the Scarab as work on it progresses, the 3 I posted are the only ones I have right now, the car/MC section is the 4th one down, other metal toys w/wheels for anyone who likes to look at pics LOL! I've got factory Scarab #154 and funny as it sounds I sold my Factory Five Cobra to purchase it. Super fun cars both of them, but I wish I had them both!!!
