  1. Well, I know this is prolly not even a kill but it was funny anyway. I just got done installing the NPR IC and I'm still tweaking the engine a bit but I've been running 12psi regularly and occasionally 15psi with the secondary control switch. Anyway, I was driving along at normal speed when I noticed a Honda Civic riding my tail and lunging behind me as to "call me out" *snickers* the Civic was black with the infamous one wiper mod painted in white. The grill was painted white as well to match his high tech wipers or should I say wiper. So I blipped the gas a little and apparantly this guy got all excited because he jumps to my right side as to do a fly by so he can show me how fast his car was. With the oversized exhaust screeming passed me, I let him do his thing and I decided to show him a little something something and caught up to him. I'm now on his drivers side where I proceeded to blip the gas dumping the BOV on his arse...he had the deer caught in the head lights look as I smiled and reached down to flip the air craft style switch to 15psi. I dropped the pedal and I wizzed by this poor sap so fast he didn't even know what hit him. He tried to catch up but apparently gave up as I waited for him at the next light he was no where to be found. At this point I'm laughing my arse off and my wife tells me "did you have to flip the switch? you could have killed him with 10psi" lol. I guess I just wanted to really rub it in his face. Oh well, I think he knew I was just toying with him
  2. Well...as you can see the prices here has not gone down. The additive is only a $1.80 at Wally World and I just put it in because I feel guilty putting this crap in my Z (89 octane). She's used to 91 octane and this is the first time she's been using the cheap crap. I've heard about Tolulene but kinda affraid of mixing this stuff in my garage as I've read that it's nasty stuff. BUT if prices don't get any cheaper I will have to give it a try as intercooled or not 15psi with crap gas ain't cuttin it... ps...I've extremely jealous of you guys getting lower gas prices
  3. Yep, I almost crapped my pants when I came back from getting drinks inside the store and noticed that it almost cost 40 bucks to fill up my Z. Damn, I feel like I should be driving an SUV. And what sucks is that I can only afford to use 89 + some octaine boost in a bottle. These gas prices are crazy. I'd prolly end up spending 50 bucks for the primium. I honestly can't see how some of these guys with big cars can afford these gas prices. I'm sure a lot of you guys are paying around the same for gas...I had to slap my self when the thought of buying a Honda as a daily driver crossed my mind
  4. Cool. Glad you had fun here in Vegas. My car was laying in pieces when you where in town but she's now running strong after the IC install.
  5. The Volvo IC is ok in my opinion. I was headed this route at one time because of $$$ issues...I waited for a while and put together enough money to do it right. My train of though was that I didn't want to go through all the trouble of "re-piping" when I do have the money to get a better one....and believe me, intercooling aint easy. Just wanted to do it once and be done with it...I'm lazy like that lol. The only problem I see you having (Scotty had this problem) is blowing the end tanks at high boost levels. He remedied the problem by using what looked like a larger version of turbo hose couplers. As far as I know, he hasn't had any more problems with it. But as a general rule of thumb, try to stay away from IC's made for 4 bangers. Anyway, I just finished installing my Isuzu NPR IC. It was not easy but mang that thing is schaweet. I have no pinging at 15psi and dipped it to 17psi while testing...it was crazy! Glad I waited a little.
  6. I'm using TurboXS RFL BOV...sounds awesome.
  7. well...I think I fixed it. My brother was kind enough to point out that one of the friggen vaccum hose directly under the throttle body has blown out. Apparantly I forgot to zip tie it.....DUH! Now the BOV vents when I rev it
  8. Hey guys, well the IC works and I took it for a quick spin. The first run went really well at 10psi...instantly felt the difference. BUT when I came home, my wife wanted to go for a ride and some problems developed. I noticed that it only boosted 3psi and when the BOV opened, it only opened for a split second. I pull over to check and see if I blew a hose or something...but everything looked fine. I revved the motor and normally the blow off valve would discharge but it didn't. I paid closer attention to the rubber hose coming from the intake to the turbo....I noticed that it would flutter and vibrate everytime I let go of the throttle (you can here it flutter at WOT under load). Sooo, I put two and two together and figured that the turbo is not boosting for some reason....any ideas where I need to look? I really need this car on the road for work tomorrow so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
  9. Yeah I know I know, I'm not exactly the photographer of the year lol but I took it with my camcorder in my garage and yep it was dark out so my bad on the bad pic...I'll have better once when it's all done. I promise
  10. If you guys can't see the pics, please follow this link http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=318371&page=4
  11. Hey guys, I've been working on this install on and off for the past two weeks and here are some pics of the progress. I'll have more pics of the holes I had to cut once everything is done. The IC is looking right at home... As you can see, I have yet to fit the piping. I got side tracked with stiffening up the front of the car as I had to cut both of the top radiator mount. So far I've made a strut tower bar with a spare front sway bar and I also put a rear strut tower bar and another bar squeezed right behind the radiator. I'll keep you guys posted as the project continues... ratedZ 83zxt [15psi]
  12. About the intake...I was originally going to use a helical steel hose to squeeze the intake through the front of the IC. I was going to mount the intake fixed under the front bumper, then hook it up with the hose. This way, the hose can give and it would give me enough room to squeeze it passed the IC end tanks. BUT I scrapped that idea when I was able to use the existing 3" piping. I'll just have to show you guys pics once everything is done...
  13. well, I'm now AC'less...couldn't get the IC to fit without pulling the AC radiator thingy up front (I think it's called a condensor?) Soo, I pulled all hoses, pump and everything else that's attached to it. Believe me I did not want to do this and I'm not looking forward to the summer heat here in Las Vegas. But I want speed so I figured I would be too occupied to feel my skin sticking and peeling off of the leather seat anyway lol. I did keep all the parts though as later on down the line, I will modify the end tanks so I can somehow squeeze all the AC stuff back in. But then again I might not as I don't want to put all that weight back in the car...
