  1. Gollum, what would be the other routs for the distributor less ignition?? I didnt understand, but I can use the msd6a, with the EDIS6 right?
  2. I was reading your post, abbout one member building a turbo n42 block with p90 head and you made the comment he would need a... you made the comment that it depends on the turbo, I have the same setup finished installing it this weekend, with a GT30R turbo from Garrets, can you please explain what you meant but this? and how it effects what happens to the block? Im guessing the bigger the turbo the easier it is to blow the rings? You got a lot of good advice here but as usual, its what you feel and want for your car is best for you, so if you have a crazy dream or idea to be done to your car that will make you happy, Do it, and give yourself a nice treat! just do it right
  3. Also I was thinking, using the e11, I found the LSx Coil Pack online for $100, if I was to hook The LSx coil pack up with a MSD 6a ignition would that give me Much Better results?? or is it either the MSD 6a, or the LSx Coil pack? edit.. what about the EDIS igntition? would that run better? or... no? sigh Im so confused at what setup to go with for ignition lol.. I thought just the msd6a box, a msd blaster 3 coil, some new msd spark plug cables and a good tune would be perfect... and Ive been hunting for a good EDIS distributor less system, or nbow a LSx Coil pack which I guess there not $100, there $100 per coil (the msd ones) so just let me know what your ideas are. thank you. Ima keep reading these different web sites I found on ignition setups.
  4. who could sell me that LSx Coil pack? I would buy it in a heartbeat
  5. I can get the MSD BTM For $150, and I already have the msd 6a, but Im running a wideband and a haltech e11v2, and I cant figure out if haltech ellv2 has a BTM option? I know I can retard timing with it, but is it the same during boost like the BTM? I was told I need it, but they couldnt say if haltech has it, and I was also told I dont need it cus I can get the tune from haltech? any idea? and to hook up the msd6a, I just need hook it up nortmally to the leading harness from the haltech right? thanks
  6. I need MSD Boost Timing MAster for my MSD 6a, and shocks/coil overs must be adjustable, strut bar, open to other performance parts as well. thank you..
  7. http://www.zcar.com/forums/879956/got-coil-packs-cop-megasquirt-running Im reading this, so I can get a accel for 6 cylinder EDIS coil pack for like $60
  8. Yea sounds good! the car was tuned when I had the f54 block in there, but I had no msd, and was running 91 octane, Im thinking to move up to 93 octane since Im going to have this n42 block.. I have plugging up my zetronics data logger to my laptop and trying to get it logging and such. As far as the haltech Im not messing with that, just trying to read as much as I can since Im new to it I dont want to screw up my tuning.. Im kinda understand that once I put this n42 block in I need to get it tuned again? Especially if it has flat tops.. the Only guy I know with a 280z is only knowledagble with street tunes, not haltech so thats the issue.. but I guess were going to have tune my car with my wide band until I can get the haltech tuned, and just keep my boost at 10lbs... I have been reading about the n EDIS 6 coil packs, they are quite expensive tho! I have a haltech book manual around here actually.. Thank you gollum.
  9. Thank you so much for the help gollum I so very much appreciate it! those are quiet expensive tho, Ill post an add see if anyone can sell me one.. is there a specific model I need to get or just one for the type of engine I need? didnt know if they are universal or not.. anyways I found this, the BOOST TIMING MASTER http://www.jegs.com/i/MSD-Ignition/121/8665/10002/-1 but it says its for a dodge viper, I dont understand why it wouldn't be able to work on my car, (I understand made for a dodge viper) but what makes it FOR a dodge viper?? is it already preset or something? Mmm, Also I just ordered the 8910 tach adapter for my l28ET engine.. I have the msd6, the haltech ellv2, and the zetronics wideband all for tuning.. Im going to find out if the haltech e11v2 allows me to do timing retarding during boost would you have any idea about that? or would anybody?
  10. http://www.eautoworks.com/product-ACCEL-119022/Ford-Escort.htm LIke this above? Only for the straight 6 version right? so this replaces my dizzy and makes better setup for me.. is installation tricky?
  11. Yea I have a Zeitronix, it has a egt sensor and arf, too.. I dont have a stock distributer tho. but I still have my stock coil, so I was going to get a msd blaster 3 coil.. ya the tuning is what Im worrying about..But since the block has dished pistons, that mean my compression will still be the same as running my old f54 block with my p90head right?and if my tuning is off.. as long as Im not boosting I should be fine.. I hope.
