  1. ZT-R Why does the top of the panel stick out? did you trim the rivets on the back side of the panel?
  2. I don't know what happened to my latest post but here it is again: Hey, do any of you guys have any "extra" door panels laying around? I'll pay to have them shipped, in fact more specifically I'm only interested in the metal uppers. Doesnt matter what year or style ie: 240 260 or 280Z
  3. what I did was heat and stretch the vinyl until I got it to a point that looked pretty good, then I applied the contact cement, let it set up for 15 minutes or so. Then I heated both the vinyl and contact cement and bada bing bada boom instant grab action.
  4. Clive, How much did you heat the vinyl? I've done it a few times for clients and it only took ... maybe an hour. Once I got it to a point that I was happy with I used some contact cement (NO Flooring Glue this time) reheated the vinyl and it stuck like it was factory.
  5. I think they're an ok setup, its not a Ferrari setup by any means, but I have two kits one of which I installed more than 8-9 years ago and it still works great to this day. I guess it just boils down to a matter of choice. So post a pic of the problems your having, Im sure we can all come up with a solution.
  6. ZTR Im gonna need a pic with that one. I'm also gonna play devils advocate and ask why you dont go with a system thats proven to work.
  7. Someone asked what else Ive made, here is a pic of my custom 510 dash Before and after pics, I frankenstiened three dashes together to get the correct length. Eliminated the center radio and cigarette lighter in favor of engine management. Later I made a custom center console for the radio, 12v supple etc
  8. How similar? got a pic... from a few different angles
  9. Nelsonian, Thank you (Smiles) I live for this stuff!!! I got into FRP years ago with the idea that I was going to make small fiberglass speaker pods for my 510,... years later Im making ....everything!!!! So can it be done? Yes Im sure, but the problem would be getting your idea outta your head and into mine.... Ya knwo that whole distance thing kinda comes into play. Not to mention that I dont have a car to prototype from. Does anyone live in San Francisco Bay Area that would be willing to lend their car to prototyping? that would help alot!
  10. Lance, No clue if it will fit or not, I have zero knowledge of the 2x2 interior. I will however consider making those panels as well. Thats how all this got started in the first place. It basically boils down to interest in the finished product.
  11. Yo ZTR, Yes and No, I designed that door pull to match the doorpanels with the speaker mods attached. Will it fit a factory 240 setup? Sure, with a little patience and some basic fab skills you could make it work.
  12. Carbon Fiber Door Pulls!!! Where!?!?!?! Yeah, but Im not happy with the way the finish look. Ideally I'd like to make parts that are more "Plug and Play" no one wants to get their parts and have to take it to the paint shop to get cleared. So having said that Im gonna be re-making the molds so I can get a vacuum on them, I'm sure that will solve the problem of having to clear or finish every part. I do have a set of fiberglass handles and that set of carbon handles ready to go, BUT!!! the finish on the carbon handles looks good in the pics but it needs some more finish work AND!!! the other carbon handle is fresh out the mold and also needs finish work... basically whoever buys them will have to take it to the paint shop.
  13. Okie dokie smokies; Gots a few pics for a basis update on those door pulls, unfortunately Im not really pleased with the results. If I continue making them out of carbon I'd have to finish each and every piece that I pop out of the mold ... Sure I could tell the end user that they have to get the part finished or cleared but as a consumer myself thats not something that even I would want to do. Fact is it might be easier and cheaper for them to covered with leather, vinyl, bedsheets, baby diapers or whatever your plans are for the finished product... Again, Im not happy with the finish! I was even contemplating remaking the mold so I can get a vacuum bag on em just to see what the end result would be. Oh ya and I have a set of panels (pics attached) that I forgot to roll all the air bubbles out of, same great panel, same great layup, same strength same great ... you get it. Just alot of air bubbles, I'll let em go for $200 because Im not comfortable with someone opening the box and seeing all the trapped air, just want you to know what your getn before you get it. Pics!!!!
  14. I meant flooring adhesive IS the sh**
  15. LMAO!!! flooring adhesive in the sh**
  16. Thats Hot!!! What kind of glue did you use to adhere the vinyl to the new glass panel?
  17. Hey Bandit, I've got those molds setting on my work bench, just a matter of finding the time to get em laid up. I do have a couple of guys looking to get door pulls so its definately on the front end of things, I'll get em worked out soon. Thanks for the positive feedback. Pete
  18. Hmmm, Well based on the recent publicized delivery techniques of Fedex and UPS that doesnt suprise me. I'll have to come up with something thats delivery man proof so as not to allow further damage in transit. That just sucks!
  19. Where was the nick located? side, front or rear edge? In the future I'll try to buffer these areas with some more cardboard or maybe even wood scraps I have lying around. jagged, Thanks for the positive feedback Pete
  20. Just bonded and riveted these up for a one of the local (to me) forum members, gonna deliver tommorrow and I hope he's happy with the finished product.
  21. So just remember that when you guys get your panels, the back edge must be lined up in order for the door pull to be correct. Remember when I said that I was working on getting that all sorted out? well, I got it all sorted out. I made the attached jig )see pic) so that all the door pulls are in the exact same location. I did however elect to make the door pull holes a little smaller than normal so there is more than enough wiggle room. Don't be surprised if you have to get that file out and make it a but bigger. You may want to do that before upholstery.
  22. Shipped out panels today for all the guys that are paid in full, still got two sets and a third laying in the mold. If anyone wants a set paypal me and I can get em shipped today. Even if you dont have a deposit with me it doesnt matter as I'll probably have them all done by the weekend.
  23. 240slidekat, I actually have 4 sets of panels that are ready to ship and 1 in the mold that are pending payment and should have the other 5 completed before the weekend. Your looking at a week maybe?
  24. Keith, Damn dude did you want those back? I trashed them out already. No Im kidding, dont worry I'll hook you up and deliver them as a way of thanking you for letting me use them. IBang, ya PM me for a shipping quote.
  25. Im probably going to be doing it a bit different as far as payment goes. Trying to figure out user names and emails and paypal and the forum is WAYY!!!!!! to complicated. I'll probably be working with paypal and basic email to avoid any further confusion... on my part.
