  1. Looks decent, except the option combinations are pretty bad. Only the base model gets the 6 speed, with 3 color limitation: white, silver, black. Only black and silver get black interior. SE model gets several more colors, like blue, which is only available with beige interior (really?) and no 6 speed manual.

Beige interior is ugly as hell.

But what do you expect for 20k?.... Going to have to make some sacrifices?

  2. Let's use the flow chart method:

Is Jetta or Audi a VW? If Yes, abort. If not, notify manufacturer that someone else has infringed their copyright on the trademark name

Genesis Coupe base price is 22k msrp, and it's 2.0 turbo. It fills all spots except 4 door and comfortable seating. it also lacks in the trunk department. It's really not that big of a deal except that lot of people are complaining about transmission issues with them. it is also the first make/year of the car, so I don't think I want to opt to be a guinea pig. Warranty is nice, however, at 5/60 and 10/100k for power train.

Also, I had already narrowed down my choice, which is why I listed them. I was looking for people's input on what to choose out of the ones in the initial post. Wasn't asking for Focii, Jetta, Fit suggestions.

You didn't make it too clear that you were asking about the cars you listed. I think that's why we all have been naming cars other than what you initially posted.

In that case, go Mazda 3s. They have been getting good reviews (from what I remember).

Not a fan of the new Honda's. Good reliable cars w/good MPG but ugly as hell IMO.

  3. No VW? Audi A4? They are pretty quick and get 30+mpg. Jetta TDI? BMW 330i? Decently fast. I have a 530I and get 30+mpg, 260HP ~$20K.

All the fun cars are 2 door. The Hyundai Genesis sounds pretty awesome for the price. $20K for a 1.8L turbo. 30mpg and a good warranty. They claim it fits adults in the back seats comfortably.

  4. I am looking for an American manufacture for my classics headlight. I also need another sample to be created. I don't have access to the one that's been made already. I have the autocad for what goes inside the light but not for the 7" round housing.

PM me if you think you have the background for one of these projects :)

  5. I don't understand how people think a lens will focus (not magnify btw) light and yet a reflector will not. Its simple physics on both accounts. A reflector is perfectly capable of directing the light in a safe pattern as we have already demonstated in our pictures and as physics experiments have proven long long ago. It must, however, be properly designed and there are a lot of reflectors that are not suitable because of their beam pattern, etc, just as a projector lens must be properly designed for the same reasons. I just don't want there to be any misconception about reflectors providing a safe beam pattern but be aware that there are many that are not suitable. Personally I would tend to stay away from the cheaper plastic lens/reflector however someone may find one that is suitable so I'm not writing them off either.

I understand what you are saying about spending money and getting quality but that only applies in certain situations. The whole HybridZ community is centered around the fact that the Z car is easily modifiable to get very good performance at a fraction of the price of other vehicles and modifications. Spending more money on a product doesn't automatically give you a better product. That's why its important to weigh the data and find out what the best bang for the buck is.

My bad, I did jump the gun on the reflection comment. You can have good light spread using reflective housings but I believe that the optimum/ideal housing would be in a projector. I just believe that there are ALOT of housings that have not been designed to provide a safe light output.

Spending more money does not automatically give you a better product but many times it does. I don't put cheap speakers in my car bc they will blow quickly. I put better quality speakers in which may be more expensive than the cheapies but not necessarily tons more money.

Best bang for your buck is the way!

  6. These may be cheap kits, but I couldn't disagree more with your 'you get what you pay for' statement. So if he paid $200 for this same kit, would it be better? Paying more doesn't always mean your getting something better.

I deal a lot of music instruments (especially violin bows). The difference in quality between a $5 bow and a $10 bow is extraordinary. I used to buy the cheapy bows that lasted a few months then tried out the $10 bows and for $5 more you get MUCH better quality wood, hair, and handle that makes a huge difference. So for paying a little more, I get a much better quality.

This is all up for interpretation. But most of the time in a normal (a.k.a. you are not getting screwed) transaction, the more value you put in, the more you get in return. If you buy a new car, are they going to give you the sport, premium, luxury packages for free? No you have to pay for them and those are the things that make your car better.

    Off topic lol

Aw ok, was not sure if they were good or not, so which seem to be the best in terms of use with the xenon kits? Also one thing a lot of places don't make clear is if BiXenon means that its low and high beams.... could someone clear this up?

HID kits should only be used in housings that use true projectors. That housing you posted is just a H6024 housing with a fake projector lens that does not do anything. A projector magnifies the light straight onto the road while that housing uses a reflective system which is hard to control the light spread (and you can blind people). With REAL projectors you can control the focus of the light (light spread).

Here is an interesting video on retrofit HIDs.

    Bi-xenon= high/low

  7. I got a deluxe kit for my s130. SUPER easy to install took me a day. Also got the combo lock kit. Everything works great.

The plug on the door fits pretty much flush for me. Don't even notice it (black interior).

