  1. Just bought a stock 77 280z.. It is missing quite a bit of power compared to my 76 with tripple webers. I just cleaned the tank, installed new fuel pump, replaced a clogged injector with a working injector i had lying around. Checked timing plugs and wires everything looks good there. So no onto the problem... The car cruises beautifully but when i try to accelerate it wont go past about 3000 rpms. i can go past 3000 if i just ease into it but not full throttle. Sounds to me like enrichment is not kicking in? Any ideas on what i should be looking at?
  2. Well was planning on just converting to turbo but while I had the motor out I painted the engine bay semi-gloss black and ordered a urethane bushing kit and tore out the entire front end and cleaned and painted everything. No more dirty hands working on the front of the car I also got my P-90 head back from the machine shop. They said that the dowel for the camshaft was cracked so they removed it but they did not put another one in. Anyone know where i could get a new one? Last resort would be pulling one off of the 2 cams i have lying around. Also think i will order this for oil supply - http://www.brfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=39&product_id=104 and this for oil return - http://www.brfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=39&product_id=95 The sending line is just a hair short so i am going to call them and see if they can make it an inch or so longer. Let me know what you think on both the cam dowel pin and the turbo oil lines from B&R.
  3. I am in the same situation... I bought KYB boots and a urethane bushing kit and was going to look for a better boot and use the poly bump stops. Is it really not necessary to use a boot i figured that it would decrease the life of the seal on the strut constantly seeing debris?
  4. Would this oil return kit give me any problems? http://www.brfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=95
  5. What would be a good place to buy an Oil return kit? Ebay?
  6. Wow glad i found this thread... Im doing a build right now...I rebuilt my stock F54 with P79 head and have about 3000 miles on it and 180 psi on all cylinders. I hate throwing out the pistons and putting in dished with such a good break in on the rebuild. I had talked to a few people in Dallas and they said i would have to pull the timing almost to around 14 degrees if i decided to keep the flat tops. What im wondering is i want to be in the 250 to 300 hp eventually and this is a daily driver so should i put in dished pistons or can this be accomplished with flat tops? I will be controlling fuel and timing with MS-II Injectors are 440cc Stock T3 P90 Head Plugs will be BPR7ES I was going to start off with j-pipe and stock boost then move to an intercooler and around 10 to 12 psi then eventually upgrade to a t3/4 turbo One more question I just saw a few comments saying that the "A" grind cam is better for this application. I don't have an "A" grind lying around but a have a l26 e88 "C" grind cam lying around would this be even better? nvm just realized that would probably be a pain since my "C" is externally oiled...
  7. Anyways I almost have all the parts together for the build. The motors compression is going to be around 8.7:1 I have heard some say I won't be able to run much timing with that compression. I plan on controlling the spark with the megasquirt 2. I have heard to use a gm hei 7 pin module to control the spark but I have also heard that ms 2 can control it by itself. How much timing should I be able to run at 10 psi Should i stick with the Flat tops or try and find some dished pistons? will i be able to achieve the 250 to 300 with flat tops?
  8. I just got all of them working they where all gummed up. Being an electrical engineer, 12 volts won't hurt them since that is what they are being supplied on a running vehicle. Except on the car the current is limited using resistors or a PWM setup. It would hurt them if you left it on the battery long enough but not when checking function.
  9. So I was thinking i got a good deal on some 440cc Supra turbo injectors off of ebay. Tested them and they all read in the 3.3 ohm range. Went to connect them directly to a battery to see if they open up and nothing? Am i doing this wrong? The stock high impedance z injectors i can hear clicking and can blow through them but noting with the supra injectors.
  10. Hey Pallnet, Im doing a turbo swap and going with the 440cc supra injectors and was wondering if you would happen to have an 11mm fuel rail ready to go and if not how long till you have one? Thanks Randall
  11. Yeah I have removed the pan with the motor in the car but I am not to fond of it. I need to clean up the engine compartment and swap the head so I will probably just pull the motor and do it all out of the car. So right now I have an 80's zx distributor for N/A would it be better to have the early model without the module on the side or do I need the module to connect to the GM module for Megasquirt. What is the best/easiest way to lock out the mechanical advance on the distributor? I just found a p90 head, an intercooler, and possibly 440cc supra injectors all from a guy a couple hours away. BTW my car currently is running Triple Webers 40's and once I get the turbo up and running I will be selling these so if your interested just let me know.
