Often times when I roll hard onto the throttle in first, second, and sometimes third I will hear a BOV-like sound of pressure releasing from the motor and a momentary loss of boost. This whole thing happens in an instant and then the boost will seem to build fine. What could be causing this?
A hunch tells me the problem is in this general area
What a mess.
Also, how much of that is emissions stuff that I can eliminate?
edit- Oh and only mod to the turbo system is a boost controller.

It looks like thats my problem, thanks 240.
Any way to remedy this? Do I need to replace/rebuild my turbo or go external?

I cant get my new 83 turbo's boost under control. If I dont take my foot off of the throttle it'll approach 14psi. I have checked and/or replaced every vac line I could find but nothing has changed. I am using a boost controller that was installed in the car when I baught it. If I were to bypass the boost controller should it boost to the stock 6-7 psi? Because thats not happening either.
I'm going to keep looking for vac leaks, but is there any place where I should look or where this problem commonly occurs?
