  1. Thanks for posting this! I definitely need to take a copy with me out to the garage.
  2. I got some work done on the car, I think I figured out one of the biggest holdups I've had. The JPipe on my motor (the pipe from the Turbo to the Throttlebody) was mangled pretty bad, so much it wouldn't get a good seal on the throttlebody. Last night I cut about 4 inches out of it and bashed it with a rubber mallet for a while. I think I managed to get it where it will get a seat on the throttle body and still connect to the turbo. At least, hopefully a good enough seal the motor will run, after it runs the pipe will be tossed as it'll get replaced with an intercooler. After playing with the pipe for a while I finally got around to removing the wastegate cover, tonight I'll test fit the downpipe onto the turbo. Here are some photos from last night.
  3. I believe ya! I just freaked out at first not knowing anything Thanks again Ryan
  4. I wish I had done this while the motor was out of the car
  5. No I haven't tried that, though I can definitely attempt that tomorrow, from the looks it might actually fit. Good call
  6. All I'm looking for right now is a crappy cast iron one (that will fit my car ) so I can try to get the thing running for a bit. Once the car drives and lasts more than a few minutes, I'll be doing performance work. Intercooler, downpipe, etc, but also suspension work and the like.
  7. This is the info I was provided, so I guess based on what you've said is that it's a 300ZX turbo downpipe, which won't fit on my 280ZX turbo.... "Ill put it this way, I ran a T3 from a 300zx turbo and I only had the 300ZX downpipe. I was going to buy a 280zxt downpipe but I test fitted the unit and it fit great! I ended up going with a diff turbo so I changed that out obviously. A Nissan T3 is a Nissan T3 so it will definatly fit." So.... anyone have a downpipe that I can buy? I'm trying not to buy a nice expensive one until I know the motor runs, then I'll start buying expensive parts.
  8. I'm assuming you mean the downpipe, not the turbo itself or do I have that backwards?
  9. Can anyone tell me what kind of turbo and downpipe I have? I got this downpipe from another member who assured me it would fit up with what I thought was a stock 83 ZXT even though it was off a different Z, but from looking at the two pieces (See below), I don't see how they could fit together... ! = Is it possible my motor doesn't have a stock turbo? Or did I just get sent a downpipe that won't fit? Or am I just way off base here? Sorry I don't know enough to figure this out myself, I'm new to this turbo game.
  10. Dad and I got a bit done on the car this weekend. I've created two videos, one from Saturday, one from Sunday. Saturday: We ended up running around looking for more plugs for the intake manifold, ended up not having any luck at all with that. We also took some time and found more metal to use on the floorpan. After returning we fabricated a throttle linkage and then i decided it was time to actually see some resemblance of a car, so I partially assembled the front end with the new (new to me) air dam I picked up that afternoon. I spent most of the day welding, grinding, cussing, welding, grinding. And now I have a passenger floor pan without any holes in it! Alright, there are a few holes that are supposed to be there, and then there are a few holes that can be filled, but they are tiny compared to what I started with. 11. I'm hard at work on my project (73 240, 83 L28ET), though just barely getting into the MS phase now, we're getting there and I hope to start hooking things up, or at least attempting to, tomorrow (today really as it's almost 3am) Here's my wheel mounted, I had the pulley from my 78 motor (from the parts car) machined and the wheel put onto that section and then welded in place just for safe keeping. I have a long way to go, my father and I are trying to learn as much as we can about turbos, emissions, and all the like. He'd worked on cars for years, but never done too much motor work, and about all I've ever done was wrench on my 73 Superbeetle before I got into stock class autocrossing, so this project is a huge learning curve for the both of us. Matt at DIY hooked me up with everything so far, though I "still" need to send my stim back. I swear I'll do that on Monday Matt!
  12. Not much done on the car the past few days, spent a LOT of money though. My seats came in today, Corbeau A4, black/grey microsuede
  13. I spent some time this evening cleaning up the passenger floorboard. I have a LOT of welding to do there! I'm going to do some more welding practice tomorrow night after class. 14. Well, I've been blogging about my project for quite some time now, and actually posting videos somewhat frequently. I figured it was time to start a thread here to track future progress as well. For now you can check out all my older videos here. http://www.project240z.com/Videos/tabid/54/Default.aspx And all the old blog posts here. http://www.project240z.com/Blog/tabid/53/Default.aspx There are some pics up here, but I've been doing video more frequently than pictures for this project so far. http://www.project240z.com/Photos/tabid/55/Default.aspx Thoughts welcome!
  15. Looks good. I'm hoping to get my wheel/pulley put back on the motor next week and start trying to wire things up myself.
  16. Well I ended up ordering what I thought was one from autopartswarehouse . com but it ended up being off a non-turbo car.... I'm getting an RMA from them, they don't end up having anything for the turbo cars. If you still have one I'd like to buy one off you. I'll PM you as well Chris
  17. I'm in the process of doing an EDIS setup myself. I'm headed out of town tomorrow for a few days (Go Red Sox!) then I'll be back here in town hard at work trying to get my EDIS setup going with my MS I from DIY.
  18. So I'm hard at work on the Project240z.com car, learning a hell of a lot as I go along. I decided today to take off the stock air inlet pipe because it looked like there was a tear where it connects to the throttle body. Being that I've never had a L28ET before, or actually looked at one in person beyond the one sitting in my garage I have a question about how the pipe is supposed to mount? It didn't look all that secure before we took it off, but now that we have it off we really can't figure out how it is supposed to go on. It doesn't look like it will get a good seal on the TB, and I'm assuming that with a turbo system keeping that pressure would be key? Here are some photos. Before we took it off only one of these holes actually had a bolt in it into the intake manifold, should they both be lined up? It appears that would be so, but if we line those two up the pipe won't reach the TB. If anyone has any pictures of the stock pipe on their ride please let me know, also, if there is anything temporary you can think of let me know. Just trying to get the megasquirt and motor running, then I'll look into replacing the rail, intake, TB, turbo, and going with a IC setup. Sometime hopefully late spring/early summer. Thanks for your assistance.
  19. I believe I do need a stock one for now. My dad is going to check around town tomorrow to see what he can find. Rather than buying a high dollar one for now I'll try to find a stock one to use while I get things up and running. Thanks for your help, if I need to buy a pipe from you I'll try to shoot you a PM tomorrow.
  20. I would imagine that running with a DP would be a little safer than running without?
  21. So I've been looking around and not finding much for answers. Is my best bet for a downpipe to have one custom made? Any other quick options? I'm hoping to (but not likely) get to the point where I can try to start my motor this weekend, but I don't have any downpipe. Anyone know of anything I can purchase at a store for testing? Eventually I'll do something custom, but right now I'm just trying to get by and prove the motor works before I go too far into purchasing go fast bits. I've got an 83 l28et that I've already put into my 73 240, but still have a LOT (read all) of wiring to do for the Megasquirt before I can actually attempt to start the motor.
  22. I will be getting a fairly large sum of cash from a project here soon, but I really need to put that $$$ elsewhere.
  23. The problem with the 73 is the spacing on the firewall between the Clutch MC and the Brake Booster, on the 78 they two holes are 6" apart, on the 73 they're only 5" apart. We got it all hooked up last night.
  24. John, yes, I'm building an SM2 car, but in very slow steps. Once I get it running, then I'll work on future modifications. Suspension will most likely be next, then more power and better power delivery. Perhaps next for winter I can look at moving the motor a bit, for now I'm hoping to leave it in place and pray that it runs Thanks for the hears up though, I'll be in touch
