  1. Do I know you? You know Robert?
  2. Yes. I work at a shop. My welds aren't the prettiest, but the are just as strong as any other welder.
  3. I'm dead set on twins. I "only" want about 550rwhp, though. I realize I'll have to use about 25 or more psi to get my power level on them, I think.
  4. I actually don't want them. I had a z31 not too long ago, I hid the title from myself because I knew that I would never want to sell it. Well, I ended up trying to sell it and couldn't find the title for a while. Once I found the title and the deal was done, my heart sat a little low for a loooong time. Now I feel great , even though it's sitting behind my shop in poor condition. So even though I regret selling that Z, if I hadn't... I wouldn't have gotten this...
  5. Still, I'm scared to get married... :ohnoes:
  6. Thanks BWRex, it should be a "fun" and ... "educating" experience, since I've never done rust repair before. But I have a whole bunch of people at the shop that know their stuff. Sparky, how do you know of this car? Also, the spare tire space and rear deck lid of the car are truly rust free, it's awesome.
  7. Yes, the Mitsu turbos seem like an excellent option as compared to spending 2400 on GT28RS's. Even with as much as I hate Mitsubishi...
  8. EDIT: It's a '72, I keep forgetting! I'm in love despite all the rust I've found. Bought it for $500. I had a 80% complete interior, but I ripped it all out and threw most of it away before taking these pictures. I kept the dash and a few other items. Doglegs are bad. Battery tray is bad. At least the passenger floorboard is bad. LF headlight and fender has been wrecked before. Other than that it's nice. The spare tire and trunk area has no rust (yet?). Worth the $500. I ripped the L24 out today, and removed most of the engine bay wiring. Making way for a VG30E+TT and megasquirt. More images at: www.blozup.com/images
  9. ...and the stock Z31 computer will go into open loop and just drop fuel like there's no tomorrow when you go passed a certain throttle level, thus contributing to crappy mileage.
  10. 2 disco potatoes for my vg30et? won't go single, so dont suggest it. but it seems that the expensive disco potatoe would fit half of a 3 litre perfect... for 550hp... yea, nea?
  11. That's a TON of timing in boost. I had my VG30ET at 20 degrees around peak, maybe 22 otherwise at low boost (12psi), high boost was around 15 (15-20psi)). 390hp, 450tq.
  12. with no or little load, I would get it at 14.7 at the LEAST, if not leaner. AE is very iffy, and I have had more success with MAPdot rather than the TPS based one. Also, I doubt your car would be really running well if it hit 20 or less to 1. Can you feel it jerk or does it go smooth? Do you have a wideband?
  13. you're from trs, pusher. i now own a '71 240z. and am a MS guru. that is all.
  14. I had my VG30 in my 50th AE z31 with custom manifolds. the turbo was in front, right in front of the water pump. Tons of clearance on the driver's side after I did that, I plan on doing something similar when I get an s30.
  15. Yeah, it's pretty much a myth. If you're going turbo, then it definately doesn't matter.
  16. MAF and AFM are the same thing...
  17. Cesar Febus! I was just reading about him in my turbonetics catalog today.
  18. It has been done, but there is little room. It is also a very costly swap, and in the end you could have done all your handling and performance to VG30ET for the same amount of money.
  19. I'm going to be doing this swap, that is, a vg30et into a 240z, as soon as i can find a 240z. A custom exhaust manifold I can do, as well as intake. Doesn't seem difficult at all. I can't wait to put out the same power as my z31 in the 240.
  20. wow! peak torque at 4k rpms? When do you hit full boost? I had my peak at 4600 on my t3/t4 stg 3, .63, 57 trim. I cannot remember when I hit full boost, probably about the same time or earlier.
  21. You're going to need to ditch the stock computer to get over 300hp reliably, and with any remotely decent fuel mileage and tuneability. The Megasquirt info thread on this site works extremely well for the VG as most of the wiring is the same for it and the l28et. I ran megasquirt n' spark with much success on my '84 300zx turbo. I also have free access to a dyno, so it all worked out. How much boost? I ran 18psi, making 390rwhp, and 440rwtq on some shitty, unresurfaced heads that were leaking coolant into the combustion chambers. I had hit 22psi in some brief dyno pulls, but the car was very hard to tune at that level because of the leaky chambers. There are a handful of people running over 20psi all day long. You are also going to need alot of fuel. I had shitty DSM 450cc's at 45 psi base pressure. I hit 100% duty cycle (I ran out of fuel, basically) at about 22 psi. I should have just gotten some 800cc injectors.
  22. holy ****, I never thought anyone would ask...
