Hello im planning on buying a l28et but motor shops ask to much for them. I stay in los angeles area not looking for anything with mods just stock motor even if has blown head gaskets. Im willing to trade my l28e out of my 76 if anybody is interested in that let me know. Thanks chris

the car did smoke with the old trnasmission but very little until it completely gave out. I took my raidiator cap off n turn the car on the smoke did seem to be less but not much of a diffrence and no bubbles in the coolant. But I did notice my brake fluid level wen down n my pedal feels much softer now bad brake booster? Causing the greyish white smoke

well my brakes are good and i don't think that would be the problem the car is still siting i only drove it once to check the new trany and this was about a month ago. but at first it was more white and now its has more of a grayish look to it

but thats only with a automatic transmission I believe I now have a manual

Hello names chris I have a 76 280z that I recently did a trany swap from a auto to manual my old auto transmission gave out so i decided to go manual. now my problem is my car is throwing white/grayish smoke at idle its very low but once i step on the gas a cloud comes out. the car has been siting for about 6months and would turn it on here and there. I check my plugs and no oil on them as well as my oil hasn't gone down. my radiator also hasn't lost any coolant. I did a few searches and i came across one that says auto tranys after they give out some fluid can be suck into the manifold causing the smoke is this true? thanks for the help

Looking for a 4speed shift lever recently did a trany swap on my 280z and the shifter lever hits the center console and i don't wanna go through the trouble of heating n bending zip code is 90280

miles on the car are at 78380 original miles so they are pretty low. But a new motor is one of my option might as well go wit a l28et if it comes to that point but if its a quick fix then ill put money into it

Hello my name is chris im pretty new with z's so bare with me. I bought my z October last year its a 76 280z, when i drove it home that day the car was fine. About a month later the car was sitting wile i was working on the paper work and getting my license my tranny suddenly gave out it wouldn't go into reverse for a wile but it would go on drive. Then it completely took a sh**t. So maybe about twice a week i would turn on the car let it run for a wile and i notice it started trowing some white smoke nothing big but some and i didn't think much about it i just thought well maybe just its because the car has been siting for a wile. OK so 2 days ago i swap my tranny i went from auto to 5speed n everything went great took me about 5 hours thanx to my uncle. So now to my q's i read up on the reasons for white smoke and theirs a few for example blown head gasket, oil rings, valve seals n so on. But I did read up on some guy having the same problem his transmission was going bad and started trowing white smoke form the exhaust do to i believe pressure causing some fluid going into the combustion chamber is this true? Also at idle it doesn't trow smoke only when i step on the gas. Well i just wanted to get your guys opinion on this and where should i start first on figuring out the reason for the white smoke. Sorry for writing allot.

Whats up guys a few weeks ago my temp gauge wasn't working. At first I thought I just had a bad connection so I cleaned all the plugs but still no luck. So them after I went ahead and check the water temp sensor and found this the loose cable seem to becoming from what I believe is the water temp switch but im not sure. If you look closely you will see 2 small green spots were looks like cables were coming out of. I was over on zcar.com and I came across this thread but on the pics I didn't see that screw that I have the arrow pointing at. http://www.zcar.com/forums/702926/280z-question-newb