  8.

I also agree with Fric Frac that calling out Chinese made items as "crap" to be highly offensive and unfair. I work in the Retail Industry and most of my suppliers are in China. I have seen and tested products that are made from China, Germany, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, US, Canada, Brazil and India and no matter where it came from, they were either good or bad. Bad because some manufacturers cut corners on material and process or hire poor help which in term produces very poorly made items. China has great products. It's the manufacturers that decide to cut so much on cost that are to blame. And if you were Chinese, wouldn't you take offense that products made from your country being called "cheap and unreliable"? I'm not Chinese by the way, just expressing my opinion on the matter.

Very well put. (I am part Taiwanese ) so I am a bit bias.

I am glad there are lots of people here with experience. I just wanted to shed some light on it. Most people haven't really dealt with other countries and are used to buying items off the shelf.

It's a shame how the small percentage of manufactures that do cut corners can hurt the reputation for the rest of them.

All in all... good thread tangent

  9. There is a common misconception that Made in China = junk. Yes there is lots of junk made there but a lot of the stuff you buy if its not completely made there the guts or components are. That includes stuff made in Japan/Germany/USA, etc. Like it or not China is the World's manufacture - that's what they've set themselves up to do. When you have something made in China the person building the product chooses what level of quality they want to pay for so most choose cheap over quality because that's what the consumer demands. It has nothing to do with "made in China" but what the designer/distributor want's to pay. It wasn't too long ago that everything that came from Japan was absolute garbage. Now if you want to have a high quality part machined you send it to Germany and if its of the highest quality it goes to Japan to be manufactured.

So while price doesn't determine quality it does point you in the general area.... however there are bargins to be found and at $90 it shouldn't keep anyone from missing a mortgage payment ;)

I understand. What I am trying to say that right off the bat they are making a claim which is unethical and a lie. From my experience... once I see or sniff out a lie, I AUTOMATICALLY move to the next company. The last thing I want to do is deal with anyone that isn't honest. China is absolutely the worlds #1 manufacture. I deal with roughly 60 manufactures from China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan each year and import 15-20 40 foot containers annually into the states.

A product with components from Japan or Germany and is assembled in China still cannot say Made in Japan/Germany.

If you have never dealt with Chinese manufactures then you guys have the slightest idea of the shi* they pull and say to earn a buck. No joke.

Sorry if I am being harsh. It's an unspoken truth.

  10. In fact many HID Kits have a label "Made in Japan/Germany" are all made by our factory.

This is the only line that REALLY concerns me. I deal with this customs stuff all the time and it is actually very very very very very illegal to say MADE IN JAPAN/GERMANY when in fact it is made in China. If you guys can walk away with one thing, its that some (not all) Chinese companies will do and say anything for your $$. This could be a very reputable company with good stuff. But the "made in Japan/Germany" claim makes me VERY concerned.

I would ask who they OEM for. Look up the brands and lights and see what people say about them before you purchase them. Better safe then sorry.

  11. Dang $86.99 for digital slims and bixenon is a pretty good deal. Make sure they aren't made in china. Their cheap ballasts and bulbs are TERRIBLE.

If anyone is interested in retrofitting, I have some hq H4 projectors. Nicely cut patterns and the high/low mechanism is built into the projector (no need for the bulb to actually move and change focus). PM me if you have any questions. $140 shipped. I have one set right now and should have some in stock by the end of the month.

  12.

Again these are "just" high quality HID's in a quality H4 housing. Don't get me wrong - I don't have anything against projectors - I love how they look. I just don't want people to think that a reflector is inferior to a projector. The problem with a projector is that they are difficult/expensive to get and for me the best performance for the $$ was the H4 lens. There are tons of different ones and if you get yours locally if it doesn't work for you then you can take it back and try a different style. I would stay away from the cheap plastic lens/plastic reflector as they are typically cheaply made and poorly designed. I like where you are going on your posted thread because its hard to find a good projector if there isn't anything available at the local wreaking yard can be difficult. Its also hard to replicate something that someone else has done. Personally I'm looking to build a custom headlight for a friend's 240Z with projectors and a custom headlight bucket but finding parts are challenging. Keep up the good work on this front - I'm watching to see what happens with this.

Until someone like Bens1088 can provide the end user with a quality product its difficult to reproduce some of the HID setups. This setup is easily reproduced and you know what you are paying, what you are getting out of it and the benefits that comes along with switching to HID.

I apologize for the criticism before. Your lights have a great cutoff. I still think projectors are the way to go to get the "newest" tech into our old cars. My projectors have a flap that drop down to show the brights. This is the best solution without buying bi-xenon HIDs (which = more $$).

Let me know if you need some HQ projectors for your build. Good quality projectors are ridiculously overpriced. I will be also importing projectors by themselves. Check out my forum for pics.

Usually when we hear the words H4 and HID in the same sentence, we automatically assume they are shi*ty ebay lights.

    Great job!
