  1. You may very well be correct for all I know. I'm not the first owner so I don't know what if anything has been done. All I know is what I currently have and therefore need. It's probably something to look into one day, but maybe not since I don't entirely intend to keep it stock. regardless of what they traditionally came with and what may or may not be a subject of conversation, I need a 27 spline stub axle because someone at some point decided to play whack-a-mole with a sledgehammer.
  2. I'm not 100% sure what the early 260's normally came with but after counting mine about 37 times I'm fairly certain the one I need is a 27 spline.
  3. Yea the one I need is from the 260 and 280.
  4. As the title states, I'm looking for a 27 spline stub axle. I only need one. My car is an early 260z. Thank you in advance.
  5. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I can't seem to find a few (what should be) common parts for my L28et build. I'm either too late to the show when they're listed in the "for sale" section or the parts aren't functional. Aside from being in working condition, the overall condition does not matter. 1) Turbo oil pan. 2) Turbo exhaust manifold 3) Fuel rail (this one is debatable since I'm not completely sure what injectors I'm going to use.) A few other items I'd like to get my hands on that aren't really for the engine. 1) Front right fender (in reasonably good condition) 2) hood (in reasonably good condition) ~for these I'm also open to fiberglass and carbon fiber. I can't seem to find a good site~ My car is an early year 74 260z. I'm located in Clovis, NM 88101, and I would greatly appreciate photos. If it's easier to text, send me a PM and I'll send you my number. Thank you all again. Ben
  6. Electric power steering is amazing! I have in my new F-150 and I honestly never want to drive with hydraulic power steering again. Amazingly smooth and responsive and you get none of the steering shudder that you would with hydraulic. not to mention you have less strain on the engine, no power steering fluid to deal with and clears up your engine bay. I'm buying this without a doubt!
  7. Hey guys, I found this great looking classic Nismo steering wheel while I was browsing ebay. It's a little pricey for me, plus I figure there may be someone on here that has been looking for just this right touch. Here's the link: My link ***THIS IS NOT MY ITEM, I GAIN NOTHING FROM POSTING THIS*** Just thought I'd share what I came across. Ben
  8. Thanks, rags! Email sent.
  9. That would be great! I haven't had much luck looking for a used set that isn't already rebuilt. Thanks for the quick response and please keep me updated.
  10. I'm looking for a set of triple weber 40's with or with out the intake. I'd prefer them used but still in decent condition as I am looking to rebuild them myself. If you have a set or know anyone who's willing to part, please PM me. I'm willing to work with seller for price and shipping. Thanks
  11. Yes! I agree! Some CF door panels would be great! How about gauge pods for the pillar?
  12. Do you know what he was running? Is there a thread on here about him or a link that could be posted? Thank you! Even though it wasn't full of tech gibberish(which I do understand...somewhat) I appreciate an honest answer. You shared what you enjoy and gave a reason for it! Even if you couldn't tell much of a difference you still enjoy the triples. I know others have said what they have or would suggest but that's an honest experience. I still haven't entirely decided. I looked into that book and even though it clearly isn't meant for and L series, it also doesn't seem like it carries a lot of info. But thenagain, never judge a book by it's cover. I just bought a slew of books directly related to the Z car. How to Restore Your Datsun Z-Car , How to Rebuild Your Nissan/Datsun OHC Engine: Covers L-Series Engines 4-Cylinder 1968-1978, 6-Cylinder 1970-1984 and How to Modify Your Nissan/Datsun OHC Engine. They came highly recommended so I hope they'll be good. I'm not sure how I missed those up to this point, books are usually the first place I go. The scope has never changed, I just didn't word it as well as I could've. I'm still open to all options and doing research on the side, but this thread has given me a bit more insight into the personalities of these little cars. While not completely full of usefull information, triples seem to be a crowd favorite, properly tuned SU's are underestimated to the average joe and either route I go down, an aftermarket cam will be quite complimentary to the carbs(as if that wasn't already known). I'll definitly have to look into the blow through triples. Unless it's too much of a PITA... this is still just a goof around motor until I get an L-28 built.
  13. I've been leaning towards the the triple 40s as well, but I know a guy with a set of dual webbers that he's looking to get rid of. They'd need an obvious rebuild, but he's practically throwing them at me. What engine are do you have?
  14. I have never once negated the fact that competent tuning was going to be a step one guarantee. I also see that my "best bang for the buck" comment is still being taken out of context. I completely understand what you are saying, Tony. As much as it makes wince to say it, you are and have been correct throughout this post, although a few things written have raised my eyebrow, you still are correct. But even after all that is said and done, it is the personal experience that I am asking about. TB injection on a 4bbl intake, blow through turbo/holly or simply tuning the SU's that are on there. I'm asking about personal experiences from people who have done these modifications. OR in your case where the PO of your prior vehicle thought that throwing a pair of fuzzy dice on the mirror would knock a second off it's track time, but you realized that the engine was obviously lacking and decided to go back to it's stock form. Kudos to your brain! I am not and never have been looking for a magic bullet, just different possibilities if tuning alone doesn't make me happy with the engine's performance. Let me add another before you look too far into it. I realize that other upgrades, modifications and work will have to be done for an engine to properly perform if it is given a magic bullet make over. Thank you to those who have shared! @Leon~ What type of head work have you done and what kinds of gains have you seen using triples?
