  1. OK so I set up my ecu to run an optical dizzy and made a base map to run on his engine. We were able to get it to start and I tried to set base timing but i really didnt know how to. Do I just make my whole advance table like say 10 deg and the nplay with degree offset till it matches up on the crank? I feel kind of bad because his car ran better before i touched it, but it doesnt do the weird no spark thingy anymore so im gonna open his ecu up and take a look at the jumpers. it looks to be prebuilt by diyautotune so the jumpers are probably right but ill check anyways.

One other thing, when I checked it the first time it had a blown fuel pump fuse and it popped again when we let it die for the last time. would it be ok to just throw a 15 amp fuse or should i look for a problem?

I tried to upload the msq but it wont let me.

  2. OK,

so went and played alittle with it again last night and heres what happened.

First off, I couldnt get his ms2 to connect to my pc. We took his car for a spin and it started cutting out like it did the last time only this time when he turned it off it wouldnt start back up at all. The reason it wont start back up is it has no spark at all coming from the coil. I really wish I could see whats going on in TS but im willing to bet he doesnt have a tach signal in TS. So, my question is what would make him lose spark when the car warms up? Im thinking his turbo dizzy is defunct. Im gonna swap my megasquirt in this weekend and try to recreate the problem. Hw has another dizzy we can try too.

  3. Just bringing this back to the top. Do we know when these are going to be available? Can we pre-order?

It's not posted to the DIY site yet. I'm starting to get flashbacks to the old Mervyns comercials with the girl outside of the store, face plastered to the glass, chanting "open, open, open".

Please oh please hurry, I ever so want the wheel!

I check the diyautotune website at least 3 times a day now. Dang you Matt, quit making awesome things!

  4. Im not a fan of innovates lc-1 either. I will give them thumbs up for support though. the first one I got didnt work right out of the box and they replaced mine on a warranty. that one died a month later and matt gave me a refund on it. He recommended the zietronix and ive been using that one without trouble. i almost got an aem though. btw thanks for the tips on my other post. ill check them all soon!

  5. hello,

I have a feeling that im gonna be walking into a flame ball fest with this question but i thought i would just ask before going back to help my buddy out.

OK, lets see, my buddy just bought a 240z w/ ms l28et swap. bone stock with intercooler/bov setup. It is a real ***** to start up at first sometime, then other times it starts up fine. When it acts up it sounds like the starter is having a hard time turning it over. Almost as if there is resistance on some of the rotations. Im assuming its because the turbo is compressing some air in the cylinders????? I dont know but my supra does it sometimes too so I figure its a boosted engine thing. So anyways we take it for a spin and it runs fine, boosts good then when it warms up a little it starts missing and cutting out. It is intermittent though. It also wont start back up after driving it even after cycling the ingition off and back on. Timing with a gun looks good, advances like it should so I dont know. I havent looked at what his map looks like because he doesnt have a computer. Ill go over tomorrow and hook one up to really see what is happening and post an msq for everyone to look at. I know I havent done everything but I figured I would ask to see if there was anything obvious that I missed. The wiring looks good to me but one thing that caught my eye was his iat sensor was mounted in the middle of the intake manifold. that wouldnt have anything to do with his problems would it? thanks for the help and support hybrid z!

  6. hello all, i wont be continuing my build thread on this website anymore. apparently my pictures are too big and i dont feel like dealing with the moderator as he is more trouble than posting here is worth. ill leech info from here but i will keep my posting here to bare minimum. thanks for reading, and i hope my pics helped at least one person before rb26powered74zcar deemed it "appropriate" to delete my hard work.

  7. I was working on coilover setup when I noticed this. It seems as though I have two of the same side rear LCA. Am I right or does one of them get installed "upside down"? Im worried that I may need to source a part that will be hard to find. If Im right that would explain why my spindle pins came out so easily.

    thanks,

    marcus

  8. Last night I disassembled my spare 3.54 R200 to take the carrier to work to pull and press the bearings to the OBX unit and install and torque the ring gear. I used the old bearings on the OBX unit so hopefully they are still good. I will reinstall the carrier into the differential case sometime this week. hopefully I wont need to shim it because I dont feel like hunting for shims.