  12. Max that i will be shooting for would be 300 HP so im thinking 370cc injectors would be fine...Where do i get a fuel rail setup for these injectors? Any way to get the 370cc cheap? 300 HP is a long term goal since i already have a T3 ready to drop in and have not purchased an intercooler. So for now im looking at a max of 250 HP or so with the T3. What is the maximum i would want to go with the T3 until i install an intercooler? Yeah i just thought of the Turbo Oil pump i forgot to write that one down. I have done a little reading and i believe you can lock the N/A distributor and control it using megasquirt but im not entirely sure on this yet but as hard as it is to find a turbo distributor i hope this is the case. Just found these http://www.ebay.com/itm/36lbs-fuel-injectors-mustang-thunderbird-turbo-svo-fully-cleaned-100-warranty-/170860146974?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c80ef11e&vxp=mtr#ht_781wt_907 Are these the correct 370cc injectors and they say in the add i can get them low or high impedance. Which should i go for? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-1986-04-Mustang-36-lbs-hr-Set-of-8-Direct-Fit-Fuel-Injectors-/130706927916?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e6ebd712c&vxp=mtr Also found these would this work? http://www.ebay.com/itm/FUEL-INJECTOR-E5ZE-A3B-36-LBS-360CC-BROWN-TOP-MERKUR-XR4TI-FORD-TURBO-/390431508346?_trksid=m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D102538494449808867&_qi=RTM1084479#ht_1077wt_754 This seems like the way to go 6 for $120
  13. It's alright...stirred up a lot of food for thought. Anyways starting to move forward with the project. I just ordered MS II v3.0 with relay board and insulated wiring. Also ordered the walbro 255lph pump along with all of the sensors. Here is an up to date list of what i have so far... MS II and all sensors Wideband LC-1 Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump Intake Manifold Stock T3 Turbo Stock Exhaust Manifold Rebuilt F54 Block w/ P79 head (Flat-Top Pistons) List of what i know i need to still purchase Injectors (Suggestions?) 240sx Throttle Body (What year?) Intercooler and Piping (Suggestions?) Turbo Oil Lines May Purchase a P90 or P90a Head... I plan on running at stock boost levels to get the feel since this will be my first turbo vehicle. I plan on ending up somewhere in the 275 to 300 HP range. So the intercooler and piping isn't too big of deal at the moment. I was doing some reading and was looking into the 370cc ford injectors but not sure since things will be modified although i wouldn't mind modifying the fuel rail since the stock one looks pretty ugly. Let me know what you think and also let me know if i am missing anything. Thanks
  14. what is the easiest way to go as far as setting up timing with megasquirt and stock 280zx distributor?
  15. So I think I'm going to be ordering MS2 From what I've read yal recommend the walbro 255lph for fuel pump What are your suggestions for fuel pressure regulators? Stock setup? Also the injectors I received are the stock 185?cc injectors. So I plan on getting the MS2 running on stock fuel setup first and then purchasing larger injectors and installing the turbo. What would be a good injector for when I go turbo? I see the stock turbo injectors going for 150 for 6?
  16. Awesome I can't wait to get this started... I just spent all spring break doing the 240sx 5 speed mod and it turned out really well. I love the Megan short shifter!!! The only thing that bothers me is my lifters seem to be louder than they should. After doing a full motor rebuild I have done the valve lash multiple times without positive results The valve noise also seems to come and go. Oil pressure after rebuild was 10 at 1000 rpm and went all the way to 60 psi But after the lifter noise started I checked the pressure at idle and it's hanging around 20 psi. Blockage? I'm using a 10w-40(i think quaker)here in Texas with no zddp additive. I didn't have the noise until after the first 1000 miles or so after the rebuild and used a zddp additive on the break-in oil but not after. I also have close to 3000 thousand on the rebuild. Also i overheated the motor after it was rebuilt due to radiator problems but i don't think it got too hot. Compression after 3000 miles turned out to be 175 to 180 on all 6 cylinders. Anyone got any ideas?
  17. Yeah I forgot about that. Would it be alright to weld one in with the pan on the motor? Also where does the oil supply from the turbo come from? T off of the oil gauge?
  18. Is the stock 280z fuel pump enough or what should I be looking for
  19. Just bought a turbo exhaust manifold and will be picking up the intake and turbo Monday. So that leaves me with mega squirt, fuel pump, and tps
  20. Also I mainly want to get it running n/a before I start into the turbo What kind of waste gate bov inter cooler setup should I be looking at for stock turbo and injectors Also I don't have any plans on changing out the dizzy/coil any time soon
  21. Thanks for the input guys I'm kinda looking at the 250 horsepower figure for now I found a guy selling manifold injectors fuel rail wiring harness to splice stock turbo and fpr for 280zxt for 125 So that leaves me with fuel pump mega squirt and tps and possibly wideband
  22. http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirti-programmable-efi-system-pcb22-assembled-unit-p-34.html?osCsid=a8957aa4230e36a9f441bd5a94e97586 Will this work? And I looked up their relay board and understand what you meant. If I use tps and iat will I need a wideband or could I get away with a narrow band until I start boosting?
  23. Could you do without the tps and just run MS with map and iat sensors. Relay board?
