  1. Thanks John. I had read the GCR but was looking for the best, legal set up to meet those requirements.
  2. What are people running for rear brakes on Z cars racing in E Production?
  3. I'm road racing a 240z in Vintage/Historic and need to replace the brakes pads (F & R). By class limitations I still have drums in back. What pad / shoe combination has anyone had good luck with?
  4. Toyo RA1 or Nitto NT01. Same compound (Nitto is made by/owned Toyo) and they last a very log time. Ive raced on the Tyoys and am trying the Nittos this season. Shave the toyos to 4/32 for long life for 2/32 for faster lap times. You will not be as fast as pure slick and slightly slower than new Hoosiers. but if price is a key issue its a reasonable trade off. I used to race Spec Miata and when they tried to change the spec tire from RA1s to R888 everyone rejected it. Few thought the R888s were as good.
  5. Agree with 30 For DOT R compounds go with Toyo RA1s. Full tread for lots of wear or shave them to 4/32nds for a more aggressive grip. They grip well and will stick until they cord. For true street tires the Dunlop Star Spec or Falken Azenis RT-615s. Close but not as good grip wise but they wear much better.
  6. Nice job. Lacking the fabrication skills many of you had I started with a kit from S&W Racing http://www.swracecars.com/store/Dashboard-Kit-with-Tach-and-4-Gauge-Panel-OSCARItem_184=95-110-4.aspx The biggest issue was cutting int the right shape as the dash out of the box is extremely large. Finished result isn't bad with the help of textured paint.
  7. SCCA rules of EP say you can replace rear drum brakes with rear discs with several limitation that likely put more aftermarket brakes out of spec. Has anyone replaced the rears with EP legal discs ans what did you use?
  8. What do you want the car to do? Street only? Autocross or HPDE? I agree with the comment about fixing things first before looking at enhancements. The question then is what to do with the left over funds. If you are going to do anything competitive with the car I'd invest in brakes and suspension first. Most drivers have more HP than they need in a stock car to drive a good handling well braked car. Getting a solid base car allow you plenty of room to up power later as your driving skills improve.
  9. If you are fabbing a cover for the cell and wants an access door this might help. http://www.swracecars.com/store/Fuel-Door-Kit-OSCARItem_165=05-010.aspx
  10. Here is another option http://www.fuelsafe.com/store/ed115.html Also, keep in mind that if in the future you do want to race the car the cell needs to be isolated from the driver's compartment. The set up above would never pass tech.
  11. I've patched most of the holes in the bottom of my race car with Aluminum Tape. Next I was thinking of painting over the whole floor with POR 15. Will it stick to the tape? Has anyone every done this before?