  14. Did the midget come out ok? lol As for the hump hose, I've also read that it gives and flexes with the motor... I kind of ran out of $$$ for the clamps so I'm opting for the regular cheapo clamps ($.99) until I have more money next month to get some T-bolt clamps ($3.50 ea. Napa). Most of all the pipes are going to be welded and there's only going to be one 2-1/4" straight hose...1 transition for the turbo, 1 straight hose for the TB and two reducers for the IC. All bends are going to be welded...I just need to cut one in half so I can install the piping. Right now the project has been temporarily halted....ZR8ED warned me about cutting both of the radiator mounts without further bracing the car...sooooo, now I'm in the process of installing a custom strut tower bar using the stock front sway bar...I'm also putting a strut tower bar in the back struts. Then I can go on with the hole and rad. support cutting. The IC is in and mounted though. I think you guys will like it as I was able to feed the 3" piping with the filter in front of the IC...VERY tight fit. Looks good so far.
  15. Their pricey but I guess their worth every penny. Just ordered a set and it was over $70.00 (not including clamps) Thank god I only have to do this once... PS. my car's a mess lol...installing the IC now.
  16. The pipes are 2-1/4 and the turbo is 2"...can I get away using a straight 2-1/4" hose? or is this a no no. Also does anyone know off the top of their head what size the throttle body is? Thanks all.
  17. umm...didn't see the hunting section until now. I don't know about you guys but it makes my blood boil seeing those dead animals and the way they describe how they made the "Kill" I'm all for killing and eating whatever you kill...but for sport? I have to draw the line....not to mention these guys are prolly using freaking machine guns and tank busters...I don't call that hunting...more like poching.
  18. ahahahahahaha....I can't stop laughing my arse off! The looks in these guys faces is killing me!
  19. I've read that you can...only thing is, I want to keep it if I need it to pass smog Depending on $$$ I want to move the battery in the car so I can use that space for the carbon canister.
  20. Ok, so now I'm excited...just got the NPR IC (black one) and I test fitted it in the Z. It fills the WHOLE SPACE in the front. Looks like I can squeeze the 3" intake pipes up front like I've always had it. BUT I have much work to do Both sides of the top radiator support will be hacked off...I'm a little freaked out about cutting them but it looks like this is not the only hacking I will have to do. Another thing I will have to cut is the bottom front facia where the bottom of the IC sits. I will have to drop the IC about an 1" or 2" to clear the hood and so I can get the pipes to line up with the inlet and outlet (which are sitting in an angel by the way ) I will also have to relocate the black canister on the passenger side so I can run the pipes through it. Soooo...in short, this will take a little longer than I figured. I will have to first fit the IC before I can touch the piping. Anyway, does anyone have any pics of how you cut the holes and what type of bracket I will have to make for the top part of the radiator? Any advice? I want to finish this before the nationals and I will be documenting the install step by step for others to use as reference. Oh crap...it just hit me that I will prolly have to get an electric fan to fit the pipes....aaarrrgghh...it will be worth it.
  21. Cool. Let me know which hotel and when you'll be in and if I can get a baby sitter I should be able to swing by the hotel.
  22. Yep, I will be doing the hybrid turbo swap soon. I have an extra T3 laying in my garage waiting to be massaged For now I'm using a rebuild T3. I'm just doing things in steps as I don't have the money to do the whole shabang at once (15 month old baby is very expensive ) Once the IC is set up, my next thing will be a T3/T4 turbo. I figured it will be a few months until this happens so I went with a 2-1/4" piping. Once I get the hybrid, I will be replacing the cool side of the IC piping with a 2.5" piping. All in time I guess... PS. as for the spacing, there should be plenty of room for that IC. I only have an intake up front and I removed the grill also. I'll be removing the AC fan as well once the IC comes in. But yes it will be a tight fit
  23. Yeah I saw that one....it didn't look familiar so I was kind of afraid to bid on it. So I just bought what was already tried and done by another Z'er. Infact, remembering all the NPR IC's I've looked at for the past month I don't recall seeing that style. Can anyone verify that this is infact an NPR IC?
  24. The first deal with the silver Isuzu NPR's fell through so I had to find another one These NPR's are hard to come by but I was able to find the largest NPR. It's all black and it's the same one that ScottyGNZ used. It was actually kind of funny watching how much the silver polished NPR's were going for in Ebay while the lowly black NPR IC sold for less. Don't these people know that the black one is the largest one....oh I forgot, it won't have the "bling bling" factor lol. Anyway, it's a good thing that most people are worried more about the look of the IC otherwise I prolly still won't have one. Anyway, I also got the 2-1/4" piping from Precision Engines and man those pipes are pretty thick compared to the 3" piping I have for the intake. Well, it looks like it's time to get busy with the IC. Just need to barrow a saws-all to do some "minor" cutting....yeah right. I'll be documenting the install to hopefully help others with 280zxt's. Should have it all done before Nationals. Here's the link to the IC...forgot to mention that it's brand spanking new http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33602&item=2404932302 PS. Hey BobH...any luck in finding an NPR?
  25. oh I forgot to mention... szlash280z, the BOV is only loud when you get on it and build boost. I can drive in stop and go traffic and as long as I don't gun it there will not be enough pressure to open the valve open. I've had to pass a few officers already and I just shifted and drove normal so the BOV doesn't go off lol
