  1. I've got a 1970 240z with a 327 chev and I plan on putting on some aluminium heads to save some more weight on the front, so I'm guessing that would make it similar to the weight of the L series engine.

I've got some tokico illuminas on the way but I'm unsure about which coilover and spring rate to get, I was going to get the ground control kit but they don't list the spring rates.

  2. Terry the box I'm looking at from Astro is the standard ford racing version so it doesn't have the astro shafts, their website lists the box as 28 spline.

I have been in contact with Astro and apparently with their bellhousing this t5 will bolt up to the chevy. Just got to get a price on freight to Australia so hopefully this won't put me over budget.

  3. I was looking at buying a heavy duty ford racing t5 from astro performance but from what I've read the input shaft is different, would a change of input shaft to a GM part work or wouldn't this work with the ford gears? Alternatively does anyone know where I could get a cheap world class t5 and I could get it fully rebuilt with a GM kit, I am in Australia so I guess this doesn't make it easy.

  4. I don't think he is lazy. Australia is 18 hours ahead of California i think, so that could be the reason. Plus, the US toll free number might not be free for him. Either way MSA should response to his emails. The company I work for we respond to each and every email within 24 hours. Thats called Customer Service.

mossy74, don't use one of those free email accounts to send them an email. Use your work account to send them an email and see if you get a response thus eliminating SPAM filtering.

I'll try another emaill account and see if that works, thanks.

  5. He is just too lazy to call. I refuse to deal with emails for the exact reason he states about responding. If you CALL them, then you KNOW you have their attention.

Mate I'm not too lazy to call, the toll free number wouldn't work in Australia and I don't think the missus would be too happy with me on the phone at 4 in the morning.

  6. if it is in place and working then leave it alone. setting the engine back a few inches is not going to help much. The engine may even run cooler with the engine more forward because it gives much more room around the firewall for hot air to get out.

if you want to lighten up the front end then install some aluminum parts (heads, intake, water pump, radiator) and add a mini-starter. moving the battery to the back will also help a lot.

If you want even more power, then install a 350 crank.

One of the reasons to shift it back is with the JTR engine mount kit is you can bolt up a tremec 5sp and it will come straight out of the stock shifter hole with no mods and I imagine the JTR transmission mount is for the tremec also(this is from what I've read please correct me if I'm wrong) At the moment its got a 4sp Ford toploader box and I hate it.

  7. Is it registered? Do you have the original engineering approval? If so, you want to think seriously about not letting the rego lapse.

If it's unregistered make sure you know all the registration requirements. If you do things right it can be registered but make sure you don't spend time and money and then get knocked back for rego.

You should get familiar with some of this information to set yourself on the right track. http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx and have a chat with an approving engineer early. Not just any engineer but one who is authorised to approve modifications.

Yep its engineered already and still registered in NSW but I live in VIC so I will get it transferred once the car is completed.

  8. Picked up my 1970 240z on the weekend, its been in the family for almost 20 years and I've finally convinced them to sell it to me. Its got a 327 chev, flares, and an almost rust free body, lots of plans though including ZG flares, some 16in watanabes, bigger brakes, coilovers etc.

Heres a couple of poor pics, I will take some better ones this weekend.

  9. Thanks for the replies, I thought it sat pretty far forward. I definetly want the engine further back, would it be fairly easy to buy a JTR kit to move it back? Its also got a ford toploader gearbox at the moment which I was going to replace with a tremec 5 speed or toyota R154 box, don't know if that would complicate things or not.

  10. It`s a 240Z from Norway.

Powered by a VG30DETT konverted to singelturbo,

    don`t remember any hp-number, 4-500hp maybe.

    Colour from a 350Z.

The owner is an employe of a Nissan dealer in Norway,

the first company who imported a Skyline GT-R to Norway.

The car was also in a video from High Octane,

    named "High Octane Skandinavia".

I actually have that DVD in oz its called High Octane Detonate, the 240 is in a track race with a bunch of other cars and gets tagged in the rear quarter by an M3.
