  1. I am looking for a 5-speed transmission for my ka24de 280z swap. If anyone has a FS5W71C tranny laying around either from a 240sx or 300zx NA let me know and I'll pick it up. I am located in the San Fran Bay area. Thank you
  2. So i just wanted to share something that I learned yesterday while putting my 1996 (s14 240sx) ka24de into my 1976 280z using a vildini ka/sr crossmember. It turns out that the s14 motor mount brackets will not work with the vildini crossmember. I called vildini up and they took care of the problem. I highly recommend them as their customer service is great. So in order for a ka to mount onto a vildini crossmember for a Z you will need to have the mount brackets from an s13 240sx. I do not know how many people will benefit from this but hopefully anyone getting ready to put a ka into their Z will come across this early on to avoid the confussion of "why don't the mounts line up?"
  3. I picked up a 1996 ka24de with 90,000 miles with everything i need so now i just need the engine cradle. I will make my own if I don't find one but if somebody has one laying around I would love to use it. I am not in a hurry to do the swap as the rains have started here in northern california. Let me know! thanks
  4. I know that vildini and mckinney sell the crossmembers, I was posting to see if anyone had one laying around for a project they never followed through with so that I could get it off their hands and save myself some money. Thanks though.
  5. I want to put an engine in my 280z. I am open to anything that I can get for a reasonable price. Any 4cyl or inline 6cyl (no carburated engines, no L24, L26. Also very interested in doing a diesel engine swap so if anybody has a diesel engine ld28, vw 1.9tdi, peugeot diesel, etc. thanks
  6. I have a perfect, clean 1976 280z shell that's awaiting an engine and tranny. I want to do a KA swap so if anybody has this and also a motor and trans that would be awesome.
  7. Another option is to remove your fuel tank, cut a hole in the bottom, weld a sump onto the bottom over the hole and there you go. Make sure that the hole in the tank is quite a bit smaller than the sump size so that the fuel does not slosh out of it when you corner. This traps fuel in it, at the lowest point of the tank. You can buy a sump or make your own. I made my own for my l28et 240z out of sheet metal and welded bungs onto it to fit my desired fittings. I ran this setup with a walbro 255 and had no issues. It looks really cool too. My brother runs this on his LS1 setup without any problems too.
  8. ive been looking to upgrade my turbo on my l28et. im installing megasquirt soon and everything else has been upgraded. from what ive been reading, the best option is a t3/t04e, .63 a/r 50 trim. but ive been finding good deals on t3/t4b's. will this still be a good option for my z? im not really looking for anything more than 350 hp or so. and also, will a .48 a/r be able to support that? thanks for the help
  9. is it normal that the vac/boost gauge in my l28et only shows boost while im driving. if i rev the engine while im parked it only climbs to 0 psi. but when im driving it climbs smoothly to 13 psi and holds there until i shift. just seems like the turbo should be spooling no matter what. what could cause this behavior?
  10. you're right DCZ, the vent line runs along the driver side frame rail. i hooked that line up, and it started up and ran great. no more hi pressure. it's also a plus becaue with my fpr mounted on the driver's side, the boost reference line is shorter, so less lean issues while building boost. i read a post about that last night. thanks for all the help.
  11. your the man clifton, small return line was my problem. i hooked the other line up and it started up and ran perfectly. thanks for all of your help. it would have taken me forever to figure it out myself. i'll let you know how it goes when i start turning the boost up a little more. i think standalone is next on my want list.
  12. i bet you're right. i am running stock lines. i welded a sump with 3/8 npt fittings but haven't changed the lines. clifton mentioned a larger diameter vent line that i could use. i don't remember ever seeing it, but where is it? do all 240z's have one? if not i guess i'm gonna have to run new lines. might as well upgrade my fuel in line while im at it.
  13. yes i am running the the stock return line. my brother mentioned that, but he's running the same setup with his ls. seems to work fine for him. i welded a sump on my tank, with 3/8 npt inlet and outlet, but have the stock sized lines running to it. where is the larger emmisions line located. i don't remember seeing a third line anywhere.
  14. ok, i just installed my jsk fuel rail and my aeromotive fpr. after fixing a couple leaks, i got it to hold pressure. it's at 65 psi. way too much. after turning the bolt on top of the regulator to turn the pressure down, the gauge still read 65. i don't know why, but my regulator isn't allowing my to adjust it. at 65, the car ran exactly the same as it did with the stock regulator, like sh%#. i think if i can figure out what's wrong with the regulator, and get my pressure back down to 30psi, it will run perfectly.
