Apparently, I forgot to specify that it's a 78 280Z. Also, I also forgot to mention that my 300ZX was wrecked back in 2011.
Now, the reason it's so sensible is because I have most of the parts it needs to run, and drive. All I will have to make are a new shift lever, new motor and transmission mounts, and then have a drive shaft made with the Z32 slip yoke and 280Z rear flange. It will also cost me less money to just get it running than with the L28, since the car had a lot of expensive parts missing. I will also try to retain the original mounting points, to enable me to swap the original motor back into it very quickly. My VG30DE / 5-speed combo are still solid, and will need very little work to get running.
I promise you it will cost you more than getting a L28 running again.

Why not just drive the Z32?
Putting a VG30DE in a 240z is pretty silly.

Yeah, I don't understand the wing on an NA car that you are talking about mileage for, I would have sold that to a Honda kid right off . If you lose that and do some of the normal drag clean up that the high speed guys do, you can get a lot better fuel economy.Do you have a pic of the front of the car so I can see what openings there are still up front? Just curious about how much more you can de-drag the front.
What does the method of induction matter concerning wings?

Sooooo clean.

Pics as promised:
It is actually way simpler than I thought to get the miata seats in. I just got one in because I still needed time to work on my motorcycle (four carbs suck).
I'll probably put the drivers seat in next weekend. They will have to come out again when I put in carpet. Plan is to have most of, if not all of the interior done by the end of summer. I want to put in a modest sound system, sound deadening, carpet, dash cap and a full gauge swap. Haven't decided which gauges I'm going to do, but I'm leaning towards Autometer Phantoms.

I emailed Mckinney Motorsports yesterday showing my support for the VH45DE into the S30 Chassis and I got this response:
"We will be working on it late summer"If they put out a swap kit for it, I WILL buy it. The VH45DE is an awesome V8.

Ill update with some pics this weekend. More interior work to be done.

"Timing i can't even get done accurately since the car idles and runs, spits, like crazy . seems like it the problem is aiming toward a boost leak problem; however,"
A boost leak is not the cause of a car spitting at idle.
You even said it yourself, after using a leak tester you found there to be no leak.

If someone was to make and sell vg30 motor mounts into a s30 i would buy them.

I've only heard bad things from datsun parts llc.
-
I think if SOMEONE (HINT HINT) would make a swap kit, this swap would be way more popular.

Msa lights arent even close to these.

Good ole datsun parts llc.
-
Damn that looks good.

Why are you taking all of that out? To fix the front cover?

My next set of wheels will be the XXR 521, hopefully in 16x9, I say go for it.

I couldn't tell, but did the throttle hang on the first blip?

I think those look awesome, what brand?

Sounds great.

As far as I know you aren't supposed to reuse stock headbolts as they stretch out.

I didn't know 280zx's were carb'd nor that Nissan quality was so poor on carb'd vehicles that duplicating near oe quality would result in poor reliability.
"something along the lines of Z Therapy carbs.."
If you really want to give up the reliability of a modern Toyota as a daily driver, be my guest. But it will simply not be as reliable or comfortable for daily driving.

You want to use a car from the 80s with carbs to commute around Texas with good MPG and reliability?
I think you are looking at the wrong car.
