Greetings Parts Trader is a weekly publication put out by the same folks that produce Auto Trader, Truck Trader and House Trader. Im not sure if they are available in your area, but any convenience store would have them. The Parts Traders can be rarer Ive noticed. If you see the "traders" in your area, it'll just be a matter of time until you find the one you are looking for. Good luck, Jason

That place is right down the street from where i live! Are these guys respected by your GN friends Scotty? I actually have two 700r4's that need to be rebuilt and Im looking for a god shop that wont screw me over. Jason

I'll chime in with praise aswell. I had a BIG stereo built for professional competition years back (miracle ear..here i come). This system, with the stock battery, killed 3 alternators within 6 months After that I ran a redtop optima for a year with no failures. i could flat ROCK beach partys for 2 hours with it before i would need to charge it.It would start right up..Id make a store run to charge it up..come back and ROCK IT for another 2 hours. Highly recommended! Jason

OK, thanks guys. I thought about glassing over some headlight covers as soon as i saw it. Dan Juday~ Thanks for the link. The kit looks to be the one i saw from the MSA show. I couldnt even find their address tho and they look kinda chincy. The kit looks like what i want tho. Anyone on the board have a filled light kit they wanna sell me cheap? Hey gang, I was looking through the MSA pics and there were a couple cars ( they were grey and white) that had the stock headlight locations completely filled in. The white one had 4 square headlamps where the grille would be. I LIKE THAT LOOK! Are the fenders aftermarket with the buckets filled in or is this custom body work? I would really like to have my 71 done that way if its not to costly. Jason

Well a few points to make about your possible purchase.. If the engine is basically a stock 1978 350 with a 4bbl carb and maybe a cam, its whats called a smogger engine. These engines have poor heads and low compression and generally make small power (by V8 standards). If you are looking for an engine that makes fairly big power, this engine would probably be fine for rebuilding with the right parts to meet your desired power levels. Just understand that if it is indeed a smogger engine from '78..you are probably looking at 180-210HP and maybe 200-250TQ, if its in good shape. These number might be alittle higher if its got an aftermarket cam in it. This WILL move the light Z car with authority, but will be nothing like a mild built 350 making say 350HP. On the th350, these transmissions are proven to be solid and reliable behind engines producing 400+HP when built correctly, and can handle a fair amount of abuse in even stock form when in a light car such as our Z's. They do however have an issue that you need to consider. Because the available finar gears for our cars are on the high side, the NON overdrive th350 will put your engine at around 3000-3400 rpm at freeway speeds..depending on which rear gear and tire height you have. This is not so good for gas mileage, comfort (read LOUD exhaust) or extra engine wear due to higher revs for extended periods of time. The 700r is the overdrive version of the th350 and will drop your freeway RPM's by almost 1000 revs. Many members report 20mpg or better with the 700r tranny. They ARE more expensive to buy and build/modify...but if you have the funds, I would say they are well worth it. I, like you, have a 350 with a th350 combo already. I will probably use the th350 until I can save up and find a deal on a 700r. There is a wealth of knowledge available on these forums. Using the search function will most likely find the info you need to answer 80% of your questions. It works great for me! I'm just starting my first hybrid Z now so we are in the same boat Best of Luck! Jason

Dave, I looked everywhere on your site and I could only find one hazy pic from behind the seats forward that kinda shows the quicksilver. Could you please direct me to the pics or post them here? Sorry if I missed em..but I cant find them!

I'd like to add a question to that. Who makes the lowest (least all) auto shifter? I have a Hurst in my Z now and it looks like a TOWER on that little tranny tunnel. thanks

Wangan Midnite Movie Copies
Racin_Jason replied to Owen's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Clint~ You must be talking about Redline...the Supra movie? A friend of mine knows both the owners of the cars they used and the producer of the movie. He said it didn't turn out as the racers expected it and the owners were disappointed. I also read that they used a sinister black Dodge Charger in the movie with an "obviously fake" 6-71 or 8-71 blower sticking out of the hood...and I guess the imports are spanking it. YEA RIGHT..that alone keeps my money in my pocket and out of their profits. Dont get me wrong...I respect ANYTHING thats fast. But dont try and take an old muscle car guy like myself and expect me to believe (or even be entertained..) by a boosted 3.0L supposidly wasting a huffed BB. I mean..you can bend the truth, but dont twist it like a pretzel -

Ever think about reinforcing these paper thin doors? T-bone=
Racin_Jason replied to Racin_Jason's topic in Body Kits & Paint
lol Richard..you have a point there. Im a fairly big guy myself at 6'3" and WELL in excess of 200lbs. I cant imagine trying to get over a door bar with THAT tiny door opening and the steering wheel. If I do end up doing a cage I'll do a swing out door bar for sure.. -
Scottie, I have a QuickSilver in my Camaro and Ive used it for along time. Ratchet shifters are GREAT for racing auto-cars. Mine has been very solid and accurate for years. Once the cable is adjusted correctly they are basically foolproof. On mine you lift the whole handle to get into and out of the forward gears. I just lift it from park all the way down to first and it will STAY there til I hit it. In your case (dragracing) its really a "gotta-have" item. Just simplifies the gear banging so your can concentrate on your shift points, etc. As for being absolutely SURE its in first..you will be. Just pull the release and drop the stick to the bottom of the gate and when it cant go any further, you are in first..period (ofcoarse unless you have a reverse valve-bodied tranny) You'll be happy with one I bet. The most popular with we muscle guys is the Pro-Ratchet..but you really cant go wrong with any B&M stuff. Good luck ------------------ 71 240Z soon to be 350'd 73 Camaro street/strip project w/490BBC,10-point cage..my "budget bully" 2000 F150 on 35's "DirtSlinger" have a look... http://www.JasonsHobbyShowcase.homestead.com/homepage.html "If speed kills..Im a DANGEROUS GUY!" >:^) [This message has been edited by Racin_Jason (edited March 25, 2001).]

403HP would give you roughly 330Hp at the wheels. Im assuming about 18% drivetrain loss. Also, with GM cast heads and that cam I think 400HP is pushing it a bit. Jason

Boy he's not giving up much on that deal. I checked quickly hoping for a good deal but its only 5 bucks off (minus shipping) for a used manual thats 3 years old..i'll pass i think. Is this 1998, 7th edition the current available manual from JTR?

I faintly remember someone saying that Powertrax was going to make a locker for the R200 sometime soon. Maybe someone can confirm if I was just having a nice dream..?

Racin_Jason replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Oh I know the feeling well..sigh Through the years of building my Camaro I've spent MANY thousands at Jegs...the operators on nightshift answered the phone "Jasoooon...so whats the 73 need this time bro?..." Aint caller ID a great thing? -