  15. im still trying to figure this out. my fuel pressure gauge says it's at 65 psi now that i got the aeromotive installed. way too much. it doesn't change when i adjust it with an allen screw. is my aeromotive broken? it still runs some how, but just as crappy as it did before. hey clifton, my bro and i were actually talking about driving down to phoenix to go to one of your z car meetings. we talked to sean about it. we sold him a transmission a couple months ago. when's your next meeting? well i'm gonna keep trying to figure this out cuz i can't stand not having my car running right. i think if i can get my fuel pressure down it'l be back to normal.
  16. ok, i replaced the spark plugs and ran the car for a couple minutes. the plugs are pretty much drenched in fuel. too rich. now i need to figure out why. could it have something to do with the walbro 255lph pump i just installed? the problem seems to have started shortly after i installed it. maybe my stock fpr isn't functioning properly and it's allowing my pressure to get too high? my fittings should be arriving today at 2:00 so i will install my aeromotive fpr and set the pressure at 30psi. if anyone can think of anything else i should check that could be the problem let me know.
  17. i have a boost gauge. it says my boost climbs to 8.5 then stays exactly there til i shift. i will get the other gauges. i noticed some smoke out of my exhaust. it seems like i might be burning some oil. maybe that's why my spark plugs are black. the engine has never been rebuilt so maybe it needs it. if that is the problem, is rebuilding it the only option?
  18. ok, i have a 240z with an l28et. i have been driving it for the past couple months stock. but i decided to start modifying it. i got an intercooler hooked up. as soon as i did it, the turbo started making a whoosh, whoosh, whoosh sound on downspool. it drove awesome though. i have ta boost controller hooked up, it is set at 8.5 psi. i also got a walbro 255 lph fuel pump hooked up. it's much quieter and seems to be working perfectly. i have an aeromotive boost referenced fpr, but don't have it hooked up yet cuz im waiting for fittings to arrive from summit. it's been driving perfectly for about a week with these mods until last night a connector for the w/r power wire from the alternator melted. i think it was because it was corroded. i crimped a new one on and i once again have elelctrical power. but, the engine isn't running the same. i don't know if its related. it's idling lower and rougher, and it studders until about 3000 rpm's. it basically feels like the engine is cold. after 3000 rpm it feels a little smoother and much faster. i took the spark plugs out and they were black. they didn't smell like gas though. what does this mean? is it running lean? what could cause this? could my injectors be clogged? the spark plugs are pretty new but will it fix the problem if i replace them? any help would be appreciated because i've spent hours searching for similar threads. thanks

  20. well i know its gonna be a while before i can keep up with the ls1. that thing's incredible. it has so much power i'm surprised the stock dif is taking it. so i started my parts collection. so far i have an intercooler, piping, walbro 255 pump, aeromotive boost referenced regulator, turboxs high performance boost controller. and soon i will have a boost gauge. how do i know what innitial fuel pressure i should be running when i turn up the boost? when i get bigger injectors wil i have to turn the pressure back down? and also can the computer compensate for the fuel upgrades? i don't think the search function is working properly for me cuz it comes up with all kinds of random stuff when i search for something. thank you guys for helping anyways.
  21. i finally got the type III side skirts on. its gonna look awesome with zg flares and repainted white.
  22. hi, i have been driving my 240z turbo for a couple weeks and i decided i wanna turn up the boost a little. what exactly do i need to safely do this? i have been reading tons of posts and it seems like everyone does it differently. i will be gathering parts for the next couple weeks so what should i get? right now the fuel system and everything else is stock. i have an intercooler. from reading it seems like i need a bov, boost controller, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, boost gauge. is this all? i am looking for around 12psi. any help would be appreciated. i have zero experience with modifying turbo engines. i just cant stand my brothers ls1 240z being sooo much faster than mine.
  23. hi, i just got my 240z turbo on the road this week. i have my fuel pump mounted in the engine compartment with one of those clear glass fuel filters from auto zone. when the car is idleing i can see air being sucked through the filter. it doesn't seem to have any affect on the way it drives. it seems like it's getting enough fuel even under full acceleration, but it just seems strange that there's air in my fuel system. can anyone help me figure out whats wrong here? thanks
  24. ok it seems to be running really good now. when it's warm and been running recently it starts right up. after driving it again i readjusted the timing to 23* because it runs best there. thanks for the help, i would have never figured it out.
  25. wtf, my friend has a prius and it's the lamest piece of s##t i've ever seen. the coolest part about it is the touch screen. are they actually serious about the tires not having traction??? someone please explain.
