    77/78 hood

In need of a hood for a 78 datsun 280z. Looking for something that will be less than 200 shipped to ohio. I'd prefer a 77/78 hood, but any 70-78 hood will work. Thanks.
  2. If you could upload some picture that would help. Thanks!
  3. Hi, looking for datsun round hood emblem, and the script "datsun" emblem that goes on the rear hatch. Don't have to be new, but would like if they had all mounting pins. Thanks.
  4. Finally getting to the body work on my z. In hopes of getting it into flat black primer by the end of the summer. Started some disassembly today and had a question about the body kit i have for my z. My z is a 78 btw. For the msa type 2 body kit do i need to remove the bumper brackets, or will the kit fit over them? I already have the whole front tore apart, but have read on here how big of a job it is to take off the rear brackets. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Looks like a good idea, but don't want to mess it up. How hard would it be to drill this and make it perfectly straight?
  6. I have a 78 datsun 280z. Last year the head got a bolt sucked thru it and ultimately ruined it.(How a bolt got in there, we still have no idea). Decided to go ahead and purchase a rebuilt head off of ebay...what a terrible mistake. This head has been nothing but trouble. The problem is the threads on the top of the head that the rocker arm holder threads in to are gone. The dumbass that rebuilt it obviouslt did a terrible job. So what happens is the rocker arm holder comes lose and starts to make a very annoying tapping. We have tried JB weld twice now. It actually worked for a good 700 miles, then vibrated loose again. What are your guys suggestion to get this fixed? We were thinking take it to a machine shop and have them insert a helicoil, but are afraid we'll have to take apart the entire top end again which we now know is a pain. Another thought was to have a machine shop just weld the holder in place, but don't know how perminate this fix is. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  7. Im looking for a hood for a 280z. Would perfer a 77/78 hood with the cut outs for the vents, but does not have to have the vents in it. A regular z hood would work as well, just looking for a replacement, mine has bondo in it. Located in Ohio, and looking for something cheaper than 150 including shipping or local would be better. Thanks
  8. Hi, bought a seat off here a while ago that came with no hardware.. was going to use it for my driver side seat. Thought this would be an easy swap, but as it turns out the seat i bought is a passenger seat and the hinges on each side are bolted different. So looking for passenger seat hinges. Its the part that connects the top of the seat to the bottem and runs up the side of the seat. Not looking for anything over like 15 dollars.. i only paid 20 bucks for the seat and i was juss gonna use it for a replacement till i save up for a racing seat. Thanks
  9. so i decided to take it to practice today, a short mile trip there and back. It started fine and sounded normal. a little ways down the road it started clicking again...and it was loud. i have a video on my phone, but it wont let me upload it. if anyone wants to see the video juss pm me and leave your number and ill send it. im going out to get a socket set tonight so i can look under the valve cover. it defintly sounds like its coming from the head. also did a spark plug wire test while i was listening to it. it seemed like it died some when i pulled the middle four wires, but the first and sixth plug wires seemed to not have much effect on the running of the motor. could my valves have come that unadjusted or is there another problem here? its starting to become very stressful because this cars my baby, but if i need to put another head on it, ill have to get rid of her. someone please help
  10. yea thats what we figure wed do when i go home. i run nothing but premium gas in it. and i hope your right about the valves
  11. i usually dont drive my car for more than five miles when im on campus. i wont know until i drive home in a couple weeks to see what the temp is at. im pretty sure it was normal and about at the middle. pretty sure its something under the valve cover, and hopefully a simple fix
  12. so.. just went out and started the z. it ran great, and the loud knocking sound i heard last night when i got here was gone... there was a slight ticking noise coming from around the head. so when it comes down to it, it doesent get louder until i drive farther than like 45 minutes. what could be causing the noise? could my valves be out of adjustment? oil pressure was great when i started it, right in the middle of the gauge like usual. thank you everyone for the help.
  13. not sure on the engine but know its an n47 head. its stock. im going to go start it here in a few minutes and see if i can find where the knocking is coming from. ill give you an update once i go out
  14. i think i can rule out the clutch or tranny.. it sounded like from the motor but i couldnt tell exactly where from.. it didnt start making the noise till i got all the way to where i was going...sorry its kinda a non specific post but im just worried and wanted to c if anyone had some ideas.. im gonna start it up tomorrow after classes and c if the knock is still there
  15. so after a summer full of problems for my z we finally got it running. we took off the head to find a bolt stuck in the head between one of the valves.. there was no damage to the pistons luckly. we bought a new head for the car, and decided to go with a new header for the exhaust as well. we got it all together and it ran great.. its been my daily driver now for the past month. i am currently a freshman in college and live about 40miles from home. today on the way back to college from my house the engine began to knock. i stopped at a gas station and popped the hood but couldnt tell exactly where the knock was coming from. i dont use my car often, just to go home on the weekends. it has about 400 miles on it sense we replaced the head, and we planned on changing the oil at 500... what could be causing this knock? it scares me that we bent another rod in the head.. i sure hope this isent the problem.. but does anyone have any ideas where this knocking could be coming from? Thank you
  16. just purchased a brand new header, so no longer need one. thanks
  17. In need of a round port header for a 78 280z. It needs to be 6-2-1. i have one already but its bent and we cant seem to get enough clearence from the pipe and the ground. Taking it to the muffler shop in the morning to see what they can do unless someone has one on here they want to sell. Thank you
  18. we got it on! just kept wiggling and got it on to the collar. we then tightened it until it stopped tightning, then hit it with a rubber mallet. this allowed us to tighten the bolt more until we got it completely on. Thanks zmanco for all the help.
  19. we also dont have the head completly tight.. the bolt are just in holding it on...do u think tightening it all the way will give us enough?
  20. yea i proly estiamted more than it really is. u can see about 3/4 of the pin in the hole when looking at it through the front of the sprocket
  21. Yeah weve been trying with the screwdriver to pry it up, but where just like maybe an inch off, if that. Maybe we will get lucky and it will wiggle on up on.
  22. yeah we followed all the directions in the manual. we made a wood block and stuck in down in there before we took the head off.
  23. I have a 78 280 that just had a new head put in it. We are having trouble with the timing chain though. We have it up and somewhat on the collar, but the little hole on the sprocket is not high enough to go onto the pin. What can we do besides taking the front cover off to get us maybe an inch at the most to get my car back together?
  24. ha well i already had the header...juss needed to know if i should get the regular manifold gasket or the header one
  25. yea partly my bad on this one..sorry
