  1. I got the new Toyota s12+8 calipers with the vented rotors on lst night. The slotted rims dont clear the caliper, probably by 1/8" or 1/4". But my question is how much of the wheel stud is needed for safety? Right now, without the wheel spacer, the wheel studs barely stick out through the holes in the wheel and the lug nuts probably grab about 1/2" of thread. Are longer wheel studs needed, or deeper lug nuts?
  2. Hey, Chaning to the Toyota brakes tonight, and in taking out the cotter pin for the nut on the spindle, it broke. Any fixes for this? Can I just use another thin piece of metal, zip tie, anything ideas? Thanks
  3. Watch "Heart Like a Wheel".... I think thats the title.. And "Hollywood Knights" and "American Grafitti" Bullitt Gone in 60 Seconds...
  4. Anybody know of some good pads for the S12+8 vented calipers? I just bought a pair loaded, but later on down the road will want better pads.
  5. 1) Aston Martin DB9 2) Ferrari F430 3) Koenigsegg CCX 4) 1967 Corvette w/ L88, Convertible 5) Ferrari GTO 6) Mercedes CLK DTM AMG 7) Hummer H1 8) 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500, or a 1965 Pontiac GTO w/ Tri Pwr.... Mustang probly be worth more...
  6. I'm from MA, got a 94 in a 55.... $365 ticket. This was when I was 16 too! Went to the court with my mom, got yelled at by the judge, and they lowered it to $75, but the yearly insurance additions sucks... BTW, I had a K40 undetectable radar.... work great during the day, but at night time cops will wait to see headlights and then take your reading when it's too late.. I found out the hard way.
  7. It's not possible to use the S12W brake pads from Modern Motorsports on the S12+8 calipers, right?
  8. would the stock wring harness and stuff be able to handle the LED? I might try going to AutoZone and buying a pack of regular bulbs to see how it looks...
  9. thanks, thought they'd be illegal, and also wonder how bright a blue bulb would even be..
  10. Hey, I love how some older cars have tailights with a purplish tint to them when they apply their brakes. Is this just because they have a purple light bulb with the stock red tail light lens? I was thinking about doing this effect on my Z since I have them apart and cleaning them up now. Anyone got them?
  11. Hey guys, Just wondering if anyones got some free time between the 19-24... I'm flying out there for Spring Break and just thought by chance if anyone lived out there and was free to have a get together... lunch or something. Let me know, or if anything else is going on. I'll be going to the drag strip Thursday for the races.
  12. Bought the John Lingenfelter book today. Now looking for the other ones, but gotta get them used... they are expensive! Anyone know where I can get them cheap??
  13. Gotta crunch some numbers for different engine options.. Tranny wise, I want a 5 or 6 speed. Hoping for a WC T-5, but wondering about the torque ratings... (I'm hoping for about 350hp eventually, and not sure about what torque will be there but I'm guessing low 400's.) T-56 I'm guessing is about 60 pounds heavier and needs more modifications to install.. Anyone else have some more opinions to add, go right ahead. Just so you guys know, I've been planning for 3 months, and not going to purchase for another 6 at least! (getting my homewok done)
  14. Thank you. Pyro, that is the route I was planning to take: cam, AL heads, block huggers, and exhaust meeting after tranny (debating the muffler issue... ). I don't know my budget, but I'd say about $6,000 for engine, tranny, R200 and the othe small stuff that adds up. (I estimate a year until I get the time and money and knowledge to do this) Olphart, yes I have seen many of his posts! He is amazing! I will be doing a lot more reseach then PMing him, and some others. Thank you for that site, I will look into that asap.
  15. Thanks. I was looking for something to put in with relatively good horsepower for my first car restoration, if you will... I was planning on heads and cam swap, then maybe pistons later on. I would love to get a custom engine, just dont have the money. Also, I have some time I need to save up, so thats why I'm trying to figure out some routes now. So for anyone who can help... my goals are. 1.Reliable every weekend, maybe some week days driver. 2.Maybe once a month or every other month track driver. 3.Stop some rice pride in my town. 4. Eventually 350Hp 5. Well rounded in all aspects of performance.
  16. Hello Everyone, Let me first introduce myself here as this is my first post. Some of you I have talked with over PM's and email and you have helped a ton. I took someones advice last November to "search before posting on the forums" and well, its been 3 months. I was wondering who has the GM crate engine thats rated at 290hp in their Z. After lots of searching I think this might be the best route to go for a reliable engine that I can build up to have a weekend driver, occansional track car. If anyone does have this engine I'd like to talk with them and see how it is working out. Thanks guys, -Joe
