  1. WOW...very,very,very nice ride! You STOLE that for $3000 partner! Has lots of nice bits on it aswell. Nice job on that deal. Where are you from anyway? Congrats, Racin (POS 240) Jason
  2. Just curious here. What is the advantage of triangulating the strut brace on our cars? Is it really noticeable on a street car, more so than a single brace i mean? Jason
  3. Well a couple little things come to mind that can add up.. Upgrade the HEI with a module and external coil = more spark (and HP) after 4500rpm (this might be enough without a full MSD system..) If you dont already have them..headers and an open air cleaner should be first on the list. Roller rockers will reduce some friction and heat, giving a few ponies too. Electric fans are a given on these cars it seems. Unless you have a 14" long spacer for the mechanical fan..and we know that would look sharp! Electric waterpump is not needed on a street car. The benefit of electrics doesnt outweigh the simplicity, flow or low cost of a mechanical IMO. I'd do alittle research on cast pistons+nitrous before you start bottle feeding your baby. They can certainly handle some..but you need to know your limit before you start spraying. Beyond that is getting into the serious MONEY. If you want to really up the ante you should consider a hydro-roller cam or maybe a 383 stroker kit. Best of luck! Jason
  4. I didn't see a crank or rods in his list of parts. I'll just let Ron answer the questions because he seems to know 'exactly' what your situation is.. Ok Ross, I give up, its all you buddy.. [This message has been edited by Racin_Jason (edited March 18, 2001).]
  5. Ron and BLK~ Being that I've never had such a light car with a V8 I suppose I underestimate how hard it is to modulate the power at low speeds. I was actually refering to the "feel it" experienced from roll-on acceleration at freeway speeds..there is where (on most street cars anyway..) you'll be happy you have the extra torque. But alas, I am but a mere grasshopper in this big land of Sensai's and I have many wax-on and wax-off's to achieve BTW: I'm with Mike on this one...why not BOTH? The 383 kits are about the same price as rebuilding a 350 and a roller 383 is a beautiful thing! Jason
  6. Thanks for the input once again. I assumed that the stock line could support a fair amount of power if the pump was strong enough. I would prefer to stay with the mechanical pump thats on the 350 now for simplicity. The aftermarket mechanicals can support a SB well above 350HP I would guess. I suppose I'll just try the stock line to the engine bay at first and if it does starve..i'll do 3/8 line ala' Pete Thanks again Jason
  7. Terry, About the 5/16 being used on BB's...the guy I bought this from had a 406 in it that was 12:1 compression and was running a thirsty 750 double pumper! I road in it and it, amazingly enough, flat hauled ass all the way to <cough> 8000 RPM'S! I've been taught that theres really no such thing as overkill in fuel line size, but Im wondering if the general acceptance for what size can supply what power is wrong. In my cars case..I would have never believed THAT engine was being fed by a 5/16 line. Still shocks me when I think about it. But, even more shocking is that he had the shorty headers Y'ing into a SINGLE 2.5" PIPE! I can only imagine how the top would have felt if that was TWO 2.5" pipes. But, it DID still HAUL ASS. Go figure.. Do I HAVE to use a return line with the Datsun fuel system (vacuum issues?)...and if so can I use the feed as the the return? To go 3/8's feed..will I have to weld in a new bung?..please tell me theres an easier way!
  8. Well to address the original question, I would go with the 383 hands down. Rollers are great for efficiency, idle quality and longetivity...BUT...almost 40 cubes is going to do more for you in this case. The 383 will give quite a bit more torque..especially down low and thats where you really feel it. The 383 should realistically outpower the 350 throughout the band (ESPECIALLY under 3500rpm) if its cammed correctly. Given a roller 350 and non-roller 383...aslong as they BOTH have the CORRECT cam...the 383 is going to be stronger. The bigger engine will allow you to make more power, with less rpm at the same compression than a smaller engine would. Nowwwww if you DO have a forged bottom, tight tolerances and good heads..you 'could' put a big roller in the 350 and spin it to 8000revs and make some serious power, alot more than the 383...but that wouldn't be a street car then Go 383 and be happy. Personally, if I had the money, I'd get a 400 and build a de-stroker 377. These rev-happy, high winding puppies would be absolutely WICKED in a 2600Lb car! Good Luck with whatever you do! 9. BLK Ride heigyht looks good to go. Looks like it would have sufficient clearance for a single 3" exhaust. What size are the rims and tires? How much for the coils?..do you have the entire struts in good shape, too? Shipping to 92021 [This message has been edited by Racin_Jason (edited March 16, 2001).]
  10. I havent ran across anything about this in the forums yet, so i thought I'd bring it up. As I was sitting in my new 240Z I got to playing with the doors and it became frighteningly clear that it wouldn't take much on an impact to put that door were I 'was' sitting. The door is featherlight and the metal is very thin. The thought of getting hit in the drivers door makes me shiver.. Has anyone ever fabbed an impact bar inside or concocted (sp?) some sort of reinforcement for these Datsun doors? The first thing that comes to mind is a cage but, me being 6'3" and WELL over 200Lbs..I dont think the door bar would be comfortable to say the least. Maybe theres an answer already..or maybe we can brainstorm and figure one out. Either way i dont want to end up a dead canned tuna in this thing! 11. Ok I'm going to upgrade the feed to a 3/8's and use the 5/16 as the return..is this ok? Do you have to weld a 3/8 bung or tube into the tank? Also where are the stock lines entering the tank, anyway?
