  1. John's leads are really good since you can probably modify one of the Daytona kit car header/side pipes to the Datsun chassis. Jegs and Summitt may still have rocker panel side pipes as well as Speedway Motors. I bought my rocker panel side pipes from JC Whitney for the Tomahawk Z 52 inches is about the correct length for the rocker panel side pipes. Try eBay under "side pipes"....... Hello John H.

  2. That is a booger worm casting that swallowed too much cast iron during the time the fire demons were most active in the cast iron process. The booger worms come out of their depths and wiggle their way into scrap cast iron heaps to mate and breed. Some get transported to the kilns where they meet a fiery death. There is a small movement in Japan to save and place this species on an endangered list but the Bush Administration is blocking these attempts citing that all scap metal export to the far east would come to a standstill if the rare worm was in protected status..........Mythology places the introduction of the worms by alien spacecraft 5 billion years ago .

  3. Corvair appears to be a pre 1965 with the 150 HP engine, 1965 and up had a turbocharged engine rated at 180 HP and a 4 carb engine at 140 HP. The pre 1965 Corvairs had a rear susspension where the rear tire would tuck in going around a corner very fast and woud not re-align itself causing many accidents. Ralph Nader came to the public's attention with a "scandle book" called "Unsafe At Any Speed" directed at the Corvairs faulty rear suspension and other problems reported in accurately. A simple leaf spring attached to the rear axles called a camber compensator (also camber compensators were used on VW bugs) cured the wheels from tucking under and sold for $50.00. !965 and later Corvairs had improved suspensions and the rear stability problem was solved. The Corvair's rear suspension defect was Ralph Nader's spring board into politics and gave him a living. The engine suffered from plugged over long emission lines. The lines would become plugged which would push oil out the dip stick and the oil would hit the fan spreading the goo over the air cooled cylinders which caused iver heating and engine failure. By 1969 due to Nader's attack GM could not give away the last models which were as rare as hen's teeth. I had a roomate at college that had an identical Corvair as pictured. Seems that most turbos were black or white. Yenko made a few hot rods out of the 65+ models and they handled great. My interest in the Corvair was for hybrid VW's and if Scotty GNZ will chime in...........he has forgot more than I know about Corvairs.

  4. Ashland (southern Oregon college town) close to Medford or Grants Pass.. All in the Rouge River Valley (Bear Creek Orchards). Further up north there is Roseburg (banana belt from Sutherlin to Canyonville) Don't even bother with a damp foggy rainy armpit like Eugene where I am located near. Continously growing Bend in central Oregon is quite popular for rec and skiing with nearby Sisters, Redmond and Madras and sunshine. Klamath Falls is a little isolated and winter cold by it's self.....................The Rouge River Valley is my ideal spot with my birth place in Grants Pass...............I got stuck here in the "world class river city" and former mill town that hosts a university. You can take the mill out of the university town but never the mentality of over compensation in a back water

  5. This was a rather common set-up for Kelmark and other VW based kitcars in the 70's. Apparently the trans plant was reliable I vaguely remember kit car magazine reporting on a large slalom event where a 455 equipped beat all comers and Kelmark used this win as later advertising. These kit cars show up in the eBay Replica vehicles section and some times cheaply

  6. Grade 8's are fine ...no need to torque .......just tighten.......................make sure you have plenty of bolt thread into the block mounting holes .............check the depth of the block mount holes and mark or color your grade 8 threads to make sure that you are not forcing more thread than possible into block mount holes. The way I tighten regular bolts/nuts on a Datsun without a torque wrench is to grasp the head of the ratchet with my hand and finish tighten until I feel discomfort in the wrist.............. same with wrenchs ......grasp as close to open or box end until discomfort in wrist.....Always use a torque wrench when required according to manual specs

  7. I've been screwing around with this thing for the last 8 years. Well, it's been sitting for about 5 after an electrical fire. It's all re wired w/ a painless (yeah right) kit and the motor and tranny are in and almost plumbed. Now the only thing left to do is everything.
Screwing around for 8 years ? Most marriages do not last that long. Finish it....no premature eZaculation Get a hold of yourself!!!!!!!!!
  8. If you are a true Hybrid Z'er...you will regulate the L6 Z to rhe yard and forget about it with plans to finish. Buy a new Z completely rusted out and tear it down and put it on a rotessire for 5 years to cure dry (an alternate form of rust removal) while you are looking for and buying V8 and tranny (buy one of each) and while you are at it...................redo the suspension 14 times There is no medication for this. You shot your load! ................re-coup and saddle up again ......It is kind of like sex with a car.Read the posts above... ie they are all encouraging various forms of foreplay. I am encouraging On3GO to experiment with pshchotropic medication in hopes of a cure..He is young and will survive any adverse side effects... We could approach a drug manufacturer with a group buy. After 100 posts you are Certifed Insane
