    S12 R180 ?'s

    after a long and gruling search, i am left with a few ?'s. does my 77 280 have the same cv joints as the s12 R180? and, has anyone just swaped the whole rear end, disk breaks and all, into an S30? it sounds like the axels are too long on the s12, but i'm not sure.

  4. i guess i might be giving these engines a bit too much credit. i thought i could do 250hp for alot less than it's turning out to be. i'll just push the limits of my budget and call it a day. whats the best price for a stroker kit? MSA's is like 2k i think. anything cheeper?
  5. what about the z31 ECU and MAF upgrade? would that be of much help?
  6. well then, sounds like i need to rethink this. any idea of what it would cost to get it board over for the stroker kit? what about a valve job?
  7. i'm lookin to build my stock l28 a bit. i'd like to hit 250hp but i'm not sure if what i want to do will get me there. i'm thinkin stroker crank(just the crank, no boaring), port/polish, 60mm tb, cam, flat top pistons, and header. will that get me close to my goal? i'm goin to be doin this on a tight budget so the less mechineing the better.

  9. well just to make sure u'r not missunderstanding what i have, my 200 is ca18et powered, not fj20. the fj20 was never offered in the states. the RSX was the fj car. i've herd of guys down under runnin 13's with little more than fmic and more boost. the ca18et is a good engine, but starts blowin head gaskets around 300hp. but 300hp will put the s12 into the high 13's. and i currently have someone lookin at the car. heres the link, theirs 3 ppl on wait tho. http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=9785&highlight=turbonotch srry for the slight thread jackin.
  10. i hear ppl sayin fox body, what about the GM F-bodies? is this with stock engines? my vote, with stock engines: f-body fox body Silvia RSX(fj20 powered rwd 200sx) FC and FD RX-7 4G63 powered DSM also, Fiero suspension bolts right up to the Chevette. u can go fast in a strait line, and turn! oh and bastaad525 and rudypoochris, the 7M is the MKiii Supra motor.
  11. i've heard that the s12 front is very similar to the 510. over on club-s12.org we were lookin into using 510 cause they're pretty close in design. also, the 280zx front shocks fit the s12, if that tells u anything about the rest of the suspension. oh, and s13 control arms and tie rods bolt right up to the s12, very similar, if not the same design. s13 coilovers can be made to fit the s12 with minor tweeks. hope that helps.
  12. isn't that bad for the rack tho? the rack gets it's lube from the ps pump. if u remove that than the rack dosen't get fluid and it dries out. or can u just pack grees into it?
  13. what other racks are compatable with the z31? also, is it posible to tweek it so it's nonpower?

  15. i have a Magnaflow strait thru race muffler on my stock 280z and it's not much diff from stock in sound. fit's perfectly too.
  16. very interesting. it's usualy an s13 or s14 with the s15 front end swaped. i like it. in fact, that looks like it's easyer to do than the s15 on s13 conversion. cause with the s15 on s13 they have to do alot of work to the quarter panels to get the widebody to look right. got any more pics?
  17. the R180(n/a ca20e) and R200(turbo ca18et) in the 4cylinder 200SX had 4.11. the V6 moddle(SE vg30e) had an R200 with like 3.7 or so
  18. who sells aftermarket fuelrails? i remember seeing a thread about one but i can't find it again.
  19. how acurate are the spec tags under the hood and in the door jam? i know on my 200sx it's says it weighs around 3600 pounds, but they only weigh around 2500. and the hp rating, is it correct? sorry if it's already been asked, i couldn't find it.
  20. just so i know it's clean. it's got about 145k on it and the last owner drove i hard, so it's just a "now i know it's been done" kinda thing.
  21. whats the best way to clean out the engine? i've herd people say a quart of ATF, and of corse Seafoam, but what else is their?
  22. that is the best looking V8 swap in an s13 i've ever seen, absolutly spectacular. seeing as the weight diff between that and the sr isn't far off, i'd so take the yota motor, sr's have no lowend. i'd rather turbo a ka tho. get new pistons, cause the stock skirts and rings arn't that great for boost, and run 250hp easy and have some lowend power.
  23. sorry to bring this back up, it's not that old thou. the DET head isn't worth modding to fit the ET block. i don't remember all the details but far to much work is involved to be plactical. their was something to do with the combustion chamber and stuff about the dizzy. club-s12.org has a thread some were that talks about this. or it did, don't know if it survived the crash we had. we have a member in the club that is right around 300hp over in Boise. he's working on going higher but keeps blowing head gaskets right now. he has built alot of custom performance parts for the 1.8t s12's. the reason that the s12 is not popular, so say we s12 drivers, is that the AE86 is the main car in Initial D. with that shows growing popularity, more and more people are turning to the 86. if the s12 was put into something and was raised up for it's capability, it would be more comonly used. as far as the rear end is concerned, the R200 and R180 in the CA cars have a 4.11 gear ratio. the R200 came in the turbo car and the R180 came in the n/a CA20E car. the R200 in the VG powered car has i think a 3.9 gear, something right around their. the whole rear suspention is the same as the z31.
  24. do u have to get the turbo ecu or is their another system that can be used? i'm lookin for something reliable, easy tunability and affordable. i'm looking for about 200-230ish reliable hp.
  25. what if u can't get a turbo motor? i don't have any near by, but i can get an n/a for dirt cheap and rebuild it. i was told that the rings are the first to go bad at about 200hp, is that the case?
