  1. I thought I had read somewhere to mount it upside down... yep I did! here's the link: http://www.ideal-z.com/howto/240sx-tb.htm
  2. Can anyone tell me where I can order "steel" panels for a 71 Datsun 510?
  3. BTW you have the "L jetronic system"
  4. I've found this site to be full of answers. Hope it helps! http://persweb.direct.ca/aschwenk/earlyefi.htm
  5. My buddy wanted to put one in his 79 pu and he came across this site: http://www.ford-trucks.com/articles/5liter.html Maybe this would help??
  6. If you are going with a P90 the F54 block is the only one you should be looking at because it is the one designed for it. You see the P90 has a very large combustion chamber volume and the only way to get reasonable compression out of it it to use flattop pistons (the F54 block) The P90 is a good turbo application but for a naturaly asprirated engine a more desirarble combo might be to use different head on a F54 block that way you can get some higher compression ratios However if you did want to use a different head you'd have to consider other things like valve size (some heads have smaller valves but can be swapped for larger valves and seats) Another thing to consider is that some heads have round exhaust ports (so you'd want the manifold or header to match) I'm just telling you your options but understanding that you have a rebuilt P90 already if just wanna find a block to match it go with the F54. I'll give you some links for interesting reading on the subject and a cool download for engine combos. http://www.ideal-z.com/downloads.htm http://www.zcluboftexas.org/l28combo.htm http://www.mindspring.com/~blittl/engine.html http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Track/6997/ BTW I believe the place to find a F54 would be a 81-83 280zx [This message has been edited by GrayZee (edited April 01, 2001).]
  7. Ok here's the story, I know this guy who put a 350 in a 240 (he did a bit of a hack job if you ask me) anyway now he says he's gonna put the L6 back in cuz he is tired of wiping out oil pans. Well I was just wondering, is this a problem you guys have run into or what's the story? Did he mount the engine too close to the ground or is there a swallow pan that should be used?

    SDS which one to buy?

Discount? That's great!! Does HybridZ get discounts anywhere else?? I was thinking of buying some stuff from Motorsport.
  9. Sorry don't know of any places in or near Austrailia but I can tell you of one in Canada and one in the US, The Canadian site is: http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html The US site is www.zcarparts.com I know that the US place (motorsport)charges a whopping $750usd for the Gnose kit alone! I don't know the price from the Canadian place but the exchange rate is alot better!
  10. First of all, make sure that your engine is well tuned, take it to someone who knows Z's. You'd be amazed how much horsepower you can lose by having your carbs out of sync slightly! As for modifications probably the best single improvement you can make is to open up the exhaust, maybe headers and a 2.25 or 2.5 inch pipe. Also if you could manage to get your hands on a set of the old style carbs (72 and under) that would also be a good thing. Of course there is no end to the modifications you can make to a Z, but that is part of the fun! : )
  11. Thanks for all of the replies folks, I would also like to ask what would be involved in installing one of these diffs in a 280z. What kind of shafts to use? flanges? or perhaps custom modifications are required?
  12. I would imagine that the bolts are the same but you are right (can never be too sure) If the parts guy at your local nissan dealer can spare a minute ask him to check to see if the part numbers are the same. If they are not I'm sure you can find some flywheel bolts, if you can't let me know. I'm sure I got a few sets kickin around.. : )
  13. it would be interesting to know the weight difference, do you know the weight of your car now? take it to a truckstop with a scale and check it out.. just a suggestion, I'm sure a few people might like to know how many pounds you lost. : )
  14. The independant front diff from the early 80's 4x4's looks like the rear diff of a Z, however it has a 4.38 ratio : ) Anyone ever heard of doing this? I imagine that since it is mounted backwards it is designed to run backwards? if so would there be a oiling problem? Thanks for any input.
  15. I used to have a 81 buick century station wagon (body rusted to hell) but the engine went so I threw in a 350-4barrel from a early 70's camaro. It shocked a few people, imagine if it was built up a bit (or maybe alot!) : ) Fairly easy to pull off.. unless you wanted something more exotic? How bout a "wayne's world" amc pacer? complete with portable cd player mounted on the dash. LOL
  16. Cool video, makes me want a V8, I hope the guy in the Miata wasn't trying to race him! Well if he was, I bet he got a big surprise LMAO!
  17. none of the "Z" model cars came with power windows, only the "ZX" (79 and up) had them and they are not compatable. I'm sure you could make a power window system with some patience though.. (maybe one of those universal systems?) As for the 260/280 doors bolting up, they will.. however there are some differences the way the inner door handles (grab bar) bolts in is different. For sure you'd want to use the door panels for the same door. Also the later 280's I believe have a different latching mechanism.
  18. This site should answer your question: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/
  19. Obviously if one of the vehicles is and 2+2 and one isn't, there are parts that won't swap. IE, hatch t-tops ect. But on the whole with a 80's ZX you will find that more parts that will interchange than parts that wont.
  20. Ok can anyone out there name a a vehicle that originaly came with a aluminum rad and electric fan that would swap into a Z with relative ease? (I had thought of a VW rabbit but I don't imagine that would cool enough) B.T.W. I only need to cool a L28.
  21. Well you guys are right that the dual pickup is for the automatic, but I have read that they also came on the 1975 models. Why my 76 has one I don't know.. I do know my car has a low digit serial number for a 76. I have thought of trying to take advantage of it somehow by having two different timing settings, but I don't know much about the effect of different timing settings to tune for performance.
  22. I got a 76z with dual pickup coils and someone has changed the tranny to a 5spd from a newer zx. So there is no switch to control the dual system. The question is what effect will this have on the car? What exactly does the dual system do anyway? is it good for performance or just a emission thing? Perhaps it can be modified for performance?
  23. I've read a lot of stories about hopped up V8's in Zcars but my question is how much of a power gain could I expect if I was to install a stock 305 with quadrajet carb in a 76z?
