California Department of Consumer Affairs Bureau of Automotive Repair
Laws and Regulations dated May 12, 2010
Health and Safety Code section 44011 "Certificate of compliance or non-compliance; biennial requirement; exemptions; inspections; exemptions from testing for collector motor vehicles."
(subsection C) - All motor vehicles exempted by this paragraph shall be subject to testing and to certification requirements as determined by the department, if any of the following apply:
[paraphrasing the three sub, sub sections)
i) Evidence of tampering through remote sensing, visual inspection, other means,
ii) Vehicle previously registered out of state,.
iii) Vehicle selected for testing via 44014.7 or any other provision of this chapter authorizing inspection.
Is that enough evidence for you or do you need to be spoon fed some more?
No. What you just copied and pasted is from section (4) of the 44011 which pertains to "all motor vehicles four or less model-years old."

Tony D is gonna burn you.
Our 72's are only exempt from biannual inspection, not from following any laws about smog. Common misconception.
Show me where it states this from the BAR or DMV. I've heard plenty of people state this, with zero documentation backing it up.

My car is a 72 and completely smog exempt here in Cali. Who cares if you get pulled over and questioned? Anything I do to my car is legal because there is no smog law for it.
"Effective 04/01/05: Under the old law, 1975 and subsequent model year vehicles became exempt from Smog Check when they turned 30 years old. A 1976 model year vehicle was exempt in 2005, a 1977 in 2006, etc. Under the new law... commenced April 1, 2005, exempt from smog check requirements are any motor vehicle manufactured prior to the 1976 model year. All vehicles 1976 and newer vehicles will be tested according to state emission law. This law repeals the 30-year rolling exemption."
"Thanks for taking a look at my car officer, and you have a nice day now"

Go buy a CFB alternator. Done.

I knew someone else saw the elusive pallet eating gnome!
Runs around in a mid 70's early 80's domestic pickup with pallet walls on the bed, expired tag and those bhrama bull stickers on each door.
Beware, beware of the pallet bandito!
Substitute 'Pallet' for Fritos Corn Chips:
HAHAHAHA!!!! So true dude! LOL!

Is there supposed to be a picture or something?

LMAO at Pedro the Woodsman! hahahaha!

It's about 180 lbs, pretty sure not that it's not over 200. Will you be in town on Fri? I actually have that day off. Otherwise, I don't get out of work until about 7pm, and I work in Sunnyvale. I'll try to give you a call tonight or tomorrow, thanks again for the offer, very awesome of you
Call me on Friday. I am available then for you to pick it up.
-
And always put a copy of the shipping info inside the crate/box. The guy that shipped me a transmission only put a label on the outside which quickly tore off and my crate got routed to over goods (lost in space).
YES!
-
My guy will ship the crate estimated at 200 pounds, 3x3x3, and a delivery address of NYC (just to get a quote) for $200.
We get a discounted rate since we ship so much stuff with them.
-
Nice. Well the crate I have is roughly a 3x3x3 cube with wheels on it. Comes with custom cut foam that you could cut yourself to work with the engine. Let me know if you want to come pick it up. Call or email me. I am only in town until Friday, then I leave for business travel for 3 weeks.
For shipping I can get you a quote from a logistics company I know based out of Hayward. They ship large trade show displays for me all the time so they specialize in palletized and crated shipments. They would pick up from your house and deliver to wherever.
How much does the motor weigh?
The crate is located in Livermore at my work so just hit me up if you wanna come get it...

Send me the dimensions of the motor. I might have a shipping crate with locking wheels you can have if the engine will fit.

Nice! Congrats!

I am about 300 miles from LA. I never planned on selling it, and haven't even really thought about it until right now, but I would probably be willing to let my car go for the right price...
.1972 Datsun 240Z
.All numbers matching
.3rd owner. Car is an all original California Z, born in So Cal raised in Nor Cal.
.2.4L with all original parts
.120K miles
.Automatic
.Very Clean Interior
.MINOR rust, some surface rust where the are a couple paint chips on the driver door.
The car runs and drives just about every day as long as it's not raining. I was planning on doing a V8 Swap and full restoration, but I realize how rare these cars are in the state mine is in, all original and clean. There are obviously some imperfections in the body, but seeing at the car is 40 years old, I think it looks pretty nice!
If you are interested please give me a call or shoot me an email. I would like to try and get around $6,500 for my car...

He has always been very quick to respond to my emails and calls. Weird.

thank you so much for the advice, i live in Milpitas, California. i was thinking if rust spot like that i can get fenders and doors from other Z cars from 70-77? i've double check the only rust problem is the exterior panels, no frame damage, it does have factory A/C, E31 cylinder head, everything is original including the spare tire hahaha. With this all been said do you guys still think the car worth it? thanks
Be patient. I found a completely rust free 72 240Z in Santa Clara for $2,800. Runs perfect, perfect interior, and zero rust. Gotta just wait and search like I did for about 3 years before I finally bought mine.

And, at the end of the day, if you searched and researched enough, you could easily find the answer to all of those questions. Try searching google like so, I've found that it works better than anything else:
ls1 swap +a/c +heater +p/s (or whatever search terms in whatever way you want) site:hybridz.org
The "site:hybridz.org" is the crucial part. This directs google to search only within that domain, giving you the power and flexibility of Google search indexing but narrowed down to a particular site. Not sure if you knew this trick-- IMO it's the best thing Google offers and is the only reason I still use Google search more than DuckDuckGo, for example.
This.

Fuel Cell so I can run dual exhaust (V8)
You will be fine with modifying the stock tank since you are going L28ET.
-
Yay. Some actual useful information in this thread. Thanks gents!!!

I know you've been a member for a while, but you really should try searching dude. Every question you asked has been answered on this forum MULTIPLE times.

Your interior looks awesome!
-
Nice dude! Looks sweet.
You planning on having it custom dyno tuned? If so let us know the numbers. Thanks.

I'm necroposting but it was my thread anyway.
Here it is, the FULL fiberglass S30:
Showing that all the 240Z parts have been discontinued.

Wouldn't a -44 offset be tucked into the fenders pretty far? Since you have the ZG flare I assume you could go with something more aggressive?

Wrong. The portion you highlighted is section (3) has nothing to do with section (4) which is what I mentioned above.
All section (3) states is what everybody already knows. Cars manufactured older than 1976 are exempt from a biannual smog test.
Is it really that difficult to understand the CVC? All the information is there if you take the time to read it correctly and actually understand it.
I have 3 friends who all own California test only smog shops.
If a CHP pulls you over and says you have to go to a state ref do you have to comply? Absolutely. Guess what's gonna happen when you get to the state ref or test only station? They will verify your VIN to the officer and say, just like my friends have said to muitple poilice officers... under the new law, commenced April 1, 2005, exempt from smog check requirements are any motor vehicle manufactured prior to the 1976 model-year.
