If your friend hooked up the starter wrong then that would explain the no power. The positive side of the cable might not be hooked up but we need like a picture or specifics to figure out if that is the cable going to the stater. Check if the negative or ground cables are also attatched properly.

Most aftermarket alarms installed are done by lazy people, If they are done by Best Buy or Circuit City or little mom and pop shops. They almost always put the starter kill near the steering column. If it is a later model alarm the starter relay may be built-in. The brain box usually is located also on the bottom left hand side of the column. Have you tried adjusting the motion sensor on the darn thing? This sometimes also works, just pull the fuse to it, it should leave it off and you still have full function of the car, but it does not work on all models. Also you could just clip the siren for the moment.

With my car it diesel'd because of the mixture. It was running too rich, so i turned the mixture screws in clockwise then as soon as the idle got a little rough i backed it out a half a turn. The timing was only a degree advanced and the idle was on spec. Although a year later i had to have the carb rebuilt anyway.

As far as i know you dont need to flush out anything. I personally just use Castrol 10-30 regular oil. And i assume that synthetic blends are 50/50 synthetic and regular oil so it should be fine.
