Coilover Conversion Data sheet

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of information on this Hybrid Z for coilover conversion. However, for the beginner, it's really hard to understand and sometimes missing data for how much length of the strut tube need to cut.

I created PDF file for your memo purpose to avoid mistake.

Hope this is useful. Let me know whether I should add/remove from the data sheet. :icon12:

What I learned that important data is the inside length.

The front strut length should be same between 240z and 280z, as well as 260z.

Based on John Coffy's instruction,

=====================================================

For Koni 8610-1437RACE Inserts

Shock Spec:

  • Stroke: 6.02"
  • Max L: 21.26"
  • Min L: 15.24"
  • A: 13.07"
  • D: 1.71"

Front:

From the dished bottom center of the strut to the top lip the overall length should be between 12.875" and 12.938"(B measured from the inside using a tape measure. The threaded collar weld-on ring height (assuming 10" tall springs and 5" tall threaded collars) measured from the top of the spindle casting (opposite spindle) is 5.250"(A). The strut tube is cut at about 6.5"© up from the top of the spindle casting to put the welded section under the threaded collar. From 1 to 2" is cut from the bottom of the top half of the strut tube but you must measure first to be sure of the exact length as specified above. The most important measurement is the overall length of the strut tube (12.875" to 12.938")(B

A = 5.25"

B = 12.875" ~ 12.938"

C = 6.5"

Rear:

From the dished bottom center of the strut to the top lip the overall length should be between 14.938" and 15"(F), measured from the inside using a tape measure. The threaded collar weld-on ring height (assuming 10" tall springs and 5" tall threaded collars) measured from the top of the hub casting (opposite hub) is 7.250"(E). The strut tube is cut at 8.5"(G) up from the top of the spindle casting to put the welded section under the threaded collar. From 1 to 2" is cut from the bottom of the top half of the strut tube but measure first to be sure of the exact length as specified above. The most important measurement is the overall length of the strut tube (14.938" to 15")(F).

E = 7.25"

F = 14.938" ~ 15"

G = 8.5"

Tokico Ilumina BZ3099 and BZ3015 Inserts

Front BZ3099
From the dished bottom center of the strut to the top lip the overall length should be between 13.375" and 13.500"(B, measured from the inside using a tape measure. The perch height (assuming 10" tall springs and 5" tall threaded collars) measured from the top of the spindle casting (opposite spindle) is 5.250"(A). From 1 to 2" is cut from the bottom of the top half of the strut tube but you must measure first to be sure of the exact length as specified above. The most important measurement is the overall length of the strut tube (13.375" to 13.500")(B

A = 5.25"

B = 13.375" ~ 13.5"

C = 6.5"

Rear BZ3015
From the dished bottom center of the strut to the top lip the overall length should be between 14.938" and 15"(F), measured from the inside using a tape measure. The perch height (assuming 10" tall springs and 5" tall threaded collars) measured from the top of the hub casting (opposite hub) is 7.250"(E). Extended length 19.74''
Compressed length 13.98''

http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/69623-the-strut-thread-koni-illumina-tokico-carrera-bilstein-ground-control/?p=643169

20.5" total length

12.25" body length
1.5" body OD

My measurement of the body length is 12.5"

I think it depends on where to strat measure the length around grand nut thread.

Thanks Leon.

Bilstein specific data sheet based from the famous Coilover step-by-step thread

Coilover_Data_sheet_Bilstein_P30-0032.pdf

post-25175-0-83564100-1372289859_thumb.jpg

On his thread, thehelix112 mentioned he added 9/16" with 2-1/4" OD spacer for front shock, but he did not mentioned the length of spacer for rear shock.

Comparing with Tokiko, KYB shocks, Bilstein shock is shorter stroke. I wonder whether I need to have longer strut tube compare with TOKIKO / KONI coilover strut tube.

I can't find the appropriate inside strut tube length for Bilstein F4-P30-0032.

Ground Control Coilover kit difference:

240z kit

5" sleeves

10" Eibach springs

280z kit

4" sleeves

12" sleeves

http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/113548-ground-control-coilover-sleeve-length/?p=1063576

If you want to lower 280z, it's better to get 10" springs instead of 12"

forums.hybridz.org/topic/85673-ground-control-coilover-installation-instructions/

i ordered 10in springs for my 280z, and it only lists 12in for mine, guy i talked to at GC recommended 10in ones if i wanted the car even lower.

called GC control yesterday regarding my (10in instead of 12in) spring rate and installation instructions on my 280z. since it only lists 12in on the 280z and 10in 240z. the guy i talked to said even though the springs arent as tall, i still should stick to the original instructions and weld the perch 8 inches from the bottom, versus the 240s instructions (7 inches from bottom).

240z vs 280z strut tube length difference

http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/93755-diference-in-stock-strut-length/?p=884341

Inside lengths of the strut tube using a tape measure:

240Z Front - 15.125"
240Z Rear - 16.750"

280Z Front - 14.750"
280Z Rear - 18.000"

I thought front strut length is same for 240z and 280z, but it looks like 280z is shorter than 240z.