  15. Sorry about the double post. I'm not entirely sure what happened.
  16. @WEBEZEEed~ I that may be just what I'm looking for. My father and I used to do those kinds of modifications to his/our race cars. I was only about 15 at the time so I didn't really pay attention to some of the things, well... actually a lot of them. While I appreciate the work and attention to detail with your carbs, I feel the same principles could be applied with similar results. That being said, I'm not going to be a nincompoop and buy the biggest carbs I can. I must say I'm a little vain as well. If I'm putting my own time and money into something, I would like to look as good as it runs, vice versa, whether it be a nice tuck job, custom one-off intake, etc... Thanks again for heads up on the book. @TonyD~ It's obvious that you have 20, 30, 40 years more knowledge than I do, I have to say that while I think I get where you're coming from, you really contradicted yourself with a few points and really got away from the main topic. I'm glad that you got 147hp to the wheels with an EFI, but I'm asking about personal experiences with different carbs, which you did provide in the your first post. Another thing; I fully understand that competent TUNING is required, I never said I was going to put a Holley 850 double pumper onto a stock engine and come back later asking "Why doesn't this work?" It's actually rather rude that you would assume I was only looking for a "magic bullet",who do you think I am, JFK? I apologize for getting off topic and my original question still stands. What are your personal experiences with different carb setups?

  18. I also forgot to mention that, while I do live in Okinawa, I don't have much time left here and most of that will be given up to deployment related appointments and then a move once I get back.
  19. I just want to point out that I think you're looking a little too far into it. Since you are and you were nice enough to lend your expertise, I'll tell you exactly what I meant. "Best bang for the buck"~I've already purchesed a great running vehicle for well under what I had planned, but it is still stock under that bonnet(love the Aussies). I'm just looking for some ways to have more fun while the big boy(L-28) is under construction. "I don't care about the extra costs or how pointless it may be."~ It's pretty self explainitory if you ask me. I have money, little to no bills and don't want to see that beautiful, beautiful Z just sitting there. So I'm gonna pick an after market carb setup and maybe a cam, who knows, and have some fun. @rsicard~ Sorry, but I'm already doing the fuel injection. While I am curious about that setup, carbs are usually simpler, even if they are tempermental sometimes. Thanks anyway. @WEBEZEEed~ I actually do have a set of round tops. I will check into that book though. I guess I did kind of leave myself open for that sort of feedback. But I'm not looking to turn the stocker motor into a race engine. Just some fun little things I can do over a weekend.
  20. In the process of building my L28-et I plan on slapping on a new carb setup on my L26. I'm not going to go into details about the L28 by I'm looking for input on power gains on carburated L series. Any input on the different setups is welcome, eg: SU's, triple webers, 4 barrel conversions, etc. I'm looking for the biggest bang for my buck while I wait for the real power!! Also, please don't try to dissuade me from doing this. I don't care about the extra costs or how pointless it may be. I simply enjoy working on my car, plus if the L28 blows up down the road this could be a good back up. Thanks in advance for reading and commenting!
  21. Touche, Tony D! Even after all the time I've spent here it was my impression that the stock manifold was good until 350-450hp range. Which just so happens to be my desired goal. And I guess you'd consider old school JDM ricer? I know I don't have may pics, but that's the overall look I'm trying to achieve, with of course some modest new age upgrades. I'm a fabricator at heart so I love to play with metal and see what my limits are. You mind parting ways with the name of this guy? I don't have much time left before I'm off to the sandbox...again Thanks again for all the info, guys!
  22. @RB26Powered~ I realize it's a fairly broad question. I wasn't to worried about exact details, just personal experiences. I've known people who swear by headers and some who strongly believe that it drastically changes the performance just because the tubes on a header are longer compared to the ports/chambers on a manifold. @Lonestar~ Thanks for the input. It is a different engine, but the dynamics should be similar enough too consider the info. I'm not terribly worried about finding a header for sale. I used to be a welder before I joined the military and it's like riding a bike in my opinion. I have some rough plans floating around in my head, hopefully they'll find their way to paper soon though. I'm also going to fab my own intake since I'd like to run a throttle body in 60-80mm range. I'm also strange and like to push my limits with projects like that. I've gotten a lot of great info on custom intakes from browsing around on here. If I feel less adventurous at the time I may end up just modifying a Greddy RB plenum and fitting it to the L series flange. We'll see, I've got nothing but time right now.
  23. Now I know there's some info on here regarding this, but patience is limited when you're tired and you're eye's are sore from staring at a screen for hours. Here's the question. It's common knowledge that a stock turbo exhaust manifold is great for moderate power ratings, to bad they're ugly. If I were to use a turbo header with a twin scroll turbo would my engine be noticeably effected by turbo lag? I understand the variables involved with the turbo size, header length and size. I'm looking for personal opinion rather than technical advice. Thanks guys!
  24. @gogriz~You must not have driven offbase too much, lol. A majority of the locals here are horrible drivers, but I'm not saying the Americans are any better by any means. That nismofest does sound like something right up my alley. Do you remember any dates for the events? After Kadena I'm pretty set and ready to go back to the states for a while. I love Japan, but this base is so screwed up on so many levels. JDM has definitely made an impact on my as well. @lonestar~I had to check out those GTX30's!! I think I found my turbo and my parts list is getting closer to being complete! Do you know what block/head you're running? I know that I've considered doing the RB swap, but not only do I love the sound of my L(even if it is only an NA L26)more than the RB, but it seems to be more hassle than it's worth and not as fun either. Those RB's have power on tap without having to really do much. The L's require a little more TLC and seems to be almost as reliable under pressure. We'll see though, I still have about a year before I get to play with my toy again.
  25. I'm new to the Z world and must ask the stupid question of the day. Will this process work on the early 74 260? I know there aren't too many radical changes throughout the early years, but this is a great walk through with an extra goody(adjustable sway bar). Kudos and hopefully my nievity will disappear with experience.
