ok guys, i got the answers i needed to make up my mind. i will stick to my ori hubs and find the right offset rims. no reason doing more mods to get suck little returns.. i need to shave off 2 1/4" of spacers from my hub to my rim!!! thank yall. -
Different hub offsets?
Z-Monster replied to ZD44TT's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
does this mean that i can install z31 hubs into my hgs130 (280zx) and run a more positive offset rim??? that also means running less spacers then i have now. will the z31 hub bolt right on?? -

weak ball joints!!!
Z-Monster replied to Z-Monster's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I am seriously thinking of getting the ball joints from Victoria British aka Black Dragon. Are they any good? i am sourcing for Ori Nissan ones but am unable to get them this side of the globe. finding parts for me is a real problem as there are only a handfull of old school Z's in malaysia. of the top my head there are like 2 240z's, one 260z, and something like 5 280zx's. There obviously isnt any aftermarket support. my other option is to ask one of yall to ship me a set of NAPA BJ's... -
Hey Bro, I have a friend who has the ITB from a stock RB26DETT. i think he is willing to sell it off cheap. The only problem is that I liev in Malaysia and you are in the states... i will have to ship to you via postal service. let me know your zip and i will find out the cost to you if its worth your while. thanx. weak ball joints!!!
Z-Monster replied to Z-Monster's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
thanks for the input guys... i'm using japanese ball joints... thriple 5 is the brand "555" thay seem to be the most widely used here in malaysia and seems to be the best brand. i think i need to start buying from the states. -
hi guys, i ahve a serious ball joint problem.. wondering if yall are facing the same problem.... i seem to be replacing balljoints ever month!!!! i use my car daily and its a 280zx. the one and only reason i forsee such a problem reoccuring is due to the fact that i'm running 2 1/4" spacers to compansate my wrong offset rims. the spec on my rims are as follows... 17" x 8 x 5 lug 114.3 offset 34mm. i know you guys are running -6 offset for 280zx's... pls advice... thank you, Kevin

hey guys.. thank yall so much for the complements and encouragement. i missmatch my rims simple to gain profile on my tyres..... as i am running 16's in front and 17's at the back. reason i do this if for drivability and comfort as malaysian roads are famous for having instant pot holes. i have a full set of both rims. its just that this is my daily driver and i have a special bond to it.. i hate getting anything loose or bent. anyways, the front rims are BBS 2 pc rims and the rears are a a japanese set of rims with no brand and i cannot tell of what origin. they are 17x9 at the rears and 17x7.5 up front. i forget their offset so as to not provide the wrong info i will refrain from saying. i have lotsa custom parts in my car the strut tower bars are one of them.. i designed and my formen welded everything together... i have custom shock all round. hi-low adjustable as well as a custome fitted rb26 intake manifold if it doesnt look too obvious. i have stiffened the chassis heap by adding tubular 1 1/4 inch chromolly tubes along my chassis (front fenders all the way to the rear... all hidden.. no roll cage.. not necessary as my car is super stiff from lots of seam welds and custom interior bars... not seen in pictures. i also fabed up camber plates with pillow ball mount bushes securing the shock towers. tha about cover it. ask away guys if there is anything i can help, you all know where to find me.

hi guys, i have been in and out of this forum for the past 1 1/2 years stealing ideas and knowledge from yall... hahahah and i owe it to alot of yall for getting my 280zx daily driver to the stage it is in now. it might not have as much bling to it as yall might like but its very functional. i drive this car everyday and i use to have a big turbo set up on it untill the i saw my fuel meter dropping as quickly as i accelerated. i have bolted the standard turbine beck on and will be hitting the dyno today. before anything blows on my baby this evening i figured i'd post her current beauty up now for all your imputs and all my hard work. i present to yall z-monster!!!!

What is the fastest you have gone in your Z?
Z-Monster replied to fbomb's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
i hadnt toped out yet but 150 racing an evo 6 who lost as his max was only 145mph.... i have custom shocks, and a standard rb25det at that time... have yet to go that fast again... not safe... car rode fine.. and i had another 700 rpm to go before rev limmiter. -
i have variable pressure depending on the RPM... at stand still if i rev my car to the limiter...7000 rpm the gauge on my fuel press meter shows a leap from 38psi to 43psi... i'm guessing there is a huge diffeenc when the car is on the road and driving. so it does go up to as high a psi the engines requires... the only week link i see is my fuel pump!!! i as you all already nkow am using a 4.6l N/A jaguar v8 pump.
-
i'm running on a jaguar 4.6L V8 Bosch fuel pump. the problem is that the fuel pump is a N/A engine pump and i have heard that there is a difference in n/a as well as turbo engine pumps.... i hav eahd no problems with it while running 0.4 bar of boost with my fuel press regualtor before... i would have though that this pump should suffice.... aside from the fuel pump being the root problem whatelse shold i look into??

hi guys, i have a problem i experienced last night for the first time at an increased boost. i have been running my rb25det that is generally stock for the past yr and it has been boosting 0.4 bar standard. i increased the boost to 0.7 on monday last week and it has been great all till last night. The story goes like this. I was chasing a ferrari f360 modena and we were cruising at 180 kmh untill he decided that he didnt want my old 1980 280zx on his tail so he drop a gear as i did and floored it.... i droped from 5th to 4th gear and floored it.... no problems till my rev shot up between 5000 to 6000 rpm. my engine felt like it was misfiring or backfiring. it was either short on fuel or the tuning isnt right somewhere. (i obviously dont knwo where i went wrong). my exhaust temp shot up to 850 degrees celsius. thats where i felt that there must be a problem with my fuel deliver system. i do however have a fuel pressure regulator which i have set to 38 psi and that has worked for the past yr running 0.4 bar boost. so the question is, why is my engine bogging at high rpm at 0.7 bar boost when it had no problems at 0.4 bar boost before? what else do i have to tune to get my car running reliably and safely without blowing anything?

what if the problem is also a vibrating steering wheel while under heavy braking??? there is a slight judder to the steering wheel under heavy braking at the moment as well.

thanx alot guys wow, i have great respect for you all whom have given me countless advice and solutions on all my problems... I am very very particular about the way my car rides... i will get my car on a high speed balancing machine and hope for the best... thanx again

hi guys, i have had my zx for awhile now and its almost perfect witht the exception of this vibration i managed to get rid of before in the past but now.. its just annoying the F out of me. first the specs of my car... rb25det, wheel spacers all round(new and machined to the tee), 17" rims (straight) with new tires, sylvia rack steering rack customed engine mounts along with long/prop shaft, r200 diff etc. ok so now my problem... i have had a slight vibration to my steering which effects the whole car between to 50 to 75 mph. beyond 75mph i am smooth as silk aside from the road modulations and some tyre vibration at times.... so now my question is to how should i go about this problem... i have not done on wheel balancing, but i'm affraid its a bent long shaft or a shitty engine mount. I have left my car off gear and glided at 60mph just to find out if it was my drivetrain. the vibration was still evident so i used that and concluded that the vibration has nothing to do with the drivetrain but my wheels. pls give me some suggestion to tackle this problem... thanx guys.