My tokico Illuminas finally got shipped in the mail today. I was worried they wouldnt show up as i ordered them like three weeks ago. Im super excited to start modifying the struts for the coil over conversion. When they show up, I will officially have all the parts I oredered for this build. I did a tally up for the parts and it broke $4000. I havent even got the machine shop bill yet. Yikes!

I also had the pleasure of modifying my N42 intake to accept 14mm o-ring style injectors from an SRT-8 Magnum. They supposedly flow 34.5 LBs @ 59 PSI It looks good but fuel pressure will tell the true story. Ill be modifying my Pallnet barbed fuel rail to match the intake.

Tomorrow I will bend up the other frame rail out of sheet metal and weld it up. after I finish the rails I can focus on the small patches and when I finish modifying the strut tubes for the coilovers I can set her back down on the ground and start building the motor and wiring it up. I have alot to do for the motor that I dont need to do for an N/A setup. Run intercooler piping, mount the intercooler, mount the oil cooler, run the oil lines for the turbo, run the oil lines for the oil cooler, mounting the new RRFPR, blah blah blah....

I will try to give myself one week for engine build/wiring, one week for the suspension, and one week for patching/body work/paint. Hopefully I can hold myself to this schedule.

  9. hello,

Im in the final stages of parts ordering for my N/A-T swap and im hunting down fittings I will need for the build/startup of the engine. My question is where in the heck does the turbo get its oil supply from? I have a stock 280zxt oil cooler with the block adapter and it has a small plug on the side. would that be a good place to get the supply from? If not then where should I get it from? also will i need a restrictor of any kind if im using the stock 12mm banjo fitting? If so what kind of restrictor do I need? I planned to originally come off the oil pressure sender but it seems kind of ghetto to me if I can hook it up all factory like. let me know please or at least show me a pic. Ive been searching this for a couple of days, and its getting old looking.

  10. Today went very well I think except that I had to stop early due to rain and my welder runnig out of wire. I almost finished repairing one of the frame rails. What I did was bend up some sheet metal into a new frame, cut the old rust off the original and placed my new rail on as a cap. It turned out very good except the welds look ugly, but hey they will hold. Its my first time doing anything like this. It is alittle outside my comfort zone, but then again, if I didnt want to learn then I shouldnt be working on classics. Thinking back on it, I wish that I had done this to both sides but my other rail was completely gone. I figure that now i have a good flat surface to lay the frame rail on the other side.

Since I wont be able to work on the car again till Wednesday, I will install the OBX HLSD in my spare 3.54 diff in the garage. I wish that my tokico illuminas would just show up so I can start getting the suspension ready to go back on. I say that by the weekend I should be able to reinstall the rear and front subframes. It shouldnt take long to change out bushings, do the spindle pins, weld up the new strut tubes for the coilovers and paint it all up. I plan two to three days for all that. then i can reinstall the glass, carpet, seats, and dash (if I ever finish the dash).

    P.S.

Dont judge my frame rail work by the pics, i didnt take pics of them finished up. From the pics they look to be big but I made them fit.

I also got my OBX lsd in the mail yesterday as well as my rbryant washer/bolt kit. I installed them and snapped some pics. any questions, let me know.

  11. I finally got her up on the rotisserie today. Its probably the most badass thing i have ever done besides megasquirt carwise.

I worked on it yesterday too but all I did was finish removing sound deadening material and remove the front window. nothing too much.

Tomorrow I plan to Start the frame rail repair and if I finish that start cleaning everything and patching up the rocker panels.

I should be able to get at least halfway done patching up the rust, then I can worry about shaving the rear bumper area. I wont be able to finish it till the car comes off the rotisserie as I am using the bumper shocks to hold her up right now. I Have lots of cleaning to do!!!!

  12. OK,

I got most of my goals accomplished that I wanted to get done today. I built the rotisserie, drained the tank and dropped it. Then I chipped away some more sound deadening before it got too dark.

While researching limited slip options, I came across this thread, http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/88099-obx-differential-inspection-and-installation/page__p__835955__hl__lbhsbz__fromsearch__1#entry835955

I bought an OBX LSD on the spot. Now I feel I will have the ultimate drift/track car! LSD, coilovers, and a turbo motor. F#%KING SWEET!!!! Im already dreaming about drifting it to the moon.

Really though, im pretty excited to get her done so that i can drive it.
