  1. haha, vortex does blow! What is the offset on the stock rabbit wheels, like 35 or something? What is the offset of the porsche wheels? It shouldnt be too hard to figure out if a 20-25mm adapter is going to stick your new wheels way out of the fenders.

Oh, on vortex are you searching the wheel and tire forum, or the Mk1 forum?

  2. That is cool you got to keep your job there. Im in the same boat (at a machine shop too) and its just my boss and I. We are struggling for work right now too, but things are starting to look up.

I have been laid off and re-hired from the same company twice in the past. Its not all bad, I just wish it hadnt happened

  3. Ive got a 73 shell with not title, but good parts if you end up trying to fix it. I would have cried if my Z got hit that way too. Oh yeah, im located in everett, but could tow the car down there if need be.

  4. I think the R180's with 411's can be found in older 200SX's (S12's)

If you search yahoo for R180s and R200's you'll find more than enough Datsun info with those cars with the right gearing you need.

Good luck with your search' date=' i've done it a couple times.

Yes, the S12 200sx Non turbo 4 cyl cars came with the 4.11 R180. I know because I had one and had the diff apart.

  5. Ive got one in my garage now, Ill check later today if it will bolt up to the N42 or E88's ive got laying around.

My personal Idea for the manifold was to use it for a supercharged L motor where you want to have the TB before the charger, so the intake manifold just needs a hose hooked to it.

  6. The Audi V8 mounts the opposite way of the rabbit motor and would stick out past the core support ALOT! Also, not a single V8 equipped Audi in north america came FWD and 5 spd. Even Quattro 5spd V8's are hard to find with less than 100 imported into the country!

I say go for the Acura motor, if youve just got it sitting there it takes away from alot of initial purchase costs for any other motor/trans combo you will run.

If you are in the need to stay with a VW motor I would go with a 16v or TDI. The 16v is a 98% a bolt in, uses the stock style rabbit trans and shifter and driveshafts. Cammed and on MS&S a friend of mines rabbit went 14.5 in the quarter. it was pretty sweet for a basic swap.

The reason I say TDI is its cool, and you can make alot of torque and get great (40+) MPG. I dont know much else about the TDI motors because I havent been into VW/Audi stuff for a while now and they were just becoming available when I left that tuner crowd.

Thumbs up for the S12, I just got rid of mine but it was a really fun car. I welded the diff and went to a few drift events with it!

  7. Im not sure what the advantage in swapping to this setup, but hey, more power to ya. The setup you are thinking about has a clutch type LSD that can be bolted into it. It uses a single wishbone/lower control arm and uses the halfshaft and U-joints to keep the thing upright. There is a forward aiming bar also, that forms some sort of A between it and the lower wishbone. Twin coil over type shocks that will fit a 2.5" id spring on them without any terrible work.

The inboard brakes are a pain in the ass, in a jag anyways. When rotors need to be done, its easier to drop the whole rear end out of the car than try and change the rotors in the car. The calipers are two piston and use a pretty standard pad. The Ebrake is pretty sketchy and uses a wierd linkage/mechanical caliper that is seperate from the actual brake caliper.

The bolt pattern is the chevy pattern, 5x4.75 I think. Anyways, hope this helps ya out a little in your quest for a more hybrid Z!

Ill take a few pics tomorrow at work, we've got a rear end out of a car on the floor right now. Later!

  8. I was running my SDS system on my car last summer without the turbo, IE mostly stock. Compression is around 8.8:1. Header and exhaust, and a short intake with a cone filter got me into the 14's in the quarter. 14.8 @ 91mph incase anyone cares.

If you are thinking megasquirt, or another cheaper type system, I say go for it!

  9. The G20 tb is 60mm, the linkage that is on them doesnt work with the Z linkage though the ball is the same size. Also, the TPS on the G20 tb uses a wierd paddle thing to drive the tps rather than the 'D' shaft normally used.

  10. I usually use the stock "inner" spring of the 240sx TB when swapping the Z linkage on. You can pull the spring almost to the tension you want by the number of times you wrap it around the shaft.

If that makes any sence to you, try it. I might post some pics later if I have time. Later
