  1. This is what I've done to my civic and street bike. The refracted light isn't too bad on my civic because they are pointed pretty low. Its not too bad for on coming traffic. But I feel like I've spent so much time and money into my Z, I my as well do the real conversion and get projector housings. Someone wanna make a lot of money? Come up with a decently priced projector H4 housing. I actually have hook-ups in China...group buy anyone? lol

  2. well with those I just swapped the bulbs. On the z, the bulb... is the whole headlight. I also want to convert to projectors. With the other conversions they were just plug and play. From what I've read, I should rewire the headlight harness, but what entails rewiring the harness?

Also I'm trying to figure out what projectors work and what I need to buy.

  3. I am looking at doing an HID conversion. I've done probably 5 or 6 of these to regular cars. The 280zx has H4 lights right?... When I looked it up it came out H6 on the Sylvania site??

There is no relatively cheap projector housing and I do not want to use those suppper cheap H4 "projector" housings that glare like crazy.

Now wouldn't something like this work if you fabbed it into the housing and then put a cover on it?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HALO-ANGEL-EYE-PROJECTOR-4-FOG-LIGHTS-FOGLIGHT-7-COLOR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a1Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3911Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem300281570492QQitemZ300281570492QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Also people keep speaking of a wiring harness upgrade. I've searched and cant find a good clear explanation on it. Is it a must for HIDs? I have the sylvania xtravisions on there but they aren't bright at all and I don't like them.

    Thanks

  4. keep the z. i had a poor condition 280zx when i was 16. put about 10k into her over 5 years. looks good and runs good. craigslist, ebay & pick and pulls is where you save money.

1st step... buy a shop manual. Learn about your car. Start small. Fix simple things, lights, plugs, oil changes, then move on to larger work.

  5. The interior pics didn't come out right (cellphone) I'll get some up tomorrow if its sunny.

My dad bought this car new in 79. Sat in the drive way for close to 9 years. Fixed her up through high school. The last step is the engine. I want to pull the engine and rebuild her. Keep it NA and shoot for ~200HP at the crank. (trying to be realistic)

I wish I would have documented and taken pictures of everything along the way. But it feels good to be somewhat... complete.

(keep in mind i am 19, go to school full time and work almost full time)

Advice or suggestions on anything at all?

  6. No.

a 79 CA model had a cat, and your chassis is identical to the 79 CA chassis.

so i typed up a whole paragraph and accidentally hit the back button.

Isn't the chassis NOT identical if this was a different version?

basically in 79 there was a 49 state version and a ND version. If i sold my engine, the person who bought it wouldn't have to put a cat on right?

Also thats like saying if I brought a 49 state car into california, did a swap with a 49 state model, I would have to swap all the emissions parts on the car to the california version standard.

That doesn't make sense to me...

Sorry if these questions are dumb, I really dont understand CA smog laws and everytime i talk to a smog tech i get different answers. One said i could bolt on a turbo and pass it, but he might of said HE would pass it lol.

    Thanks Tony

  7. I have a 79 280zx which originally came from North Dakota. At that time, the 79 zx was the only car that did not need a cat. So right now I have straight pipes to a muffler and its legal for me here in CA. I am looking to do a swap now, but what are my options? Either turboing the stock engine with low boost? Swapping an entire turbo engine?

Basically are there any loop holes that will allow me to not have to get the swap certified and such that anyone knows of thats still "smog-able"?

    Thanks

  8. Just redid my gauges with the free overlays I had printed at a shop. Still painting the needles red. Also, picked up a steering wheel today with a hub for $20.

I'm thinking of doing the LED upgrade for the gauge lights. Any thoughts? I want a blue background.

  9. recoving a steering wheel? I have a momo wheel that has the leather torn at the top. The whole thing needs to be redone. I've heard of a place in Florida that you send it to and they redo them for pretty cheap and they do a good job.

Any ideas? My interior guy said its about 3 hours of labor and its cheaper to buy a new wheel if I have him do it. He couldn't find the name of the place in FL.

    Thanks

  10.

Oh and the best part is, since they are both stock, they are fully retractable...

    Any pictures of your setup??

I just bought some Schroth harnesses on ebay so I just need to figure out how to mount it. What is the opinion for those universal harness bars?
