  1. Had it mounted for a little while i used thin pieces of aluminum flat material that i fiberglass to the under side of the dash to where the orginal z mounts were. It was pretty solid, but i took it out because it wasnt black and i needed the correct center console. If i find a mint black one i will do it again, but i have to find the rhd console first.

  2. I used a rustoleum matallic color and went to town on the prep work mines looked as if it were painted with a gun. But with other colors and brands the actual cap on them sprays in a circle pattern. The cans i had sprayed in a vertical (up and down) direction which gave better spray pattern. It also depends how close you are, temperture, and how well you mixed the paint. As for getting all the streaks i just let it dry a while the did more coats till i couldnt see any more. If its black your spraying good luck i learned my lesson never again will i try it. Hope that made any sense at all.

  3. I was going to use a target switch for the day time. But the outside light should be enough to let you peer through the tint. If you use light tint to let you see into the guages I used 5% which is wayy to dark im going to swap it out for 35 or so.Id just wire it to a 12+ source key on position. And leave it that way. I have to order some real strong leds first radio shack dosnt have anything close to what i need.

  4. Okay i dont have the best of pics and they are not installed in the z nor did i have any extra leds. But here are pics of what i did.

Take a flat tip screw driver and pry back the case. Pull the trim off along with the glass ring and the glass itself. Tint the glass with your selection of tint. I used 5% might be to dark for the led i'm using or i can just use 3 of them. Put it back together i used the flat tip again with a piece of clotch around the tip and pushed down all around the gauge.

  5. My first DIY.

I really like the look of the defi and autometer nexus gauges alot, but for the price not so much. So i was playing around with a broken water temp gauge and some cheapo walmart window tint. I had laying around and i cracked open the gauge spilled its guts and got the glass face and started to go to work. I applied the tint 5% to the glass put it all back together and hooked up a 12v rc charger to a 15kmcd green led stuck it in the light whole and whamo i got the style i was looking for. i can post pics tomorrow if anyone is interested. I need another led i burned it out i forgot to put the resistor back in when i tried it a second time. Also i need to find a way to keep the led in there. thinking of just using pcb board and glue it to the back of the gauge idk yet i have to think about it.

  6. Same thing happened to me with my l24. Driving down backroads in tracy to bring my dad a spare tire because he had a blowout. Out of no where i hear this ticking then the ticking turned into clacking look at my oil pressure guage. So im thinking well if its going to die then its going to die right. I pushed that l24 till it wouldn't take any more and put a rod out the block. 3 days later i bought a 280zx fairlady and put in the l28 and five speed. Been my daily ever since.

  7. Today i went to the yard with my dad and what is that lurking behind the gate. A ever so elusive subaru svx complete 144k miles. So we got busy and stripped the interior and i got some polk audio 6.1/2 (great speakers) 8 bux each. Total for many many interior parts deck lid and the large brake light was 182$ so i said i'd pay for it all as a early xmas gift. Also going back tomorrow to get the glass and it had drilled, slotted, and vented rotors which are 9.99 each there. Going to use those as back ups he already has them on his svx.

Is my luck changing or is it setting me up for something bad. IDK but i hope it continues and nothing bad happens.

-Im in oakland right now but i started the build in stockton so i guess it is kinda fate even though at any point i can put in a 396.

-This is the smaller version but its still worth the buy

-Thanks, and about the socks :weird:

  8. I go on craiglist to find some wheels for my z and i get distracted and come across a ad for holset hx40 turbos. I called him up and he has 3 of them priced where id buy all 3. So any way i drove to tracy to pick them up he said he sold 1 so i bought the other 2 and now im not gunna dump the 7mgte swap project in my 240z.

Both are 8 blade holset hx40's they have zero shaft play and spin free. 4in exhaust vband flange. Blades are good might not look good in pics but they are. I believe i got a once in a life time deal on these babies. Say there bad if you want. There mine!

  9. 2,500 for a dash swap??. I got my crack free dash for 30bux. Spent a few hours trimming and fitting and BAM it's in there like swim wear. Got the center console fitted it and screwed it down. I changed it back to stock because i couldn't find a black one that was crack free so until then i'm keeping it stock. Mabey when my 7mgte or 396 goes in i will find one and do it again.
