AKZX
I have a 1980 280ZX NA daily driver, and while I was driving yesterday, I pushed the brake pedal and NOTHING happened. From a slow speed and pushing the pedal as far as it will go, the car would slow down just the smallest bit. I don't know much about cars, but I got this Z to learn. Also, about a week ago, when I attempted to slow down from highway speeds (55+), the brake pedal wouldn't depress at all until I coasted a bit and the speed dropped some. I wanted to ask around to see if I can fix this myself before I go to a mechanic. Anyone have any ideas or probable causes?
m1noel
My first guess would be the master cylinder. Check for leaks and fluid level. If no leaks and the fluid is fine, pretty sure the MC needs to be replaced.
AKZX
Ah, that's what I was afraid of. Buy at least it's a pretty easy fix. I do have another question though, looking online, priced range from 150-365 dollars. I'd love to get a cheaper one, but I'm worried about lower quality. Anyone know a reliable brand or specific part or source that I can get a good one that goes in without modification?
AKZX
I went ahead and got a reman from Napa for about $50 that I can pick up locally here in Fairbanks. Thanks for the help!
stravi757
If your learning by yourself, your brakes probably arent the best place to start. Make sure you pinpoint the problem first. Dont just replace the part you guess is broken and hope it fixes it. When you looked at the MC was there no fluid in the reservoir?