  12. I think thats what my haltech e11 is doing.. also, Im pretty sure haltech e11 can control retarding the timing under boost? but Im not sure.. IM HORRIBLE with the haltech I need more training for that.. http://force-efi.com/e11.htm http://www.hitman.hm/e11v2.html <----------- THIS is the one I have the above is the link of some of the features of my haltech
  13. Ive broken my car down to pieces and rebuilt it too? Yes, In the threads I post, if you dont want to help or have anything positive to say dont post I dont care to argue with people over the internet if I hurt your feelings dont post in my threads? Nothing to do with making my own rules. Ive read as much as I could in two weeks to still not find the answer I needed specific to my question. Plain an simple. Nothing to do with being unwilling or being lazy. I didnt need any help until I got a n42 block, Btw, I do know what the previous ownder did to the L28ET setup, the NA engine I bought this week is the 2nd owner,he got it from someone else so I dont know what He did to it no, but I took it apart last night and figured everything out. I know damn well my age is not an excuse stop bringing that up. Ive been all around Google and different forums and still didnt find an exact answer all I could find were NA setups not Turbo setup's using this head and block. Ive only worked on a L28ET Im new to using any other block or engine setup, including parts needed for the specific transformation to my engine so no I dont have a manual for it. Anyways, Thanks for the advice.
  14. Was not calling any body names. Funny, all the donating members like to gang up together now? "Im gonna go get Tony D" How cute. Ive been reading, and searching for about 2 weeks now on this subject it got closer and closer to the do date of buying the block, and that was yesterday and I got desperate for information which I needed for that reason I turned to this forum. And it seemed, and felt that just because yes I dont know the internals of a engine from the back of my hand that "Oh hes new, He didnt build this car, no more help!" Well? big deal. So what becuase I am asking a question about a new engine setup means I cant build and know what to put on a car? Haha Im learning more and more every day. If people dont want to help they dont need to. Im 21, Ya I dont have 5 10 or 20 years experience. Read my post again, I didnt say discrimination needs to be ended, what did I say? oh Over Minor Things. Never mind Thats all going to go nowhere. Anyways Im not going to argue if you dont want to help or dont agree DONT post. I got my engine, I know exactly what I need. Listen, if you dont have **** to say or want to help dont post at all Simple. Thank you
  15. No tantrum here, haha wow.. Anyways, Thank you but I had already figured out the answer to those questions. Im getting the head gasket for the n42 block and all the rest of the gaskets for the p90 head, I was confused about the clutch cus I have 2 f54 blocks and 1 n42 block, the n42 came with a clutch and the f54 block one has a center force clutch the other has a OEM clutch and I have a 240tranny so I wasnt sure if I should use the centerforce from the f54 or the just leave the stock New clutch from the n42 block (worried it wont work with the 240 tranny) Anyways, I did search I couldnt find thread, I searched google, zcar forum and here couldnt find an answer for the p90head and n42 block swap, not whatI needed to know for my setup, and since I got the block Last night I was in a hurry to know since I needed to get the gaskets and stuff this morning so I can do my swap friday and I couldnt find the difference in these clutches. I figured these all have to do with ap90head and n42 swap so why not.
  16. Haha People and there High, Very High Horse once someone finds out someone is new there ego jumps in. I guess people forget were all the same and discrimination needs to be ended over minor things. Im a 21 year old who needs help with his 3rd rebuild ever.
  17. I bought the car with a lot done to it, and Im still learning more about engine internals and workings etc. Regardless, I dont see why I cannot get some help? These are serious questions, and this is the first Ive heard of ignition not being a factor with detonation, when Ive always heard it really is a big factor if your ignition isnt upgraded and the air to fuel is.. But as I said in the above posts, Im not good with engine rebuilds. I dont know why someone needs to be experienced with engine rebuilds or not to get advice on what gaskets to get when doing a rebuild haha. That doesnt seem right. Ive rebuilt my 83 l28et, no problem. But this time Im rebuilding a n42block to a p90head so yes Im concerned which gaskets to use! Why cant I get an answer. And since Ive never used a n42 block. Im not sure if the clutches are the same size from the 82 f54 block. Ive Only dealt with the p90head and the f54 block together. Is it wrong for you guys to help and assist someone who just wants to make sure he gets all the right answers to His Specific questions? If I had already found these answers after 2 or 3 weeks of intensive searching, I then I would not be asking you now but I need to do this right since this is my daily driver and only car and with finishing my rebuild by next week I cannot work. So please clarify, I need to get a n42 block head gasket, and every other gasket to match up to a 82 p90 head That is correct? And I do have a brand new clutch for the n42 block, but I would really like to use my stage 2 center force clutch so please tell me allignment is the same from the f54 block to the n42 block for clutches. And to tell you the truth I think this is the perfect place for these questions, since the thread title is Putting a p90 head on a n42block meaning in my ides any help involving that subject (including compression, drive train, assembly) as I have never dont This sort of rebuild before and I am still new to these cars and there engines. Ive only had a Z for 3 months or so.
