  1. Does this mean that I have the improved crankshaft that with the oiling design flaw corrected?
  2. Is this an R32 or R33...this is exactly what my r32 looks like
  3. I have an R32 Rb26, I see the location where the people claim the pre-drilled hole is supposed to be. I have looked on the inside scratched the outside with a screwdriver and can't find a brass plug, it appears un-drilled. Can someone confirm that this is sometimes the case, or tell me that I am crazy and that it is drilled and plugged.
  4. Are there mounting locations for these braces on the RB26?
  5. This doesn't seem like the ideal solution, leaving 4 of the 8 bolts out. Shouldn't their be some sort of braket that goes form the bottom/sides of the block to connect to the trans? Does anyone know how the trans connects to an rb25?
  6. I have everything but the trans. Brakes, axles suspension, sub frame, etc
  7. I ordered and recieved the RB20 rear sump oil pan and pick up, but I have a couple issues. Firstly the bolts that hold the pan to the block are much larger on the original pan. I can deal with this. Secondly the oil pickup mounts to the engine in the very frony of the motor since the original is a front sump. The new pan is rear sump, how do you make this work since you would need a very long pickup tube. Lastly the transmission (rb25gts) is setup to mount to the motor with 8 bolts. With the original pan 4 go into the block and the other 4 go into the pan. What do you connect the bottom 4 bolts on the transmission to? Thanks for your help.
  8. is this neccessary on an r32 rb26? I have searched and there are a few posts but I couldn't find any in depth discusions of the pros and cons. I am planning on 400-450hp.
  9. Obviously this wouldn't be on public roads, what is your setup and how stable was your car at this speed?
  10. I used the advanced search feature....posting a thread and it comes back with responses ; ) sorry
  11. I am swapping an RB26 with the RB25 trans into my 72 240. I am using the q45 diff and have the complete driveline for this. I am trying to figure out where to get the yoke for the front of the driveline to go into the trans. I don't have the one that goes with the trans. Are there any US cars that use the same spline count/configuration?
  12. Just to verify is the gear ratio in the Q45 R200 always 3.54?
  13. I had a 2002 M3 and the motor in the car is hands down the best all around engine I have ever seen. It has a decent bottom end, just begs to be revved, and is butter all the way to the redline and beyond.I have heard that the 333hp number is low and that it is reputed to be closer to 360. Like others have mentioned it is very pricey. In addition their were some design flaws with the motor. My engine had to be replaced at 20k miles.
  14. I am on the opposite side of this thing from most of you guys. I had a Z in high school and college. I then went out into the working world and onto new cars. I have had a 1997 Prelude, a 2002 BMW M3, and now have a 2006 M45 as my daily driver. I just recently purchased a 72 240 as a project car. Maybe all of you are too close. It's like when you meet a girl, you love all those quirky little things about her. As time goes on all these same things start to annoy you. But when she is gone you miss her. The 240z is a fantastic car. It's design is timeless and even now doesn't look dated. It is the forebearer of all Japanese sports cars in America. Now that it is more than 30 years old, I think the value is only going to go up, like the 60's Muscle cars already have. Maybe it is the distance of time that is tainting my memory. But I loved my first Z and I am sure that I will love this one. There is something pure and simple about the experience of driving and owning a Z. For me it is not a compromise, I could afford to buy just about any (within reason) car I wanted. I wanted a Z.
  15. When I as in high school I got my stock 280z up to 135MPH on a long, narrow, bumpy back road. Absolutely scared the crap out of me. Car was bouncing all over the place
  16. I am looking to get about 350hp to the wheels, mostly weekend street driving maybe a little recreational tracking every now and again, nothing serious. With this in mind is the mod to the R32 neccessary?
  17. I am just using my own thread to compile all the info I need in one place...may be usefull to someone else. And yes, I do talk to myself because I'm insane
  18. I don't know if this should be in the classied section or here, but... I am looking for a source ideally on the west coast for an RB26DETT in a front clip. It seems from my research that the R32's are quite a bit cheaper than later models, is it worth it to pay for the R33 version?. If anyone knows of a good supplier with one in stock I would appreciate it. If there is a thread I may have missed let me know.

  22. Hello all, I have been reading the forums compulsively for the last couple months, this site has an absolute wealth of information and seems like a really great community. I have just purchased a 1972 240z and am planning how I want to restore/hybridize it. I drove a 78' 280 (which I loved) all though high school and college and had to hold everything together on a shoe string. The car was actually stolen and recoverd twice, then passed down to my brother. Now with this 240 I have the money to buy all the cool parts I couldn't afford then. My father is a mechanic and has owned a shop for 20 years so with the expertise of him and his network of friends I should be able to overcome the technical hurdles. This will be a for fun only car as I have an 2006 M45 as my daily driver. I will probably track the car occasionally but it will be driven primarily on the road. I want it to handle and be fast enough to scare me, I am thinking 350 (reliable) horse power to the wheels should do the trick, but I know that horsepower is like crack, so I will probably want more later. Below I have listed what I am planning now. I know everyone will bash me and tell me to search and read the forums (which I am, and will be doing), but maybe some of you are bored and will offer a few nuggets of wisdom. Engine: I am thinking I want to do an RB26DETT swap. I like the skyline motor, as I have heard it is "bullet proof" at my horsepower goals, and I think it lends a little cache down the road should I decide to sell the car and build out another. I have read a lot of posts comparing the RB25 and 26. What I got from this is that the RB25 is a little easier to swap, and that the rb26 has slightly stronger internals, and has a lot more aftermarket parts available. Is this accurate? Also using custom mounts will the stock intake and the exhaust manifold/turbos fit? If I couple this with a transmision from a rb25 will the sheet metal in the tunnel have to be cut out to accomodate the large transmission? Will the shifter be in the correct place, or will some sort of linkage need to be built? Is it worth it to buy the front clip, or is it passable to buy the Long block, transmission, computer and wiring harness? Suspension/Brakes/diff I am debating whether to put in the r200 or r230 LSD diff. From the posts I have read it seems that the R200 is easier to put in/match up with other parts, and that the r230 is sturdier but requires somewhat extensive mods to make it fit. Is the extra trouble for the 230 worth it with my goals in mind? If I go with th R200 I am thing the viscous coupling models are better, true? I want to convert to 5 lugs hubs, and CV joints, as well as disk brakes all around. How difficult is the 5 lug conversion with the 280zx hubs, is it worth it over using one of the adapter based solutions. For brakes I am deciding between cobbling together a solution from factory parts or buying a pre-built solution such as the wilwood solution from Arizona zcars. In my application will the factory parts solution be good enough to safely control the car. I have a million more questions, but this is already a novel that falls into several different forum categories, so I will stop here. Now I have posted am no longer just a lurker. It would be cool if anyone who is running the rb motor setup could post a reply (even if you don't feel like answering any of the general/preference questions above), so when I have specific questions I will know who to ask. I feel priveledged to be amongst your ranks. Nelo
