theramz
This block I have been working on is different and can't find any reference to it. It has two oil pick up locations. The serial number is 755092. I got it as a long block so I don't know the donor vehicle. The other block I have is serial is 625766 that I pulled from a '82 zxt with AT and only the one oil pickup. All the other block features are the same. It must be for a car that used the F54 block but has a front sump. No big deal I can make a block off plate since it didn't come with one. ctc
Is it just the pick up that is duplicated or are there two dipstick holes as well?
theramz
Very funny, here's the other F54 block
ctc
Very funny, here's the other F54 block I was being serious! On a front sump car the dipstick is moved forward as well so that the oil is measured in the sump. On the block there should be a flat spot, just forward of the engine mount if I remember, that would have been drilled for the forward position of the dipstick. You might want to search for posts from people that have converted from front to rear sump or the other way round. Also if someone converted a rear sump block to front sump they may have blocked the rear oil pick-up internally in the block. I would advise you to blow some air or solvent through it to make sure it is open. Edited April 14, 2011 by ctc
Sparky
This block I have been working on is different and can't find any reference to it. It has two oil pick up locations. The late Maxima used that block along with some other things in the motherland IIRC, before you seal it up make sure that the rear oil passage is actually drilled internally as I've noticed that the front sump blocks are only drilled to the front. You guys are right. I looked closer to find a boss that could be drilled for a dip stick tube. The hole for the pickup is not quite drilled all the way to the oil galley and the mounting holes aren't threaded. It must have been intended for use in a JDM Maxima. I thought the L24 block was used in the US cars but I'm pretty sure I saw a 280 engine in a Max at the jyard. Anyway thanks for the info! josh817
Same on my F54. I can't remember what I found when I tried to see if it was connected to the main galley. I get plenty of oil pressure, so I'm not worrying about it.