  18. Hey guys... I got a questions shoulda added this earlier.. okay, since Im puttinga p90head on a 75 280z block, couple questions about what I will need... Gaskets: The engine was rebuilt 5k miles ago (75 280z engine).. can I use the head gasket or any of the other gaskets from this engine on my setup?? And, since the setup I have is for a 82 280z turbo engine, what Other gaskets do I need to put this together? Should I buy a 75 280z COMPLETE GASKET SET, or do I need to mix and match? If so, which ones do I buy for a 82 280zx engine, and which ones do I buy for a 75 280z engine?? Also, I have a Centerforce clutch, that I have been using on my 82 280zx engine (f54 block with a 240sx transmission) can I continue to use this centerforce clutch?? or should I use the Brand new clutch that comes with this 75 280z engine??? please let me know what I need to buy.. first time doing this..
  19. Okay man thank you so much for your help! So, dished or flat top pistons, regardless I can still put the p90head on the 75 280z block. and if I dont boost more then lets say 12 or 13lbs, with my msd6a, it will work and run without early detonation for a couple months or so till I can rebuild my f54 block on the side? cus Im getting this NA block today for $100, and Im deciding if I should get it or not? what do you recommend for boost? no more then 10? or no more then 15? or is 13 okay? Also, for the msd setup.. all I have is the Box, I can go buy the MSD coil, but right now I have a stock coil, and a igniter coil, can I use those with my msd box? or should I not? also, what do you recommend for me to do to prevent detonation Less boost is best? I think Im going to get that msd that your talking about, its like 350$ on google. please give me any other advice to help me out with this situation. as I said its a 75 280z block with bored .30 belowis what I was told... "the 75 l28 should have dish pistons the the early blocks are not as strog as the later blocks and the turbo pistons are stroger then the na pistons. the boreing of the block 030 over is because of wear on the cylinder walls and is not an improvement over stock for strangth or endurance. the stock l28t motor will handle 20psi of boost, and with a larger turbo, injectors, fuel pump, an intercooler and a new program with q16 or c16 the wright set up will work great at 20psi. I don't see any way that it can run 20psi on 91 with any kind of air temp or for any amount of time. Its just to much heat."
  20. That was my setup, I blew the ring lands or the piston rings from early detonation cus I had a stock ignition and I wasn't getting to much Air and Fuel and not enough ignition, which is/was my believe an also my friends and mechanics... I had a stock little coil, and couldn't boost more then 10lbs because of the ignition (what I was told) but before I learned that limit I was boosting 15, with stock ignition, that is all I know.. And now I have the msd 6a, soo where do I get an ignition like that?? (the ring-lands were from a l28ET built, f54 with standard dished pistons- blown from detonation) so I dunno all I thought I need a msd ignition and Ill be fine. 21. Already great, but if it does have flat top pistons? Well, I had my entire car and everything built to 20lbs of boost, but I didnt have upgraded ignition, so I detonated early since I was boosting to much.. :\
  22. ironic to me, cus all the engines I see are None turbo and I need a turbo! lol
  23. so even the flat top pistons bored .30 with a p90head and a turbo setup that compression doesnt look to high! the block is from a 75 280z. so I think its a n42 or n47
  24. So tomorrow, I am buying a 75 280z Short block for $250, and Im going to put my p90 head on it, into my turbo setup. the 75 280z short block I believe has dished pistons, it is bored .30 over, anyway My car is completely set up top to bottom, I was at 20lbs of boost with my f54 block but since I didnt have my msd installed I blew rings. What do you think I should do if the pistons are flat topped? if I get a Good tune, and boost about 15lbs would I be alright? what about block overheating? am I at risk for this? I have inter cooler, oil cooler, flexalite dual fans. any advice or comments. I know a lot of people have put p90 heads on na blocks other then the f54, even With flat top pistons... please give me advice and if anyone knows of a f54 with dished pistons in Great condition please let me know..
