mistah mofro
I searched quite a bit around before i posted this, I was wondering how many people are running the l24 block without eyebrow-ing the cylinder for the larger valves from the n42/n47/mn47/etc. Also did you run into any problems without the eyebrows, is this for the exhaust and intake valves or only the intake? how much material did you remove to make the clearance? price range for eyebrows who didn't do it themselves? Reason why i ask is because im either going to rebuild my e88 or find a n42/n47/mn47 and slap it on, so i wont have to grab another head in the future for efi concerns. Noddle
Hi, This has been covered before, but I'm not busy at the moment, so I'll dug out some pictures for you, the first 2 are of a L24e engine ( W24 block ) that came with a (M)N47 head, the 3rd is of a L24 engine ( P30 block ) that I put this head on, as you can see the intake valve 'self cleared' itself Nigel Edited March 21, 2011 by Noddle
CamH
Hey Noddle, by "self cleared" I assume you mean that the valve hit the block and notched it for you. How'd the valve look after that?

Like this.. I blew the head gasket and had to replace it, that what happens with 15PSI and detonation. mistah mofro
the p30 block didnt seem to be effected by much or is that the one that blew the head gasket. Im not running any boost or anything (yet) would you say i would the same problem and have the head gasket going out without eyebrow-ed cylinders? I guess I'll get the block eyebrow-ed just for safety clearance so i wont run into the problem down the road. thanks much appreciated, i looked through the "Heads" post and couple people asking but i just wanted to know how safe it would actually be without eyebrowing it. More info on this would be much appreciated by anyone else.
Noddle
The W24 block was the one with the factory eyebrowing, and originally had the mn47 head. (MR30 Skyline) I put the mn47 head onto my P30 block with out eyebrowing, from the picture you can see where it 'self cleared' (small nick in the block) the P30 block is the one I blew the head gasket, running 15 psi, I had way to much advanced, and this caused the head gasket to go. mistah mofro
so if im not running any boost or any forced induction for that matter, i should be fine with the without eyebrows? just curious. Looks like im going to eyebrow them anyway since i do want to go l24et down the road, did you used dish or flattop pistons?
CamH
I think you should probably go ahead and do the eyebrows. I think Nigel just kind of got lucky with the valves not getting messed up. It's cheap insurance to just go and cut in the eyebrows and not worry about your valvetrain.

If I was to do it again, and if I knew it was going to hit, I would have eyebrowed it, my L24 has dished pistons Nigel
