I saw 3 240SXs in the wrecking yard this week. All 3 had IRS, 2 had finned rear covers on the differential. Are they R200? Do they often have VLSD diffs? For every Maxima there must be 5 Sentras in the yards. Prowling the Yards in Central VA Mark

Lads, I was at the wrecking yard yesterday and looked at (4) RWD Maximas. All had the welded-on rear brake brackets, but I thought I'd post the build dates in case somebody is compiling a database, we can approximate the cross-over date. The cars I saw were: 11/82 , 12/83 , 5/84 , 6/84. Anybody know what size nut is on the end of the stub axle? Just in case I find a bolted one..... Well, I also was looking at vented rotors with 4x4.5 bolt circles, and spotted two Nissan Stanzas with potential, thinking they can be used on the rear. One was a 4WD with 9.40" dia. x 1.125 thick with 1.85 backset and 2.625" centerbore. The other was FWD with 10.25" dia x .75" thick with 1.125" backset. I did notice on several FWD Maximas ('85- up?) that the rear caliper bracket is basically a flat piece of steel with no step to inset the caliper. It bolts to an early Maxima ('81-'84) caliper, so I am assuming it also bolts to the good ('82-'83) ZX Caliper. The coolest thing is, with no rear axle they are a breeze to remove!! Terry, Did you use a BOSS 302 intake manifold to put those 351C-2bbl heads on a 302? Wow look at all the Virginia folks on this Forum Bryan Jamie .....

Another possibility for rear vented rear disc rotors are from the '81-82 Toyota Cressida. I don't know the diameter. These have a pretty deep hat because they drum-type parking brake is inside the hat. They have 4 x 4.5" lug bolt circle.

Sometimes wheels aren't advertised for Datsun...but...Here are some other cars that used the 4 x 4.5" wheel bolt circle: 60-73 Ford 6-cyl Mustang, Falcon, Maverick 58-80 MGA, MGB, MGC Dodge (Mitsubishi) Colt, Arrow, Sapporro Most Mazda RWD Most Toyota RWD, except pickups

You don't want a SBC 400 for a 70-78 Z. the 400 Chev is externally balanced. The larger diameter (than a 283/305/327/350) flywheel places the starter motor too far out and it will interfere with the TC rod mount. The larger diameter harmonic balancer will interfere with the steering rack.

At the wrecking ard today, noticed that 87 Mazda RX-7 Had 4 wheel disk brakes, vented rotors all around, and 4-piston (Aluminum?) calipers up front. Has anyone tried putting these on a Z? The mounting lugs are about 6.25" OC, the rotor was about 5/8" thick, So I figure they would work on '84 300ZX Rotors
