If you have it in Arizona try a bottle of RXP, it is a little orange 2.5 ounce bottle and costs around $6.95. It's available here in Texas at HiLo and Autozone.it should help lower your HC and CO. Plus it makes sure your gas completely burns and gets your engine decarboned. Good luck.

Big time problem! Might defect to the chevy muscle car croud
Sumo replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
You should build up the Chevelles first then sell it so you can have more practice and more bucks to build the Z. -
He has not been active lately and here is the last email address i have of him. I do have a pic of his car, i wanted to take more for him but i havent seen nor heard from him lately. v8zbyjd@aol.com

Adding wieght to my car... belive it or not!
Sumo replied to Evan Purple240zt's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Are you also going to put one of those retractable TV's in it too? It's the kind that looks like a stereo then it slips out, folds up then becomes a TV screen w/ regular tv channels, DVD and navigation system and you can hook up a Nintendo or Playstation too. I think Kenwood and Alpine makes them. I dunno' about your wallet but the car would look cool. -
Which older car can I get the 350 to rebuild?
Sumo replied to VinhZXT's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Welcome Vinh nice to see you here are you working on another ZX? Most 70's Camaros came with a Chevy 350 if it did come with a 305 the dip stick for the oil should be on the passenger side i think. The later 80's Camaro and Firebirds came out with mostly 305 and a few IROC Z28's came out with the 350 TPI engines. I think the mid 80's Firebirds that came with a 350 were Formulas and Trans Ams some plain firebirds came with a six only. Most early 70's Trans Ams came with either a Pontiac 400 or and Oldsmobile 403, the difference being the Olds had the oil filler near the top radiator hose. I'm not 100% sure on these but check to make sure. Someone here gave a link once on how to decipher the casting numbers hopefully it's still in the old post or he'll post it again. Good Luck. -
I remember from some old 5.0 magazines that the 302 FI after 88 or 89 were better because they had the mass air FI system. The speed density stopped by 87 or 88. You might want to dig deeper though for more info on the FI system switch over. Hope it helps.

You might get a little bit of a variation but I think it's negligible. Have you tried using a "T"? so that both are in the same location? I tried this with an oil gauge and the stock idiot light, but not with a temp gauge.

I've seen a couple 350 of engines including a ford 302 that were bored .040 over that was used for street only application and the biggest problem was overheating. But I've also seen a lot using the same bore for strip only and never had a problem. The way I look at it 4 bolt : street, strip, towing , nitrous, "bragging rites"( i got a 4 bolt main,...blah!blah!) purposes 2 bolt good for street unless you abuse it then it is only good for a boat anchor.

Pictures! Pictures! Pictures! Did I mention we want to see pictures? Who knows this may inspire someone to do the 90-96 gen Z's.

I had the same problem when I bought my Z believe it or not, no one takes old gas. So I left it in a gas container and used it on my mower. Then some of it evaporated because I left the cap off and some of it I ran with some fuel additives that someone gave me that I did not trust( no name Amway crap). So I used all that additive in the lawn mower and my weed eater. It ran ok the rest of the gas is still sitting in the container evaporating.

I do'nt know if this is true, but does'nt propane make the car use more fuel? I know it is half of gasoline but does'nt that mean to say you fill up more often? Just wondering.

Not that this has anything to do with the Z but my brothers former Crown Victoria did that too. Vibrating only at certain speeds or RPMs. Turns out one of the bearings went bad in the rear end and caused the front U-joint to shake it self apart and disengage from the tranny. Good thing the Y-pipe was right underneath and prevented the drive shaft from planting. Ruined the pipe though and had to put new U-joints on it. Turns out after the rear end was taken apart, all kinds of metal filings fell out and one of the bearing caps was burned severely. Sold that car real quick. So check out the bearings on the rear end, hope it helps.

Have you guys noticed the gas getting crappier??
Sumo replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
If you still have MTBE additives there in CA like we do here in Dallas that may contribute to it. This additive is supposed to burn cleaner but in order to do that you burn up to 15% MORE gas. Does that make sense? Burn more fuel to have cleaner air. -
Do these wheels look like turbine type wheels? I have western wheels but they are only 5.5 wide.

My understading was pending legislation was shot down by George W. Bush because if only 18% of the cars are causing high emmisions, then why bother the other 82%. I know this isn't on the exact up and up, but if you really wanna skirt the emmissions test in texas, get a PO Box in a surrounding county, get your car registered in that county, and get your regular plain jane inspection done. Right now its any car that is 24 years or younger. since most of texas is rural, and these old ranchers won't stand for having to buy new trucks to pass emmisions and trust me these guys run texas, they have alot of clout. of course you could do like I do, and register your car in your parents address, and use it for insurance as well Locutus is right but Denton county Collin county and the others will be covered under the proposed emissions crap. Anything near DFW and I think Houston area are bound to be included. :} Meat .... it does a body good.

Does anyone here know if the tri-power setup from Dick Goodmans car is emissions legal? Would it pass a sniffer test if it had too? I know the carb runs on two barrels during regular use and the other two kicks in on demand. The way they test it here in Texas is both idle then they rev it up to about 2,000 rpm. By the way who is a good source for this set up and how much? On the emissions side of things, my Z is a 75 but there is something in the works about testing everything from 1968 till 2 yrs old. I might not even start the project if they even think of starting that again. Right now only the Dallas/Ft. Worth area is covered. The car is just tested on idle in park for part 1 then revved up to 2k i think for part 2. Then they do a visual (actually most of them pretend they know ) check the gas cap all the vacuum lines then the safety. They are also thinking about the remote sensing sniffers for people who live outside the DFW area. Usually a lot of people who fail the test here just buy a bottle of RXP. It reduces the emissions and negates the so called reformulated gas which actually burns dirtier and is now found in the water table. Actually the additive M.T.B.E. ( Methyl Tersiary Butyl Ether)the so called "cleaner gas" is the same stuff California is trying to flush out of their gas, is being pushed by the T.N.R.C.C. (Texas E.P.A) here believe it or not. Tanx for the replies. [This message has been edited by Sumo (edited March 11, 2000).]

The JTR book sez to use the Hooker Block Huggers. Someone told me that the Summit Racing Brand is Identical and much cheaper. Anyone here tried or saw both to have a comparison? Thanks for the replies, I knew there was a difference in flange thickness in some of them, I guess I wanted to see the difference in quality and tube bends. By the way I have seen the long tube that S&S makes from the JTR manual. You do have to modify it somewhat because Jason D. said that these were made mostly for Hot Rod set ups. So Bend it, fit it then get it coated. Thanks for the comparo guys! [This message has been edited by Sumo (edited February 18, 2000).]

Michael is right, with the right combo you can achieve those numbers. You gotta remember the 305 was built with fuel economy in mind But it's a decent runner and with some aftermarket parts on it, you'll get some good results. With a shift kit in the tranny same thing, but if your building this for the street for daily thumping...I mean driving modified 305's pretty good.

Hey Pete, Does the x pipe on your exhaust make it louder? I know it's supposed to balance out the engine and make it smoother, and it's a lot better than the H pipe. I was just wondering about the sound levels. By the way, nice set up.