  12. Hey BLK I've tryed two days in a row and I get an error everytime I click on your photo gallery. How bout postin some pics here?..or sending them via email. Drag_Race_Nut@hotmail.com P.S. You still have the 4piston kit available? Jason Hmm why wont the link in my sig work unless i edit my posts??? ------------------ 71 240Z soon to be 350'd 73 Camaro street/strip project w/490BBC,10-point cage..my "budget bully" 2000 F150 on 35's "DirtSlinger" have a look... http://www.JasonsHobbyShowcase.homestead.com/homepage.html "If speed kills..Im a DANGEROUS GUY!" >:^) [This message has been edited by Racin_Jason (edited March 15, 2001).]
  13. Ok ok...it looks like Im going to have to work some overtime and spring for heads. I read an article in CarCraft last night on the TrickFlow 23 degree aluminum heads..VERY tempting! They are $850 complete..compared to the $439 complete for the Vortecs. I'm going to have to discuss the finances with my father-in-law (he's partner in this project) because being able to eventually run .5 more compression on pumpgas AND save 50Lbs of the front end wold be nice. I will probably end up with a set of Vortecs in the end. Now I just have to get some books and read up on how to build the damn engine! Anyone wanna help?
  14. Can someone explain exactly what parts I need and from which year of which vehicle to do this upgrade? Is it a direct bolt on to the datsun spindles? After reading some of the responses..Im wondering if a fresh stock brake setup would be enough for my 350Z..maybe so BLK what do you have for sale and how much? (Im gonna go check the buy/sell area next so if its there..ignore me ) [This message has been edited by Racin_Jason (edited March 15, 2001).]
  15. Thanks for all the great info. 225's seem to be the most common answer for a 'safe' maximum. Now, the 225's are ONLY 24" tall tho. Can someoone suggest another size that would be taller, perform well AND still fit the stock wells, please? Im going to be running a th350 tranny and a 24" tall tire would be like 3400rpm at 70mph! OUCH Also, can we start posting cars with the size of rim and tire listed? I think that would be VERY helpful for anyone trying to choose a rim/tire combo Jason
  16. Thx for the responses guys. I've done some searching around and found the "Toyota 4piston upgrade". All the threads I read seem to jump al over the place tho..outlaw this and 5lug that. Can someone explain exactly what parts I need and from which year of which vehicle to do this upgrade? Is it a direct bolt on to the datsun spindles? Sorry if this is a rehash of info. I know the info is around the board already but its too mixed up and I'd just like info on the toyota caliper/disk swap..nothing fancy (read expensive). Any help would be appreciated! Jason
  17. If im reading that right Scottie..you are using the 5/16 as a return line and ran a -08 the whole length for a feed, correct? If i have to run all new lines Im not going to be able to afford braided..and Im not sure I trust aluminum tubing on a car thats so low. What do you guys think? Is there another alternative that is inexpensive and would be safer? I believe the stock line on my Camaro is 3/8 and it fed this 350 just fine.
  18. Davy You are right about the heads. They are the main barrier for making power on tihs engine. Im still not sure that they WONT work tho. They decode as having 2.02's (1.94's are possible but it looks like tbey are 2.02's!)..I'd like to get an opinion on what a cam swap might do for this engine if i was to keep the heads. If it put me above 300HP I'd go that route. So it sounds like you have about the same engine that i do. Is it your Z..and if so how does it run??? Anyone else care to comment on what i should do? [This message has been edited by Racin_Jason (edited March 14, 2001).]
  19. ellobo~ Thanks man. Dont let the sneaky pics fool ya tho..there is alot of work to do on this car. It will serve its purpose for what i want it for but its still gonna cost me abit to get it solid and safe. Things like all new bushings throughout, new r200, new coils, rims and tires..ching ching cha-ching. It'll be worth it tho and should be a fun little pocket rocket for maybe a total of 1500 bucks..? Ok maybe 2000...err 2500?? These forums make me want to do ALOT to it, thats for sure! Take care, Jason
  20. Hi gang, I've just gona on along trip through the search archives..and Ive ended up in confused-ville. I found LOTs of info on 240z's WITH coilovers..and flares..and both. Yet, I cant find any info on what options there are for STOCK or lowered Z's with STOCK struts. Im assuming a 7" wide wheel is the max. Is 245 series the max also? I want the car to ride decently (for a Z), corner decently to good and HOOK UP decently with a 350. Im looking for the max tire size that will fit both front and back (different sizes is ok) with a good bit of sidewall for a bit of cushion. I like the look of the oldschool roadrace Z's with 14" rims and maybe 60 series tires that tuck into the wells (like ol #10 in the MSA catalog on the rims page). What sizes and brands would give me what Im looking for? Would Nitto drag radials in back be a good idea?..or will they lack in cornering to much? I see some members have had VERY good luck with these at the dragstrip.. I'm open to new ideas and any and all opinions. Just keep in mind that this car has to be done on the CHEAP..I'm just looking for help on getting the best performance for my dollar. Thanks much Jason
  21. GrayZee that link is AWESOME! I've been looking for something thats simple and accurate such as that for along time. THANKS ALOT! Jason Now I have to go cry because my predictions of high RPM at freeway speeds with a th350 3speed auto are MORE than justified...anyone want to donate a 200r-4 or 700r-4 to a needy recipient?? Im a nice guy...really
