50 years of Japanese concept cars

I don't think this is a repost.

An absorbing trip through Japanese design history, here.

My personal favorite, the Nissan Sprint 1900 prototype, from 1963:

No S30's, and many early designs were clearly derivative (or outright designed by european companies). But as you browse, you can see the evolution of a very distinct and truly "Japanese" sensibility.

Awesome. Yeah I saw a lot of panteras and such on there. A lot of hummer/land rovers too. And would a sports car with a minivan door ever take I wonder. I still see a million concepts like the boga and esr, they're just dying to make those cars! I think my favorite name is "Super Heavy Dumptruck."

I like the figaro, although that car actually came to fruition. But not to the US :(

Oh how the world would have been different if this had gone to production. It's probably still FWD :P

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

Shows that the Japanese can style cars as beautifully as the Italians...the RX-500 and Nissan 126X/216X are amazing.

I like the RX-500 too. The nose is straight off the AMX III concept. A car designed by... wait for it... an Italian.

In truth all automotive designers steal ideas from each other. I give credit to the Japanese for as many mostly original designs as they have. Even if I don't personally care for the "distinct Japanese design sensibility".
